I prefer homemaker because it reminds me of the coziness of a loving and cherished household. Not to mention, all the labor a woman puts in helps to make the house into a "home".

I personally know many stay at home mums who are not homemakers- they spend most of their day gathered at each others houses (they live in my parent's apartmenr block) gossiping about men, celebrities, shopping and other stuff. Managing/keeping their homes and/or attending to their children when they get home from school isn’t on their list of priorities. This is why I draw a distinction. 'Housewife' is often thought of negatively in our day and age as a woman who stays at home lazy all day while her husband works- even though that's not necessarily always the case. In my opinion, only 'homemaker' truly emphasises what the woman's priority is.

Homemaking is a creative act imo, an art. So a homemaker is a person who intentionally and mindfully works at managing the environment of their home. A housewife is a wife that doesn't work, whether she has kids or not and a stay-at-home mom is exactly that. A mom who stays at home. The bigger issue than these terms is the lack of honesty amongst "influencers", particularly on YT & Tiktok who preach the housewife lifestyle. You are not a housewife if you're grifting online and racking up sponsorships, doing talks, book deals etc. You're a work-at-home mom. And there's nothing wrong with that. But these influencers do a huge disservice to their audience by not being transparent about how their lifestyle is funded.

I know actually what you mean! It can come off confusing! If I can clarify - a homemaker/housewife can * earn * money, but it's all how she maintains her priorities. Earning extra money and doing hobbies, sponsorships and volunteering should be the last priority per her wifely role. Her husband, children (if applicable), and homemaking should come first, in that order, and whatever is left can be pursued last. 👍 In our modern day culture most priorities are shifted or backwards. 🥴
I do agree - sponsorships, book deals, online business, etc shouldn't be her main priority. I hope this makes sense!
I'd love to talk more about this topic too! 😊 Thanks for sharing! 👍

I agree as these women on youtube can make others think they are wrong if they work and that they should give up working in all forms and be a homemaker. When in fact they are content creators and earn money from their content ect. They are not different from other working from home mums. I work from home part time, flexibly around the children and homeschool. I put my family first like most women and cook all meals, look after my husband and the children but I am a working from home mum just like all these youtube homemakers. Stop trying to sell a lie to us. Get real

I prefer homemaker or keeper of the home if I’m in certain Christian circles that know what that means. My dad calls me a housewife and I’m okay with that. A wife isn’t called to keep her home only if there are little kids at home.
