5:57 Stupid nit-pick on my part but the movements that call for the unification of northern Ireland and the republic are actually labelled as Irish republicanism or Irish nationalism, not unionism, unionism is actually the movement that calls for northern Ireland to stay in the UK.
No. Everyone takes the oath. If you swear an oath, you take it on a religious book. If you affirm the oath, there’s no holy book. The oath is the words that people say.
I would have expected some comments about the difference between the Upper Houses, i.e. the elected Canadian Senate vs the unelected UK House of Lords.
That’s not quite right about UK party leaders needing to be MPs. It depends on the party’s own policies. The leader of Reform UK became an MP for the first time this year, only following the election in which he was already running as leader.
@@LydiaMoMydia uk elections r every 5 yrs. In canada its 4 like the us. Canadas federal provincial relationship is largely based on decentralization like the us. In the uk, decisionmaking largely belongs to westminister. In the uk, the house speaker is not affilated with any party. In canada just like the us, the speaker tends to be from the governing party. In uk, politicians seeking to be leader of the party must be a sitting mp. No such rule in canada or the us. In canada and us, the pm or prez cannot fly commercial. No such rule in the uk. Theres prolly more im not fully aware of but here r just a few. The biggest similarity in both canada and uk is the ruling by prime ministership and the monarchy plus westminster system. After that it pretty much ends.

@Ed.E thanks for watching and subscribing!
Why did you use a picture of the late Queen of New Zealand at the beginning of the video?

@bogdantudoryt i try to keep my videos around the 5 minute mark. If this video does well maybe I'll do a part 2
Canada's senate isn't elected either, but at least it has an age limit and it's not hereditary.

Its right for the major parties..reform isnt a major party yet....
Canadian political system may seem similar to the uk but actually has more in common with the united states
