      Or a similar outdoor activity. I feel that video games partially fulfill our need for exploration, but they fulfill the need enough for us to be lazy and not go out and explore the world. Video games also have a lot of focus on improving and leveling up your character, but players will neglect to "level up" themselves in real life.
      ...or maybe I'm just making excuses for being a lazy ass, but that's my theory. I've played games all my life and have no drive to exercise or get out into the world.

    as a former American “civil war” reenactor we called that “experimental history”. By attempting to recreate a past job or craft or even the life as a soldier would help us interpret history & give a better impression to the general public, who frankly doesn’t know a damn thing about history as you can see by what is going on in the world today!

    • @geirarnehelland7271
      @geirarnehelland7271 4 года назад +1

      @Joe Black Nope. We haven't been "vikings" for a thousand years. It's just a game of pretend, with symbols of old given new meaning. It's an escape, mostly from one self. We know very little about viking culture, their mindset and morale. We can assume from written sources several hundred years later and archeological evidence, but we don't know them. It would have been far more realistic for contemporary norwegians to build a timberhut, grow turnips and pray to God, like we have done for the last thousand of years. Dressing up in viking gear and wielding an axe does not make you a viking. I take great pride in my norse ancestors and their culture, but I am not them. The line between pride and parody is very thin if you try to be someone you are not. Some cultures have very short timelines back to their roots, but it seems they also has to reinvent themselves for today to emphasize what makes their culture special. We can for example see that tendency with the Sami people in Norway, where the similarities are toned down to bring out the difference between the cultures, and the exclusivity of the Sami culture. Living in the past won't get you into the future. What is important is what you can learn from the past that is relevant in the modern society.

    Yayyyyy... when my family came to America from Denmark, they were asked to settle a land. My grandmother grew up in this particular place and they became very close and good friends with the natives indigenous people. We all actually went to school together... anyway, my husband and I are returning to that particular Scandinavian settled land to build a few cabins and live there. My oldest son is going to come with and build his own home and we will all build another for my daughter, her spouse and their 2 precious daughters. We are all martial artists - weapon trained, we also are all trained in archery- the silent killer, guns of all sorts if we have to resort to that, we are also very crafty and clever. We make our own furniture, rugs, pottery, art, etc. We have iron pans that have been passed down to us from generation to generation. It is a very peaceful, safe and happy feeling. I know what you mean when you say, I can not stop smiling. I will send you an email with pictures when we get set up.
    Best regards.

      I tried to comment myself and taxes. It keeps getting jerked down.
      Its about 9 million in my state. It's about them paying taxes at 20 a day.
      It also writes about a tool shop price to military at 100 plus a tool. It then shows the national budget scheme. They keep taking it down. As a old talk was to use 10tax style a day for Commonwealth to people.

    • @margaretneanover3385
      @margaretneanover3385 4 года назад

      I seem to put a balance bill and others on the spot. They see I put facts to figures. If the pursuit of Commonwealth is the facts. Here is the other way. It was 9million saved 10 bucks a day to mass collect. Then in one day it's 90 mill.
      5 days it's 450 mill.
      One year of 26 weeks it's 11 billion 700 million. One state one idea. They talked and raised tax. But kept the budget balanced to their way.

    • @margaretneanover3385
      @margaretneanover3385 4 года назад

      If the tool shop shut down was by the elect...it served Mexico and Australia. They were given 100 plus a tool. Then the budget was okay. But to fix the close ..a wall was paid ..a balance act . now my posts are down when I write. Wow. Fact checkers no.

    • @margaretneanover3385
      @margaretneanover3385 4 года назад

      Correct me but is 9 million 10 percent of 90 million? Then 900 million is 100 percent of 1 million 9 million times. So we all could be ok financially. Well the mockery likes my math hidden. Because it shows some real truth about big or small government too. Balancing lies are no fun..they use such a playbook. They charge or pay when they buy. They must balance to evidence it in writing. They are not Sophie's choice. Some unaware. Boy

    Smoke always tend to flow up on a surface that's warmer (normally air is cooler than body temperature), so a trick is to put a high stone on the side of the fire where the smoke finds its path. it creates a "quarter chimney effect" and you'll get less in your face. I knew this effect as everyone does, I am always the one who has the smoke in my eyes, so one day i started to research it ^_^

    When they ask "Why are you dressing up as a Viking?" Your answer is "Because I am a Viking!" I knew two, one was a wild English hippy type who played banjo, wild blonde hair and beard, nick name Scrumpy. I fancy he was a wild viking raider in a previous life. The other was a red haired Scot, played just the best Scottish dance music on piano accordion, did all the Scottish balls and such (and shared his tunes with me) and he was a gentleman, a Viking king no doubt. Love your camp and equipment, keeps the past alive. What you do is called creative anachronism. Greetings from Australia.

    Congratulations!!!! So happy for you. You're radiating pure joy! Rarely see it in adults. After paying off our farm in the mountains, I made my husband walk outside with me in our bare feet. He thought I was crazy, but did it anyway. Just something about walking in bare feet on YOUR land.......idk what it is, but it's a pure blissful, euphoric feeling! That feeling doesn't go away, and now I catch my husband outside in bare feet all the time. lol If you haven't tried it, you should. ;-)

    In doing my family tree, I found out on my fathers side I come from Scottish heritage, but I knew that. What I found out was that my family tree extends to Vikings that settled in Scotland. Since finding that out, I wanted to visit, explore where my ancestors came from, and the Culture. With the travel restrictions, I can't, so I love your videos, as it's the closest thing I have to being there for now. Thanks for doing them, and exploring Viking history, it touches people from all over the globe. And, it 1 positive thing in a world of negative, and that's extremely important.

    For the first 6 months I was in constant wonder at what I now had; my own place, my piece of the Earth that was now given to me to do with as I pleased, to do the things I had always dreamed of doing. I gift from God.

    I just read the first Jomsviking translated to Swedish, and it struck me almost immediately that the book wasn't written by drawing ideas out of ones ass on how the people did it back then. It was clear that the author i.e. Bjørn knew what he was talking about when he explained the characters and how they move, travel etc. Just the explanation of the Dane axe in the book, on how it was used, and how he forged one to himself to us, really drew me into the story. Anyone claiming that Bjørn is just "larping" a Viking is delusional. All the hands on experience translates well into the book and I'm sure into the other books as well. Cannot wait for the next book to be translated into Swedish.
    Looking at the back ground in this video, the name that immediately strikes me as suiting is Fólkvangr.

      That is so true. I am 71 and haven't worn pants in ca. 30 years I wear longish skirts and usually a hat matching, etc. I am "me" and behave accordingly. I ignore those who give me a hard time, but gladly explain things to those earnestly seeking knowledge. I adore the Scots when they were their kilt as a matter of course, or my native Bavarian men in their various Lederhosen, Capes, and hats.

    Why not name your land "WALDENHEIM" after Walden Pond and Henry David Thoreau. “I went to the woods because I wished to live deliberately, to front only the essential facts of life, and see if I could not learn what it had to teach, and not, when I came to die, discover that I had not lived. I did not wish to live what was not life, living is so dear; nor did I wish to practice resignation, unless it was quite necessary. I wanted to live deep and suck out all the marrow of life, to live so sturdily and Spartan-like as to put to rout all that was not life, to cut a broad swath and shave close, to drive life into a corner, and reduce it to its lowest terms...” Walden, or Life In The Woods by Henry David Thoreau
