The finest modern example of baroque opera currently out there. Absolutely stunning, all baroque operas should have similar sets, performances, costumes, and ballet techniques.
Condivido confermo anch'io con lei
Quels musiciens, quelle mise en scène !
Tout est parfait. Un pur plaisir.
Magnificent! Such a pleasure to see a period reenactment of Rameau’s Hippolyte et Aricie. Opera is so often reimagined and “modernised” that it is startling to see it as it was originally performed. I wish they would try this at Bayreuth!
Oh oui excellente remarque !
Stephane Degout is out of this world. His voice is spectacular in all registers. This is his best performance I've ever watched.
I totally agree, Stephane Dégout from far is the best Thésée ever
It's so cool to see an opera that actually looks similar to how it would have looked when it was first performed in 1733! It's sad it's so rare to see... Thank you so much for sharing!
Does anyone know of more operas on youtube with that historically authentic look?
I hate modern shit i agree
@@Brunetto46 I hate traditional "look". "Look" is a lie. None of us was present at that time. The word "look" is treacherous. It suggests that there is only an external quality, which - once imitated - leads us to build a bridge to former times and ways of telling stories. The only way to reach the internal and original feelings and meanings of old operas is to adapt them to our today's creativity to find out what they mean to us. Gustav Mahler said: "What you theatre people call your tradition is your convenience and sloppiness." He was right! And it is adaptable to our way of reading and interpreting and staging operas.
@@johannesblum7474 I want to watch a LOTR movie like the book not a 2080 anno version modernized if you get my point..
@@Brunetto46 I'm sorry I don't get your point. Literature is an epic genre, theatre is drama. A fundamental difference. A book is written only one time, an adaption of a novel by filming has nothing to do with the permanent challenge of re-inventing the drama text. That's going on since more than 2000 years. Theatre is experienced by a public who is united under the item "tua res agitur", that means that theatre tells your story, today, under political view, contemporary. And this has nothing to do with "look" or your own "taste". I am tasting a soup but I'm not tasting theatre or opera.
watch the ATYS opera by jean baptiste lully, it has beautiful costumes and staging
Sublime ...
Thank you so much for uploading. I was searching for this for quite some time. I was there to see this opera in Paris, back in 2012. Best opera production I’ve seen till this day.
Absolutely agree
Trio des Parques 1:24:30
I am a big opera fan and this production is fantastic. This is the way it should be staged, not this modernizing of operas. When you modernize an opera you take away from the singing and the music. In my eyes, then you destroy the opera. Everyone involved in this opera can be very proud. Also I must say, the singing and acting was outstanding. I enjoyed this immensely. Thank you so much for uploading this.
Did you watch the same staging I did? I thought the staging was full of modern ideas. Those costumes, for example, are highly stylized, and it's hard to imagine that they looked exactly like this 300 to 400 years ago. Try not to overlook how many artistic decisions by modern people with modern imaginations went into this (excellent) production.

Condivido confermo
At long last, a staging enhancing, worthy of, and doing full justice the distinction, gravity and elevation to be found in Rameau's musical genius. Here is a tour de force.
What a beauty all this! Thank you!

Very poor sound quality !!👎
