      I definitely agree! There is something special about these stock vintage sportsters, The sound and feel of the low end torque they put out and the rawness of it. It’s a beast!       Thank you for your comment, I really appreciate it. It’s the original black paint scheme that this bike was born with from the factory in 1968. In fact I am doing a multi part series regarding this particular paint scheme and other old Sportster paint projects as well.     I loved those old Sportsters back in the sixties. Didn't finally buy one until 2002. With that 74 ci motor that was a real nice bike.

      55 cubic inch up till the 1971. 74 cubic inches is only possible with stroke and aftermarket cylinders which were rare even back then

    Nice XLCH, I have the same exact one 1968 Original 12K on it bone factory stock in black. These are raw muscle bikes that will transport you back in time! And you better remember to fully retard that manual magneto or you will pay a big price with a massive kickback. A man’s bike for sure!

      Those kickbacks are lethal, I saw a fully grown hard ass of a man, like 6'6" and crazy muscles, go down HARD after an old iron head Shovel kicked back on his chin .....

      @@case_ku Yes I know the feeling, when I first bought my XLCH I forgot to retard the magneto, the engine momentarily started then suddenly died with my foot still down on the kicker. Then I suffered what is known as a full power stroke kickback! The big granddaddy of all kickbacks. I NEVER in my life got hit so violently and with such brute force. It’s like a very big strong guy hitting the bottom of your bare foot with a baseball bat as hard as he can! I literally almost threw up from the sheer pain. It took me 9 months to heal my shattered foot. I am 200 lb. Stocky built guy and it took me out but good! I am back to kicking it again, but much more mindful of correct starting procedure.

    Beautiful Restoration on I’m assuming a 68 XLCH as I owned a 68 XLH Electric Start only back in the day . Fun Bikes ,take note in 1968 the shifter was still on the Right Side . 👍

      Actually this 1968 XLCH is all original and not a restoration. I am doing a historic freshen up on this time capsule. I don’t know if you watched the whole video but I showed the original copper air filter it still has and it still has the original factory Harley Davidson spark plugs in place. I hope you subscribe and follow along as I continue on this bike and turn it loose down historic Route 66 this summer. I have a 197O XLH as well that will be featured on later videos. Yes, this right hand shift sure takes some muscle memory when switching from my newer Harley.

    That might be a 1968 motorcycle, but that cam cover is a one year only 1970 cam cover

      Not so, that ribbed cam cover started in 1968 to 1970. I know because I had a new one in 1968 and still do own one along with a 1970.

    ------------------------- 900cc lean , clean , stock ..... no argument the motor company produced better products , more value for consumer's buck back in the day ....today company is too misaligned diversified, attempting to capture different markets they have no business in......
