- The Chariot totally killin it in Nashville, TN. The guys were super chill about letting me film backstage and on stage and it made for a kick ass video to be sure. And what's this crazy style? Oh I dunno. Maybe a throwback to old school cinema!
Song is: a rough recording of "Dragon" by Angela Plake. Probably the most beautiful song I've heard in a while. Check out her band BANDIT: www.facebook.co...
Watch in 1080p if your connection allows for it. Really. You're missing out on a lot if you don't see it full res.
SHOT ENTIRELY AT ISO 25,600 - I wanted it to feel as real as possible - raw, honest and visceral. No noise reduction. The experience of being at a Chariot show - which is crazy, btw - is the real story here. For you guys who have seen them play, do you think it accomplishes that?
More interesting camera junk: at such high ISOs you get this curious effect where the camera starts "creating" light where none existed in the first place, or at least not that our eyes can see. A lot of these shots were in more or less pitch black darkness, and especially interesting is the one of Angela at 1:30 which was shot at f/1.4 and ISO 25,600 - which in terms of raw sensitivity to light - is faaaaar more sensitive than the human eye. And it made for an absolutely stunning shot.
This would have not been possible had I been worrying about my noise and sticking it out at ISO 640 or some nonesense. Actually this entire video would be completely underexposed and not even exist.
Case in point: Use what settings and tools are necessary to tell your story.
NERDS:
Camera: 5D mkII
Lens: Canon 17-40L and vintage Zuiko 50mm f/1.4 (originally purchased by my dad in the 70's)
Grip: Manfrotto 561BHDV-1, hands
Misc.: SmallHD DP4 monitor for some shots
I'm going to miss them so much.
watched this video so many times, absolutely stunning.
I was at this show. And this video does the show completely justice. Amazing.
beautiful
me too, it's absolutely beautiful
I love her voice.
Me too!!! This lineup is pretty killer indeed.
That was the best live video, I've seen in a really long time.
i need to see them live again soon.
Incredible video
oh my god, that shit is stunning. good choice with the song, the slow song makes this thing ten times better than it already is. epic!
also with this beautiful video
This video gives me chills. Top notch my friend. I now want to get into film.
Shooting at the ISO you did gave what this video needed. You did a great job rocking your art. If you had been worried about Noise you wouldn't have caught the emotion that needed to be there. Shows that sometimes we can be too anal about that sort of stuff that we miss out on capturing what needs to be captured.
Really Beautiful video!
I think it would be like to watch a videoclip with this quality
(salute from brazil)
thank you much!!
Woop! Can't wait man!
awesome!
Dude! I love this video. So artistic. This is like a dream video for me...damn, wish I had made this...
I have watched this video.... probably 25 times, between just me enjoying it and sharing it with friends. Now that i have seen actually seen The Chariot live, I have a new appreciation for it. It totally captures the energy of their show. Great work man.
Thanks Jennifer! really means a lot.
This is really cool - nicely done.
DUDE MAD PROPS! this is eye candy
This is so moving. Moving like the moment I realized the power of this band. I really fell in love with THE CHARIOT a few months ago. ONE WING picked me up every morning in a really bad time of my life where frustration and darkness seem to devour everything. It still gives me power and confidence to carry on like no other record before. This vid looks and sounds like the love I´m feeling for THE CHARIOT. Thanx! Excuse my bad english. I´m out of training I guess:)
I just want to say, I am a professional concert photographer, and this is by far one of the most beautiful creations I have EVER seen, I could watch this 100 times and not be bored of it, Bravo Sir... Bravo!
Thank you my man!!! :D Just wait until your video comes out.....
right?? That kid was so perfect. Whoever you are, thank you kid.
Derek, watching this makes me increasingly excited that you're making the farewell documentary. This is so good.
is he really? O_O
I'm seriously crying like mad right now. I can't believe the Chariot is done. They mean so much to me, and they've done so much for me. This video is just SO perfect with the song being so eloquent, and the video encompassing their performances so nicely. I am greatful to have been able to see these guys live before it all ended. LONG LIVE THE CHARIOT.
Angela should be releasing something soon. I added a link to her up in the description!!
I miss The The Chariot.
Again, All's Well that Ends Well. - Oct. 2019
you're wonderful
i was hoping you were going to cut a video of the chariot playing. that soft melodic music going into one of there songs would've sounded awesome and would've made for a good juxtaposition.
Song and footage match perfectly!
Derek you're the absolute best out there. Your videography blows my mind, keep it going man.
Dang I'm gonna miss these guys, more than any band I've heard before
awesome vid mate :)
im about to break my track pad from how many times im going to click this like button
That is amazing to hear my man. Thank you thank you thank you.
Hahahah awesome!! Thanks, I'm stoked it got you into them. Bandit is amazing
SUCH a good video, that bit at the end with the high-fives, when your hand reaches out... awesome.
Dang, thank you dude! That is awesome. Glad you got to see them. They are truly one of the best live shows I've EVER experienced (and I've seen loaaaads of bands). Thanks for watching!
this video is so fucking good! I hope this line up sticks, too bad Wolf left but I feel like THIS IS The Chariot.
I know it's been said before, but I'm gonna miss this band. One of the best bands out there.
Hit up Angela!! Link to her band BANDIT is in the description now!
I used to drive 160 miles off bummed gas money to see Luti-Kriss. RIP NXT GEN Performance Hall.
I know what was missing from this performance! KC :(
Thanks dude, that really means a lot! I'm so glad you're going to get to see them - they are incredible live. I'll be with them for part of the tour filming a full-length documentary, which is the least that I can do for this incredible band.
Me too man :'( I still can't really wrap my head around what is happening right now.
thanks Martyn!!! I appreciate the support..... and there's more where that came from :)
The look on the kid's face at 3:33 says it all.
Thank you so much! I appreciate that. Haha you're the first person to notice it's actually in slow motion! It's so slight that most people don't notice. The method I used is this: I shot the whole thing at 30p and then simply interpreted the footage down to 24p. Then twixtor for like, two shots. Since there's no sync sound it's all good.
[Lyrics]
We can wait, remember.
Mournful eyes, return.
Many have been drawn away
With promises of joy.
Even as you speak the name, separation.
Oh, even as you speak the name, speculation, oh.
It's burrowing in now
To places you never imagined [x4]
Oh-oh
Hoo ooh, hoo ooh.
1:12 i'm in love
Aw, thanks Kayla! That means a lot. It's not quite over yet, though. Still one more tour and I'll definitely be there to film it so we can always remember how awesome they are. :)
Thanks Joost!! I appreciate that immensely :) You're pretty much spot on with that. We wanted the whole thing to be about contrast - and not just the light and dark tones in the image - but also Angela's beautiful voice against the insanity of being at a Chariot show. It creates this beautiful, somehow haunting feeling I think.
Love this video, love this band. (: But do any of you know where I can get this song?
I want lyrics and chords!
Dang man that's awesome :) It's fantastic knowing that my work is inspiring other people to create. Keep an eye out cause I'll be uploading some sweet tutorial videos soon as well.
Me too homie :'( That's why I keep making videos we can all remember them by
Darn. Make sure to get some footage from the Atlanta and Douglasville shows if you can.
...is that the Deertick drummer in the middle at :47?
where can I get this song???
what frame rate was this shot at, and if not true slow motion, what frame interpolation method did you use, it looks fantastic
where can you find the song and lyrics?
did nashville forgive them?
i don't get it
@@amasterofbation they have a song ‘’forgive me nashville’’ and this live show was filmed in nashville
@@andrew777spencer i know. i just wanted to see if you'd actually respond
POETIC
