I can still hear the bell - motorcycle passion regardless of age

  • My connection to motorcycling never was based of the age of the rider on the bike but rather with what they do with the bike. Apparently most viewers feel once a rider gets to a certain age what they do with the bike isn't as importance as their age.

Maybe to some of the younger riders, we’ve become irrelevant because we don’t ride like they do. We’ve grown up!! It’s the same with so many things in our life. Music, cars, and even attitudes are different with age and experience. The bell still rings for me!

RUclips content from any one individual naturally will appeal only to those who have an interest in the topic. There will be age groupings within viewer demographics so, certainly one cannot command the interest of all. What's important, especially as we age is that we have a passion for something...anything. Incentive and purpose to "keep pushing on." Your channel displays that passion in spades. Thanks.

The world has 100 year old jumping out of airplanes and other fun stuff like that. 80 something year olds driving/riding at Bonneville. Age is a number. How old/young you are is a mindset constrained only by your interests and the physical health to participate. Fun is youth. Keep having fun and stay young. I like to say I'm "Trans-geriatric". I"m a 22 year old trapped in a 67 year old body. Oh yeah ... I still hear the bell.

Ahh, am glad you made the vid from my comment mate. Yup, I really wasn't being rude, and certainly not aimed at any individuals.
My comment was in relation to who watches videos on the RUclipss, and your analytics proved my point completely, my analytics are similar, although my audience has a slightly younger spread, most are still 35+ with the majority being older than me.
As a flip side of the coin, I find most 20 year olds content on RUclips irrelevent to me. As we get older we have different outlooks, we want different things, sometimes more practical things, others more expensive as older people tend, (although not in all situations) to have a bit more money (and insurance is cheaper etc).
Older folk are not irrelevent and neither are younger folk, but a 20 year old is generally going to want to watch content from people in a similar demographic to them, same with a 60 year old, they are generally going to watch content made by people closer to their demographic.... except for the creepy ones who just want to watch young women not wearing much on the internet.

No worries I didn't take as a personal shot. It was something that got me thinking about the whole subject. I'm a little disappointed that we as riders allow age to separate us as much as it apparently does. You made a good point and an accurate one from what I can see. Thanks👍👍

@@flatcapcaferacer Away from the internet, I am sure a 20yr old biker would happily chat with a 60yr old biker at a biker cafe and vice versa, but on the internet, where our time is spent off the bikes, our searches will be for similar people to ourselves, in the same way most younger people go to night clubs while the older folk go to the pubs and quieter bars.

Hello Jerry, Very interesting. I certainly don't think age should be a concern. You can achieve anything at any age, only restriction for certaing passtimes is physical fitness, as you get older takes longer to heal those scrapes and tumbles, so you have to just reduce the risks down a bit. I have also find that my channel has very similar age profile, something I have never even thought about untill I saw this video. Keep doing what you love and have a passion for. Cheers

I think there is a fall off in the younger generations with respect to both riding and driving. I see less interest in general. I couldn't wait to get my license when I was young and started riding motorcycles at the age of 5. I've been riding MCs for longer than most of the people on RUclips have been alive. I do think the proliferation of ebikes that are quasi-motorcycles may help drive an interest in motorcycling.
Well, that is my hope anyway. I am still relevant at my age based on the people I interact with when riding. I raced for many years and still enjoy it from time to time. I still have some ultra-quick sportbikes, and I just sold my turbo Busa but kept my H2. I grew up learning how to tune 2-strokes and how to ride right shift bikes as well. I always find it interesting to engage newer riders to help them understand how we got here from where we were. We all should be ambassadors of riding and get more people involved. I feel riders are a dwindling number and we need to attract more people to the sport!
    Keep up the vids!

@@flatcapcaferacer Thank you. We definitely need more riders in the sport. All the rider aids sure help new riders learn and some decent automatic transmission options definitely help like the DCT from Honda. Also of these things also make it easier to go faster than your skill would typically allow. I don't want to sound like a Luddite but I missed the days of honing my skill at the track with no wheelie control and no type of track mode or traction control (TC).
It took some serious balls to take a modded GPZ 750 turbo, with no wheelie bars and no TC and build enough boost of the line to actually spin the tire instead of that terrible middle ground. That is where you gave it more than enough to bog, not enough to spin, and ended up with such a giant wheelie off the line that your anus puckers up like you just ate the tartest lemon in the world. Thirty launches later, and you were then able to adjust for a hot day, cold day or pretty much anything in between. I generally don't miss those days, but sometimes I do. Those were the days when skill could be a massive equalizer and overcome a significant power deficit. I think they invented roll-on racing for those who could learn to launch.
Anyway, count me as a subscriber.

@@wavshrdr8452 I never rode a bike with a turbo, although my buddy has a Honda CX650 turbo I might get a ride on but it's not a Kawasaki GPZ 750 turbo. I've won a few drag races when the youngsters turn off the traction control especially on stock wheel base bikes.
Last August when I crashed the Rocket 3 at Bonneville and I broke my left elbow and had some damage to my left hand. I'm going to give the Z900RS a go at the drag strip in September. Hopefully my left hand won't let me down.

I'm 65 and I make content. I have also been producing a podcast for the last 9 years and it is one of the longest running motorcycle podcasts out there. So ask me if I care if a 20 year old watches my videos or listens to my podcast. I don't. I do it because I have fun doing it and I enjoy the process. If someone finds what I do interesting and watches.... great. If no one finds it "relevant".... who gives a f**k. Don't watch it then. I don't do what I do and no content creator should make content to appeal to a certain demographic. Do it for the passion of it and if people want to go along for the ride, they are welcome. Let's face it kids, none of us are 25 or 30 year-old attractive blonde's on a motorcycle, if we were, we'd all have over 100K subscribers.

Be interesting to compare your age demographic chart with the age demographic chart of those who ride motorcycles as I doubt they'd be very different. This may offer an alternative take, i.e. if most riders are older then most riding content viewers are going to be the same.

Is this demographic perhaps due to the general trend away from respect for ones elders, which is prevalent in this modern age ? Surely there's still much to be gained by learning from the experiences of the likes of yourself, rather than taking the attitude of " I think I know it all" and " I'll do it my way". Certainly within the young it's all about bravado, the risks, the thrills and the dangers of living life at full throttle. So why do they not see this is still relevant in a person of older age, who's still tearing up the drag strip or searing across the salt ? Of coarse we must also consider the age demographic of those who ride motorcycles, the majority being in the middle to older age brackets.
