Astounding…. A voice of reason cries out: Don’t go to the doctor’s office expecting real help. Find the ones who truly honor their oath and training beyond what the university tells them.
May the Creator of this universe give you grace.
    Bravo Doc!!! Thank you.

Oh my goodness! Have struggled with this for years, bad hypo symptoms but dismissed as my blood sugar readings are ‘not low enough to cause those symptoms’. And as I’m not diabetic they’re not interested. Thankyou so much for explaining what numerous doctors and consultants have failed to do. I’m eternally grateful.

I was 16 when i had a 6 hour glucose tolerance test. I lasted only 3 hours and was diagnosed as having reactive hypoglycemia. My father has it too. My symptoms started some years earlier after having antibiotics for streptococcus. I'm 49, mother of 5 and have tried many diets. The advice i got was to eat high protein snacks every 3 hours. As a teen in school that was hard to do. Being one of 6 kids, living in NC, USA, we couldn't afford a lot of meet. I soon realized that eggs made me nauseous, peanuts gave me gas, and i got tired of turkey. Moved to Germany after High School and continued my journey of looking for the right diet, while dealing with different health issues like Candida, skin problems, digestive issues. Age 25, after 2nd child, had gallbladder removed. I've tried fasting, vegan/vegetarian for many years. I have inflammation in elbows. Just recently i tried keto. I ended up eating a protein snack first and then some fruit. After 10 days i could wean off the fruit. The first day carnivore was absolutely amazing. I had energy, needed no nap, was mentally stable ( had burn out and depression the last few years). Although a storm was coming in, my blood pressure was also stable. Usually i would get panic attacks when a storm was coming. When the air pressure fell, my blood pressure would fall as well and i would be so tired. Eating meat has supplied the nutrients i needed. I take HCL and enzymes with each meal to digest it. Digestion was my problem. After antibiotics, my body did not make enough HCL. Candida had thrown everything off balance in the gut. The carnivore diet has helped me the most.

      Advise on Hypoglycemia
That’s because protein stabilizes you stabilizes your blood sugars so you won’t end up hypo, to lo, it is simple when you become hypo eat something with protein, not something with sugar to bring it up, and also depends on what type of carbohydrates you eat. There’s healthy carbs and then there’s candy bars, which are non-healthy carbs, orange juice, non-healthy carbs. These are things that are gonna give you a spike, but won’t stabilize you and you come crashing down, have a complex carb along with fiber and protein. It’ll stabilize your sugars for longer whereas if you have a candy bar, you’ll get a sharp rise, but it’ll come crashing down, so it all depends on what you eat that brings on the hypo. I’ve always suffered from hypo glycemia episodes now that I’m a type one diabetic I know exactly what food does to stabilize and maintain healthy sugar levels. If you eat fat and protein, fiber complex healthy carbs will stabilize you longer periods of time preventing you from spiking then crashing protein and fat help to control or minimize your spikes and blood sugar so when you eat, eat your fat and your protein first then your carbs because that protein and fat will somewhat prevent you from spiking blood sugars After your protein and fat is when you should have your fiber and carb fiber also stabilizes you, it slows down the absorption of carbs to maintain you for longer periods of time with stable blood sugars and prevent crashing.

I suffered with this ailment for years and the diet given to me by doctors did nothing but exasperate the problem. I started eating keto, slowly, last October 2019. Since then I have had NO ill effects. Lost 35 pounds, and can now do what I call "light" fasting throughout the day. I feel GREAT! My husband has done this too and lost over 40 pounds. Oh, and my immunity levels are way high, no sickness, and oddly, my thinning hair grew back. Go figure. Eat Keto folks! Live longer, be healthy. The Food Pyramid is a lie.

I was recently diagnosed with hypoglycemia. I am type 2 diabetic however what has worked for me to keep my blood sugar above normal range is taking two teaspoons of sea moss eating a little seaweed salad after each meal. No one is saying that diabetes and low blood sugar insulin resistant is a fiber and mineral deficiency. I promise you eating seaweed has high content minerals and fiber... It will raise your blood sugar and keep it at Bay and or sustained it 4 hours before your next meal eat a snack at midnight and add a teaspoon seaweed.. has worked my sugar levels balanced until the morning.

12 months into a very low carb high fat diet I started akmost passing out 30 mins - 1 hour after a high protein lunch salad. My neighbour gave me a glucose monitor and my fasting sugars were 1.4 Australian measurement. Or near death. I added small amounts of starch at each meal and rectified it. It also cured the dreadful insomnia that lack of carbs caused.
By almost passing out I mean dropping to the floor after my whole brain and body went into low gear and slow motion with my vision distorted and barely any control of my limbs. I'm lucky both times were in reach of the bottom of the fridge which had some pears sitting there. As I sucked a pear, I began to recover enough to get up.
Really frightening as I live alone.

Since my 20s I often experienced hypoglycemia without diabetes. Without the support of doctors I learned I needed to add protein and fat to my meals, especially breakfast. And now at the age of 62 as my blood glucose rises I learn of this condition called Insulin Resistance and that I probably have had it and Reactive Hypoglyemia for nearly for 40 years. For the last 6 weeks I've been low carb, 16-18 hr fasting , lowering my BG , raising my ketones . After ending my first extended fast of 40hrs today, I achieved a fasting glucose of 77 and ketones 3.5. I was elated into thinking I've reversed the IR, but within an hour of my first all protein/fat meal, I experienced that all familiar hypoglycemic emptiness. As a result of listening to you Dr. C, I realize IR will prevent adequate blood glucose from entering my cells. The message is to stay the course. It'll take more than 6 weeks to unwind 40 years. I just pray it won't take 40 years.

Great sharing, thanks you. Maybe try to break the fast more slowly. Have bone broth first, then lean protein like 1 chicken breast a few hours later for the first 2 days. Keep the fat for day 2 onwards. Maybe this way the protein won't spike your insulin so fast... Lots of mixed information out there about the best way to break a fast. Good luck!

    • @heavenlyflower_sl
      @heavenlyflower_sl Год назад

@@Healing_Decibels in my case i had it after dinner as well :(. As for breakfast, it's probably because of the spike after fasting 12hrs (from dinner time to breakfast time), so the blood glucose goes up then insulin drops it down

    • @mtc-j9i

I have to break a fast with bone broth on day 1, followed by green juice (it’s nasty, but pure veggie juice with a bit of lemon) on day 2. After that I can do cooked veggies and salads. A piece of fresh fruit will work on day 2, as well, followed by a salad for the next meal.
Only one time in my life (while on a keto diet) I tried breaking my fast with protein - had eggs and a slice of avocado - and my blood sugar sank so low I could hardly move. That just does not work for my body, even if I’m on a low carb diet.

I had this happen when "treating" myself with some sugar free chocolate a month into keto-vore. My blood sugar has been around 120 after a meal and then one night I had some sugar free peppermint bark and ended up in a clammy sweat, clutching a bucket, feeling like my life force was being drained. I tested my glucose and was at a 76. My body is so used to me binging on sugar that the moment I had something sweet it dumped way too much insulin and I crashed HARD. It all makes sense now!

Thanks, Dr. Cywes. This is the best explanation I’ve found on the hypoglycemia topic. I’m a lifelong hypoglycemic, per diagnosis in my early twenties, now approaching 62. I started keto 15 months ago and haven’t crashed once since, though prior to keto crashes had been increasingly frequent and seemingly unpredictable. I always knew I felt better with protein and avoiding sugar, but until I removed starchy foods I got fatter and more miserable. Weight loss is slow, but I’m down 25 pounds and still dropping. About 3 months ago I transitioned to mostly carnivore and feel better than I have in years. Most recently my fasting insulin was 5. All my labs are great except ldl is through the roof, and of course my doctor is pushing statins. My hdl and triglycerides are both improved and well within optimal range. I’m thankful for this way of eating and no longer living with a constant fear of hunger. I’m so glad I found your channel and I look forward to learning more in your future videos.

You felt better on a carnivore diet because of all of the vitamins and minerals found in meat. However, there's a trade off as it causes acidosis in the body. If you get your vitamins and minerals from whole plant foods, you'll feel just as good but without acidosis

    • @hawkeye9382

It does not cause acidosis! Meat is not acidic. That's a lie!!! Everything we have been told is a lie!! We were told meat is inflammatory! That's a lie! My inflammation left when I went carnivore! I do also take magnesium, potassium and celtic salt.

Never knowing the sugar/carbs are staying in my blood stream and my cells are/were starving.
Insulin resistance is killing us all. AND it is mind blowingly simple to stop.
Heart breaking looking at people everywhere oblivious to their own destiny. But I also find it frustrating people don't want to hear it. As soon as you say keto...no sugar..people think I am a nutter and missing out on living. (their junk toxic life) The world is messed up 😞

    • @manidri1558

Not necessarily. He explained that when you stop eating carbs suddenly (keto diet), your pancreas will keep secreting the previous amounts of insulin so when you stop eating carbs your insulin is too much in your blood so it will deplete your small amounts of sugar in your body, so hypoglycemia symptoms come. (Remember, Insulin transports sugar into cells.)
On the other side, too much insulin recreation by the high amounts of carb consumption will cause a cellular resistance. The cell is "exhausted" of receiving too much insulin and it will stop letting insulin coming in.

I’ve now been off all insulin for the past four months and it is such a relief to not be on the blood sugar roller coaster any longer. This does not mean you will feel crummy while your body is adjusting. Getting rid of the sugar and cutting back on the carbs along with the ultra processed foods is the key to wellness. Dr. Cywes. I am a bodybuilder and I currently follow a low carbohydrate diet. I get around 2000 calories on my off-days and 2700 calories on the days that I work out. My question is regarding muscle growth on the Ketogenic diet. On a ketogenic diet, I get 0.8g of protein per lb of bodyweight (163 lb) so 130g protein, and 20-40g of fat per meal (120g daily). Adding up the calories from the fats and proteins you get (120g fat*9=1080 cal)+(130g protein*4=520 cal) and (60g carbs*4=240 cal). The total calories here when maxing out this equation is 1840 cal. Is there an exception to any of these macro's for bodybuilders to improve calorie intake? Thank you!

dude, golden era body builders ate low carb no sugar diet. they usually were in cafifornia, then after training they took a break at beach to get vitamin d to build muscle. you dont absorb vitamin d (or c) with a lot of sugar into your body.
you will need to eat a lot, they eat more or less carnivore plus milk.
thomas delaurer made a video about this. you train cardio after or in the middle of meals and you train weights at end of a fasting/meal. after the training, you can eat.
first you need to be fat adapted to get into this diet, or you will loose too much mass. go slowing increasing the fat, . the fat plus carb will make you very big, but i think even if only fat have less gains, its much healthier.
if you eat many times a day, you raise your insulin, i think thats good for building muscle.... if you do that with carbs every day, you cam develop palumbolism. so the cure is intermitent fasting and keto. i dont know if eat a lot every day multiple times and keto make you bigger, but its my theory.

I've suffered with an anxiety disorder and agoraphobia for 25 years now. I managed to beat both but had a relapse about three years ago when they both came back. At the time I was over 300 lbs and I've been slowly working on dropping my weight down to 200lbs. I've only just recently been guessing that a lot of my anxiety is due to low blood sugar and I'm in the processes of testing this theory out through diet and a glucose monitor. Although when my blood sugar drops the numbers aren't in the range that would put it at a low level, my body seems to over react and pumps out the adrenaline and cortisol causing anxiety. During this episode if I eat something usually within half and hour my anxiety just slows to a trickle and just stops. I'm not diabetic and I'm not showing signs of prediabetes but for some reason my body is sensitive to blood sugar drops. I'm hoping that by getting away from the SAD diet now in my 40's I won't have to worry about becoming insulin resistant down the road.

Honestly I'm so confused. I am a 15 year old female and have always been a very healthy eater my whole life. Healthy amount of carbs and protein. Since I was about 4 or 5 I dealt with small "crashes" I would get dizzy and weak. Not very severely at that time. But as soon as I turned 12 it became a lot more severe. I kept telling my mom, but because she had never witnessed my "crashes" she thought I was just over reacting. When I turned 13 it was so bad I would pass out a few times a week. Not for long periods just for about 5-10 seconds and then I would be conscious again. I would sweat a lot even in the winter time, I was super weak and shaky all the time. So finally I was taken in during summer break and "tested" for T1D. My pediatrician literally came in, looked at me, pricked my finger and said yah this is totally normal you'll be okay. So we leave and I continue on till I was 14. During my 8th grade school year it had gotten sooo bad. I passed out fairly regularly and would totally lose strength to even move. I also experienced times where I would go numb in my hands and legs. It happened in the car one time and my mom witnessed it so we finally went in again my pediatrician once again literally just looked at me and said. "Uhm... Well I think it's reactive hypoglycemia. It's totally normal for kids your age" no tests nothing. He gave me a diet that he said would work. It's been about 4 months now and no matter how I eat I can't gain weight and my symptoms have barely changed. So I just don't know anymore I've given up. Nothing seems to work and I haven't gotten any better. Should I get checked for T1D officially or is there something else that this might be. I need some help I'm just so lost. Thank you!

Within 6 days of keto and IF i was on 1 keto meal a day. But i aid some pure chocolade an hour later, because i thought i needed some sugar.
The other thing was i took my medications with the meal. This al together raised my bloodsugar to quick and to fast en for to long insuline was released, which gave me to long low bloodsugar, with all the symptoms of a hypo.
Then i took some proteïn and some water. The last one did the trick. At least i think. The water thinnes the bloodsugar and after an hour i was almost back to normal. Maybe the protein helped too.
So try take a few glasses of water if you think you have a reactive hypo and avoid sugars in the beginning. If you really have a hypo, then sugar will help. Of course, consult with your doctor first

I have listen to this video a few times. For years I have had this problem but no one could tell me what it was. I thank you so much for explaining I have had problemmfor years felt awful and when I would go on a low calorie diet it would trigger the problem but I never had an answer. How I know what it is and what to do. Thank you.

Sugar addict all my life. 50lbs overweight. Recently did some low carb/keo with IF and whenever I eat carbs now I get RH. Is this due to me being more sensitive to insulin now? My A1c was only 5.1 but I can't eat carbs anymore so am back doing keto. How long until my insulin levels drop down enough to allow me to eat some carbs without a reaction?

I got dizzy, sweaty, and felt like I was going to faint while doing chores. I had to hold myself up and tested my blood sugar. (I bought a glucose monitor because I haven't felt to great lately). It was 51. This has been increasing in the last year. I use sugar free products and I'm not diabetic. Finding something with sugar wasn't easy. I'm going to town tomorrow to get some frozen juice and sweets for my increasing episodes.
My tests at the local clinic are normal every year. But my symptoms aren't normal. Is there a test for intracellular levels? You probably mentioned it but I wasn't focused. I'm sitting here with a heavy fog in my head trying to feel better so I can finish my chores.
I've been sleeping more days between 12-18 hours and still exhausted. Tired of these symptoms! But there's nothing showing up in my tests. Everything's normal! If I'm about to keel over but nothings wrong.... it's frustrating!
Maybe it's not diabetes but something else. I don't know. It comes and goes. I've been keeping a record. For the most part my glucose test are in the low 80s before a meal and in the low 120s 2 hours after. I feel fine! But not today.
It hits the most while active. It had been awhile since I ate. Perhaps my blood sugar tankedfrom the activity plus not having eaten in awhile. Like, a double whammy! All I had was flavored electrolyte packets. Nothing else with sugar cuz it's all sugar free. I ate the innards of a stuffed pepper. Been sitting here for about 15 minutes slowly feeling better. I don't know how much sugar is in those drink packets. I also had strawberry milk.
I'm not a doctor but the actual doctor can't find nothing wrong. I'm watching videos to understand better about how to change my routines up to find balance with my symptoms. Eventually something has to work. Fingers crossed!

I sure needed this. My boyfriend swears he has hypoglycemia but has never been checked and never diagnosed. What can I tell him so he can either stop it or deal with it? He eats a lot of junk~ First thing in the morning....a bowl of cereal~

Last spring I did strict Keto (20 grams) for six months. I felt great and lost 20 pounds but my lower legs were bright red, swollen, and tender. I also started sweating more. It wasn't a problem until the hot San Antonio summer months when I was burning up every day. Do you have any videos on possible adverse symptoms of keto?

Thanks for your videos, Doc. I have learned more since I have discovered you (a few days ago) than in the last 9 months I've been doing the keto lifestyle. I am a serious carbaholic and it's been a struggle to give up my favorite - homemade yeast bread. Nonetheless, I gave it up and I have lost 18 pounds since I started Keto. Also, I do IF but I can't get down to OMAD. I have to eat twice. Does that mean I am not fat adapted? How can I tell if I am? Thanks again, Doc and congrats to both you and your beautiful wife, that baby boy is precious.

I'm on low carb diet , when fasting it goes to middle 50's in the last hours of fasting with no symptoms, an hour or 2 later it jumps to the 80's due to glucagon .

What is the solution? To get past this problem and reverse the reactive hypoglycemia

@@lizellehattingh281 you can’t ignore this. Best to modify the diet to lessen the chances of crashing, while staying as low in carbs as possible. If the doctor is reading the comments I hope he gives a solution or else Admits that he doesn’t in fact have one !🙏

This was helpful. The other day, I had waffles. At lunch I had some leftover ham. Just ham - no carbs or anything. Couple hours later my blood sugar was 60. I guess this is reactive hypoglycemia, but I dunno. I have a tumor on each of my adrenals, so I think I'll ask the endo about it to be safe since I know now tumors can make hormones. I figure if I got tumors on my adrenals, why not the pancreas as well.

I used to think the keto diet was a nonsense fad.. Then I developed severe reactive hypoglycemia in only a few months.
I still don't have a diagnosis as to why, but in the meantime, fasting and keto seems to be saving my life.
My only intake of carbs is a snack of nuts and cheese (the cheese doesn't even have any) a few hours after my only meal. It seems to stabilize me until the next evening.

Just got a cgm, was getting alerts all night about my sugar being too low. The lowest was 55, I felt great and was not hungry at all. The more my sugar raises, the worse I feel. If it’s 110-130 after a meal, that’s when I feel hypoglycemic, feeling shaky, and feel like a need emergency snack. What’s going on? It’s the opposite of what I ever heard. Fyi I’m not keto.

When I wake up my blood sugar is in normal range, but when I workout, it drops very quickly and I feel like crap. What's the best way to prevent blood sugar from dropping way to low during a workout?

    • @Portia620
      @Portia620 2 года назад +1

Protein like nuts before workout. I have started that where my protein came after the workout and now it had to change thanks to this problem! It’s hard to do abs with food on the stomach!
