I have watched dozens of videos and I cannot tell the difference between V1, and V2-alternate. In fact, as far as I am aware, V1 is equivalent to the Canadian 2-skate, and the V2 is equivalent to the Canadian 1-Skate, but I know of no mention of a “1-Skate Alternate”. So, I’m not sure that Canadians even know the difference. Can you please describe how they differ?

Great question. It is harder to see at first. With V1 your poles are landing with the ski. With V2 and V2 alternate your poles land first. The ski lands when your hands come down to about hip level. V2 you pole on both sides and with V2 alternate you pole on one side. If you watch our other videos there are some slow mo demos and explanations. Thanks for watching.

Thanks for the compliment. Blair does not formerly provide any lessons. He is always happy to offer pointers to fellow skiers. Do you happen to ski at Tahoe Donner?

@@elenal9233 We are usually out there at 8:30 on weekends. It looks like it will be striding conditions for the next week or so.

Excellent video! Love the 7 gears into and the explanations on V1. One question though, other videos (nordic ski lab) indicate that landing on a flat ski is not optimal. What is your take on this? Flat when less steep and then on edge when steeper?

Thank you. Yes landing on a flat ski even uphill is most effective. It does take practice to bring the ski into center each time and get the knees pointed more to the side. Orthotic inserts are needed for some people. Hope that helps. In my later videos I cover more uphill.
