This was a very useful and deep exposition into irreducible oneness ( Tawheed) and the compass of the inner consciousness ( Fitra ) being the epicentre avenue to Truth (al Haq)
Firas needs to make his own philosophical series on RUclips. With his own channel like Vsauce or the school of life, or have philosophical podcasts like Joe Rogan.
This is one of the most brilliant talks out in the internet right now. Firas is incredible! Thank you again for another brilliant video Paul, as always 🙏

@Danuta Grakowski LA ILAHA IL ALLAH. If you knew the difference between ilah and Allah you would hang you had in shame from the embarrassment of your comment. That's why we have books or at least google.
@Danuta Grakowski So you didn't bother to look up the difference between ilah and Allah and correct yourself. If you are a christian or hindu, well those two religions are idolatrous. I assume then you must be a jew if you don't worship idols.
@Danuta Grakowski the illah the shahad mean idols or god with a lower case and Allah actually would translate to "The God" the one and only God, illah meaning you are negating literally every false idol not just physcial idols but the idols of te mind meaning attachments that you hold so dearly that are of worldy matters and other things like praising a celebrity hardcore fanboy. minor form of shirk is still a shirk meaning you should never be too attached too something and for atheists it is the belife that nothing gets produced into something naturally or by randomness which is deity they are projecting in their mind. this is why illah is their it starts with negating all false gods.
Thank you, Paul. Enlightening and thought-provoking. Makes me reexamine the wondrous centrality and gift of our fitra - which becomes the inner eye to know the One Reality, and the Seen/UnSeen world. I was familiar with Al-Ghazali's understandings of Surah An-Nur, and appreciate Firas' insights about these verses. I remember my young 4yr. old son asking me one day. '"When I was a concept in Allah's Mind, what were you doing?' He simply wanted to know what my life was like without him, but you can imagine my astonishment at the wording of his question. I had told him that he had been with Allah before he was sent to me. And he, being a creative child who loved to draw and make things with his hands, innately understood that Allah too had created him from an idea in His Mind. The beauty of the fitra!

This interview has become my favorite so far. May Allah reward you brother Paul. Mashallah Firas is a beast intellectual. Beautiful & impressive. I'd like to make some comments on a few things Faris talked about for better understanding. As to deductive facts vs inductive facts vs historical facts, what Faris proposed is actually antithetical to the understanding in our Islamic tradition. That is, according to our tradition, the sources of knowledge are three: 1. Aqli = Deductive = Reason (a priori), to grasp deductive knowledge, that is concepts in your mind. 2. Adi = Inductive = Senses (a posteriori), to grasp inductive knowledge, that is experiences with your senses. 3. Naqli = Reportative = Khabar = Account, to grasp historical or reported knowledge, that is events removed in time &/or place from you. Also, according to Islamic logic the levels of Judgement (Ahkam) are four: 1. Qatyi = Certainty (100% truth value) 2. Dhanni = Likelihood (close to 100% or 0%) 3. Shakki = Doubt (close 50%) 4. Wahmi = Delusion (not enough information to make any judgement). Certainty (or uncertainty) can be achieved in all three types of knowledge, deductively, inductively or historically. Particularly: 1. Deductive facts: deductive conclusions are not always necessarily themselves certainly true, rather it is the structure that is true. For instance, probabilistic truths are deductively acquired, yet may have a truth value less than 100%. Although, true premisses will, deductively, always engender true conclusions, hence certainty. 2. Inductive facts: one can achieve inductive certainty even if there is a deductive (metaphysical or epistemological) possibility of the opposite. For instance, we all know for a *fact* that the sun will rise from the East tomorrow, & we all know for a fact things fall down. Science, as conceptual explanations for observable facts, can never be certain, only granting more or less likelihood - thus the measure of margin of error between the explanations & the facts, called accuracy. One can never achieve perfect accuracy for one can never know all the facts. 3. Reportative facts (aka historical facts): contrary to what Faris said, one can also achieve certainty in reportative facts. We all know for a *fact* that China exists even though we've never been to China. We all know for a fact Hitler existed even though we've never met him. That is through Tawatur: congruence of sensory testimonies from a great number of sources, such that it is inconceivable they could have all conspired to tell the same lie, at each level throughout the chain of transmission. That is also how we know the beloved Prophet (pbuh) is a true messenger of God, how we know his miracles in fact happened & how we know the Quran is perfectly preserved. As to Newton & his postulate about force engendering motion. These ideas are not his, but are actually postualted by Muslim scholars prior to himself. The true credit goes to Biruni who deduced gravity in free fall & calculated it to be proportional to the distance of the object from the center of the Earth, & to Abu Barakat who inferred that a body is in uniform motion under zero sum force & accelerates proportionally to the force he is subjected to. As to Abraham (pbuh) & the stars. The story is actually an argument provided by Abraham against his people (in Balylon) who worshiped the triune God Shamash, Sin, & Ishtar (Sun, Moon & Venus). At the end he says "la uhibbu alafileen" - "I don't regard things that change", for God must be unchanging. As to Berkeley & Idealism. Again, this is not Berkeley's invention, the credit goes to the Ash'ari school of thought, then very prevalent in Europe. In fact, George Berkeley coming from Dublin Society & Trinity College, is part of the largest collection of Arabic manuscripts in Europe then, collected by the fellow Marsh. As to Allah is beyond Logic. One must make a distinction. Allah, Himself, is indeed non-contingent, & that includes Logic & all things. However, Allah as in our belief in Him, is obviously contingent on Reason, else we'd believe in the impossible or the nonsensical. As to Descartes, him too was but a mere vassal of Islamic sciences & philosophy. Comparing Descartes & his primitive ideas with the much more sophisticated Muslim theologians & philosophers is abusive, no matter how big he is made to be. I've read both, it's a shameful comparison. That also explains his ontological tendencies (also common among contemporaries), which the Muslim theologians abhor, for ontological arguments & circular. This level of sophistication will indeed reach Europe by the end of the 19th century. As to the Innate comprehension of the Law of non-Contradiction. According to Islamic Logic, there are 7 types of necessary knowledge, aka a priori or natural knowledge, such that you know it without proof or effort: 1. Awali = Primary, that is to know that a thing is itself, which is the same things as to know that a thing & its opposite do not concur (aka the law of non-contradiction) 2. Badihi = Evidential, that is to infer deductive conclusion from premises. For instance, if you know what 'size' is & know what 'bigger' is, you immediately know that the whole is bigger than the part. In other words, to perceive universals from particulars. 3. Fitri = Instinctive, that is to know there is a reason why things are, i.e. causality. 4. Hissi = Sensory, that is to know what you see (or other senses) to be as you see it. 5. Wijdani = Emotional, that is know what you feel is indeed the case. 6. Tajribi = Empirical, that is to know what you experience to be indeed the case, that is there is a granted uniformity of nature. 7. Hadsi = Intuitive, that is to have an extraordinary level of understanding of things virtually impossible to grasp. (Imam Ghazali adds an 8th, which is Tawaturi, but it has been prove that this is not the case). In our tradition, all these are born our of Fitrah (that is Reason), to seek Allah (swt), so that we may know Him through Revelation. Reason is the path to seek God, while Revelation is the way to know Him. Ibn Taymyah actually goes against the consensus in this issue. Allah (swt) says: "we created you you don't know a thing", & the Prophet (pbuh) said: "man is born in Fitrah that he may chose to believe or disbelieve upon adulthood". Fitrah is indeed tabula rasa, in terms of particular knowledge, but not in terms of the a priori knowledge in the 7 categories mentioned above. We are indeed created in Fitrah to seek Allah swt, then once we find Him, revelation tells us who He is. The Awali (primary) knowledge within us, to know that a thing is itself, it is to ultimately tell us that a necessary being is also itself, different from all contingent beings. The Badihi (evidential) knowledge with us that allow us to infer universals from particulars, which is to unify the many into one concept, to make one, that is Tawhid. The Fitri knowledge within us to expect reasons for all things we see, it is there to expect the ultimate reason for all things, the primal cause of all things, that is Allah... & so on. In short, our innate disposition (Fitrah) ultimately lead us to God, but our Reason can never tell us what God is, hence the necessity of Revelation. As to Hume's idealistic ideas, same as his teacher Berkeley & the others, they are all students of the Ash'ari school of thought, the mainstream Islamic school of the time (& still). Though Hume compared to his Muslim counterparts shows that such comparison is nonsensical. David's Hume's most famous work (Enquiry) is 50k words long, in 12 chapters, some 4k words each. Each of the topics tacked by Hume were, for instance, tackled by Fakhr Razi in 100 times the amount, at the very least. Fakhr Razi wrote over 100 books between philosophical & theological topics (& many more in many other fields, such as medicine, law, mathematics, physics, history, astronomy, legal theory, politics, tafsir & so on), many of them span more than a million words each (such as Matalib Alia) or even two million words (such as Sharh Shifa or Mahsul)... As to God being the literal Truth & else being metaphorical Truth. This probably makes a lot more sense in Arabic. It is better to say God is the truly existent & all else are only apparently existent. This topic needs a lot of background understanding & elaboration, else we may fall into a lot of misunderstanding, so I'll skip it. As to whether Philosophy is Haram. Well, believing philosophical truths which contradict authentic & clear scripture is indeed haram, & practicing philosophy for that purpose is equally haram. Beyond that, it's a practice like any other, thus may be prohibited, discouraged, permissible, encouraged or even obligatory depending on the circumstances. That is the mainstream position in the tradition. As to secret of secrets. This is a Sufi concept, referring to the depth of our Self, that is, the first layer of the Self is the body (jasad), then the life (hayat, animal soul), then the soul (ruh, divine soul), then the secret (sir, reflection of the Tablet), then the secret of secrets, which is Tawhid. As to Evolution. Evolutionists love to equivocate terms to advance their agenda. Evolution = biodiversity by natural selection & random mutation. If it's not that, it's not Evolution. Not every thing that changes & moves is "evolving" in evolutionary terms. Polar bears & brown bears are interfertile, that is they can interbreed, just like a White eskimo human & a Black subsaharan human. Galapagos finches also can all interbreed. They are the same species in the strict sense. Evolutionists love to tweak the meaning of species to make it sound like there is actual speciation. There is none. In fact, all butterflies, all 170 thousand "species" of them can indeed interbreed & produce offspring, just like all 6000 of human ethnicities can.
Here are some key philosophical insights from the conversation: - Truth can be understood in different ways, such as analytical truths (math), contingent truths (science), and historical truths (unverifiable accounts of the past). However, intuition is the "mother of all truths" as it gives direct experiential knowledge. - Intuition provides innate, self-evident knowledge of fundamental truths like the law of non-contradiction. It is a "religious experience" of truth that underlies all rationality and cannot be logically proven. - Fiqh (intuition) gives knowledge of Allah's existence. It is a god-given faculty and the "natural religion" mentioned in the Quran. The fitrah points to Allah as the only objective truth, while everything else is partly metaphor. - Allah is singular and literal, not an archetype or concept. His existence as the one objective reality is known directly through intuition, not reasoning or science. The latter depend on unprovable assumptions. - Atheists and materialists cannot consistently apply skepticism about reason, consciousness, the external world etc. Their worldview has blind faith in many unfounded presuppositions. - The Quran constantly reminds us to use intuition and reflection, not just the intellect or senses, to arrive at religious truths. This leads to certainty in Allah, not doubt due to science or philosophy. In summary, intuition and reflections on the fitrah provide direct inner knowledge of Allah and religious truths, which underlies all reasoning and science. The Quran points toward developing this intuitive faculty.

I love the timestamp re Firas' daughter! That was cool.

Jazakallaho khair
3 hours wrestling training then 2.5 hours intellectual explanation. This is peak human performance. Nice philosophical talk. Very clear and concise unlike most popular modern 'philosophers'.
Exactly! Imagine Sam Harris discussing it. What FZ said in 20 mins would've taken SH 4 sessions to do (Pangburn Philosophy).
@@ZuluZoro legit you are not wrong I think the way firaz is able to boil down so many complex topics into simple thought experiments is absolutely genius and saves so much time
@@ZuluZoro sam harris is a fraud. No true philosopher would take him seriously
How does he do it?
2:01:06 literally made me cry.
We keep forgetting that even our eye blinking occurs by the will and mercy of Allah.
That was one of the most profound thing that I ever heard
Yes.. absolutely true..there is no will but the Will of Allah Almighty Only.
Every single ion / atom , at rest or moving, is by the Will of Allah Only.
The planets , the Universe, etc humans are made up of atoms.
Allah's Amazing Grace.
Nothing happens unless Allah willeth. Allah is our Protector and unto Him do we put our absolute trust.

You have no idea how much of a resource this channel has been to me. And to think it's all for free... Can only say jazakhallahu khayr Paul! 🙏🏿❤ Barakallahu feek!
You are very welcome!
@@BloggingTheology I like the sound of 1 million paul 2.0 as firas mentions 😅
Not only brother Firas is a respected MMA instructor but also a gifted thinker. Absolutely loved the discussion 😊 merci Paul et Firas, je vous admire beaucoup.
Dude, listening to Firas is always such a freaking pleasure. He is such a deep thinker, an excellent philosopher, and so eloquently spoken. Thank you for sharing!
Couldn't agree more!
@@BloggingTheology Not super familiar with your channel, but after listening to this discussion, I'd love for you to get Bernardo Kastrup on the show! He is an Idealist, has his own school of Idealism called Analytical Idealism, is a non-dualist, and his takedowns of Materialism are absolutely incredible.
This was a very useful and deep exposition into irreducible oneness ( Tawheed) and the compass of the inner consciousness ( Fitra ) being the epicentre avenue to Truth (al Haq)
👍
Well put!
The real thing I have learnt from this lecture & what I seek to adopt is spend 2-5hrs of study per day. Firas has showed me that it's possible.
الصَّلٰوةَ
Firas is an absolute legend, what a collab thanks Paul.
Firas needs to make his own philosophical series on RUclips. With his own channel like Vsauce or the school of life, or have philosophical podcasts like Joe Rogan.
100% agree
Firas Zahabi Destroys Atheist Stephen Fry! The False Atheist God! | Jordan Peterson | Firas Zahabi | : ruclips.net/video/9lJURzjRPU4/видео.html .
i think he said somewhere once that he would be making a philosophy channel once he retires from mma iirc

He has a podcast
I'm only 15 minutes into this video and mind is already blown..SubhanAllah
No doubt in my mind that Allah will repay you greatly Paul for your effort , both in this life time and the next.
This is one of the most brilliant talks out in the internet right now. Firas is incredible! Thank you again for another brilliant video Paul, as always 🙏
Glad you enjoyed it!
@@BloggingTheology Absolutely loved it and most importantly learned a tremendous amount. Jazakallah khairin ❤️❤️
Firas is an exceptional guest. His breakdown of epistemological nuances and the clarity in his delivery of the subject matter was top class. This episode was so good I had to listen to it twice to really take a grasp of what was being said. Once again br Paul, thank you for the content and may Allah reward your efforts. ❤️👌🏽
This is at least the fifth time I am watching this and insha'Allah not the last time.
Such a long discussion but I was glued to it. I never get tired of Firas talking philosophy! Thanks a lot Paul for having such great discussion, you steered it beautifully!
Thank you Paul for all what you're doing for science, truth and Islam
I must thank you and Firas for this wonderful discussion. Learned quite a lot and I hope you continue to have more discussions with him in the future! JAK
Thank you brothers really….. you made me practice my religion more ❤️
Barakallahufeek
Paul, I regret thinking about not watching this video based on the title thinking its going to be boring. When i watched it I found it fascinating! It would have been the first video of yours I would have missed. Boy, i wouldnt have known it but i would have missed one of the most fascinating of discourses on your channel. Ive promised myself never to make that mistake again.
Salemualauikum, I feel the knowledge enter the top of my head and the anxiety leave through my temples ,when I hear and read articulation of the truth by these learned and "men of understanding " who express my feeling as a Muslim . Alhamdulillah and thank you Br Paul for your effort and may Allah reward all insha'Allah from Ireland.

well said. same here
Mashallah Brother Zahabi is very well read and articulate, while also being highly capable physically. An amazing representative of our Deen
Firas Zahabi is such a good teacher, he explains the topics so simple that it is easy to understand. May Allah bless you both for this podcast.
Amazing conversation, loved each and every second of it. May Allah reward you both. Coach Firas is on some different level. And thank you brother Paul for bringing him on BT.
Glad you enjoyed it
@Danuta Grakowski LA ILAHA IL ALLAH. If you knew the difference between ilah and Allah you would hang you had in shame from the embarrassment of your comment. That's why we have books or at least google.
@Danuta Grakowski
So you didn't bother to look up the difference between ilah and Allah and correct yourself. If you are a christian or hindu, well those two religions are idolatrous. I assume then you must be a jew if you don't worship idols.
@Danuta GrakowskiYou don't seem to bother with facts either.😂
Subhanna’Allah; an ocean of meaning in such a simple question
Truly amazing vid from both of you, alhamdulillah I have learnt alot, but have so much more to learn insha'Allah. May Allah increase us in knowledge and wisdom with sincerity.
Thank you so much, Mr. Paul; this was a highly informative and enlightening discussion. We would be delighted to have you invite Mr. Zahabi again on the channel! Jazak Allah Khayr, both of you.
Inshallah.
Somebody,
play it on loop!
Resonated with it for over a 100 times :
The nutshell provided by Firas Zahabi in the end has connected the dots he presented. A very good presentation on fitra, knowing ourselves and souls, explanation of ayats, kun fayakun, words, knowing Allah Azzawajal and refuting false beliefs.

That gravity example just blew me away. We assign consciousness to abstract concepts. We talk about nature as if it has a memory, as if it has agency. We talk about karma and assign it a role in exacting punishments and rewards…

Assalamualaikum. This was an amazing episode. Firas is a deep thinker, thanks for having him on 😊

I am muslim and I was rased on Islam from birth. I always believed in Allah and had and still have complete confidence on him and I am truly thankful for that..my name is "blessed" and I am indeed blessed thank Allah. Now.. I never liked reading books.. I don't know why ! Even I know the importance of a book and reading.. maybe because of Media I was exposed to since early age.. that's an other topic. When I listened to the knowledge of Firas, it made sense to me.. know I understand better what Allah had done for me and for all of us human.. sure I understand it better but not all of course , because only Allah knows it all , he's the most knowing ! .. I always ask Allah to teach me more and more .. to teach me good knowledge , a knowledge that brings me closer to him in order to satisfy him of myself .. and now I am in search of that good knowledge.. and it's clear to me that this video is a response.. and I hope I come acrosse to more videos of good knowledge like this one ..thank Allah .. and thank you sir !
Wow! Didn't ever expect this collab, JazakAllah khair brothers. Can't wait to dig in, I'm sure it's going to be enlightening.
Every time I listen to brother Firas, I feel like my brain is going to explode! So incredibly deep thinking, masha Allah!

I dont have to think really hard to understand Firazs Philosophy for dummies.
What a fantastic communicator.
Wow logic brings you to emotion in the end, if you keep it real during the journey. Maa xaa allah such a great video!
This was such an amazing discussion
This interview has become my favorite so far. May Allah reward you brother Paul. Mashallah Firas is a beast intellectual. Beautiful & impressive. I'd like to make some comments on a few things Faris talked about for better understanding.
As to deductive facts vs inductive facts vs historical facts, what Faris proposed is actually antithetical to the understanding in our Islamic tradition. That is, according to our tradition, the sources of knowledge are three:
Also, according to Islamic logic the levels of Judgement (Ahkam) are four:
1. Qatyi = Certainty (100% truth value)
2. Dhanni = Likelihood (close to 100% or 0%)
3. Shakki = Doubt (close 50%)
4. Wahmi = Delusion (not enough information to make any judgement).
Certainty (or uncertainty) can be achieved in all three types of knowledge, deductively, inductively or historically. Particularly:
According to Islamic Logic, there are 7 types of necessary knowledge, aka a priori or natural knowledge, such that you know it without proof or effort:
1. Awali = Primary, that is to know that a thing is itself, which is the same things as to know that a thing & its opposite do not concur (aka the law of non-contradiction)
In fact, all butterflies, all 170 thousand "species" of them can indeed interbreed & produce offspring, just like all 6000 of human ethnicities can.
i just watched the video, and this discussion blow me away, thank you
Here are some key philosophical insights from the conversation:
- Truth can be understood in different ways, such as analytical truths (math), contingent truths (science), and historical truths (unverifiable accounts of the past).
These conversations never get old. Listening to it again.
