And more seriously, just how the modern American songbook connects back to the classic American songbook and to the mountains and the British Isles before that.

These guys are funny but also really damn good musicians. The older group were great also. The harmony is spot on. I hope people know how good these good ol boys really are. Dang!

Oh man...if it's the same SW movie I'm thinking of, you ain't wrong......it was absolutely pitiful....horrible, pathetic, trying for some kind of feminist girl power I suppose...but failed badly....
Other than Digger I have seen quite a few other members of the "trio", but damn! They all can play and sing and make complementary noises. Most of the commentary and comedy is left to Digger, this is just the most overall entertaining group of ever-changing bunch.
People stop being so sensitive....that is what comedy does...it takes people out of their comfort zone....to think out of the box. It's not meant to hurt....but to make things less likely to be discussed..... to the forefront of discussion in a creative and funny way. If you can't laugh at life....you have no soul. I'm an African American female....and I absolutely love them. I grew up listening to blue grass, rock, r&b, hip hop, classical...etc. If you can't appreciate music from all genres....you're an inbred, and need to come out from under that rock!
Wow Digger actually “bust a move” awesome. I’d like to know but maybe not, how can people hear the incredible music you guys put out, non better, and yet people sit perfectly still. 😊
I stopped in there in 2009. Nice place. Saw some talented players. I think they were students. That first song cracked me up. I thought they were just going to spit tobacco. They were pretty entertaining
Pat G Palmer 8:39 AM (1 minute ago) RUclips kept showing me this group til I finally took a listen, only to notice that the atrociously strong accent is dead on for West Tennessee where I grew up. The comedy ranges gross to subtle, and not always politically correct, and the musicianship while not as tight as one might like in places, is full of affectionate parody of the bluegrass style (especially those elided vocal endings). I probably won't be buying their albums, but this did amuse me for an afternoon and it might you also. Plus, it's proof that anything can be bluegrassed. I especially enjoyed the bass player's silly, exaggerated rap moves. I also liked the parody of the old, classical bluegrass performance style, which is still popular in TN, which is, that performers STAND STILL when they play. That stillness forms part of the tension of the performance, in stark contrast to the speed and intensity of the music itself. Whereas modern, non-Southern performers don't hesitate to spring around the stage like crickets. And last of all, those polyester suits!
These guys are pretty much my hope for the future of the planet at this point- they may not actually be the stereotypical down home Arkansas characters they portray on stage, but they all clearly love and appreciate the rural “red state” bluegrass tradition that they are following, as well as the coastal “blue state” woke culture most of their song choices come from, while at the same time seeing and making fun of the numerous foibles of both. I think it was Longfellow who said that “music is the universal language of mankind”. The US clearly needs a better way to communicate across the political divide at this point, and the world needs the US to get back to being the responsible and respected leader and arbiter of global disputes which we have come to rely on.
@@elizabethtrivette5640 They aren’t actually a family from Arkansas, if that’s what you’re asking. The guitar player/frontman was a standup comedian at one point, and the patter and family anecdotes are a Schtick which follows the family band theme. They are, IMHO, though, a group of very talented and inventive musicians with eclectic tastes and a cultural frame of reference which isn’t limited to one side of the other of the current political divide in the US. If you’re asking whether overeducated country boy bluegrass fans who comment on you tube videos in long-winded academese, and who appreciate quirky humour and banjo players who use vocoders for solos a la Peter Frampton are for real, I guess I am, anyway. Some of the other commenters might be bots, though......
