So did Harley Race, Duggan, Haku, Randy Savage, & even fucking Triple H (twice, in fact) all BEFORE him.
I know you said, “One of the few”, but he was the last in a long line. I love Booker. Triple H is my all-time favorite, & I thought Booker should’ve won at Mania that year (I was already graduating college, when that happened. Lol!). I’m just saying. It’s really not all that grand, & while my wife & I still do it & laugh about it from time-to-time (only in remembering Booker himself. We weren’t together back then, or anything), but…I just don’t put it that high up there. I know WWE treats it like it’s some godsend storyline, in their revisionist history.
Which…surprisingly works in so many damn people. But, it just wasn’t “all that” like he says. He WANTS *YOU* to believe that, though. Helps him live the life he loves

The King of the Ring never really meant anything special. Some of the "King" personas the winners used were cringey. King Bookah was great though. He was even King Bookah in video games and he was a menace. WWE should do something cool with Kings/Queens of the Ring like the winners get to create matches at Survivor Series or something. Just like the WWE/World Champs and the Women's champs should have a special characteristic instead of just being wrestler + a belt.

Fun fact: The only wrestler to make Vince break character on live TV was Booker during the segment when he rang Vince to tell him he's going to play bingo lmao.
Jerry Lawyer said once that if you ever make Vince laugh especially on TV, you're always gonna be in his good books. That's why Booker was always featured so prominently during the early 2000s Ruthless Aggression era.
Easily the best thing to ever come out of that horrible invasion angle was WWE acquiring Booker.
He's really the only one to come over from WCW to really make it in WWE and become a bigger star than he was in WCW.

Sharmell did great as a backstage interviewer during her time with the WWF. Her contract simply ran out & they didn't have a reason to re-sign her until this happened & magic storytelling was done & we got the BEST King of the Ring in years, King Bookah & Queen Sharmell "All Hail King Booker!!!" Iconic.

This is why that era was to me even better than the attitude era in a lot of ways. You have an iconic, legendary run and Book wasn’t even at the top at that time. You had all of these established characters that you really cared about and it wasn’t solely about who was in the title/main event picture.

Man, Booker in WWE wasn't my favorite at first. Simply because he was from WCW. But then you actually watch him work, from the mic to the ring, and you just start liking the guy. Simply because he was good in both. The charisma and talent were there. His stuff with Golddust and his feud with Stone Cold are some of my favorite memories from WWE back then. But he had so many good matches and eventually I just became a fan.

Booker T broke my friend Al's collarbone in a wrestling match back in 1993. Sadly, it was Al's one and only shot in the big leagues of WCW. On the bright side, Al had a great run as a heel in Georgia, Florida, Tennessee, and Alabama. And he's living now, yeah!

His work no one ever disputed, the song, the charisma, the crowd interaction always great. But taking a cursed gimmick like the king one was even then and not just surviving but thriving and fully re inventing himself as a main eventer speaks to his talent
