This just shows how incredibly fortunate India was to have Shri. PVN Rao as PM during our economic crisis. No other PM in our history (except may be AB Vajpayee) would have had the guts to do what PVNR did because it was political suicide in the short run (and, PVNR was out of power after his term ended).
And PVNR did it with a minority Government (with support from ABV who was LoP at the time).
The appetite of our governments to take decisions which are good for the economy but not necessarily popular ended with ABV's defeat in 2004. MMS may have had a personal preference to take those decisions, but he had no backing and no control over his party to push them through. And the present Modi Government is too populist and simply doesn't want to rock the boat and undertake further reforms because the economy is already growing steadily and it doesn't want to rock the boat and lose support from anyone.
Whatever progress India has achieved in the last 30 years, it owes to 2 Governments - the PVNR government from 1991-1996 and ABV Government from 1998-2004. And Indian public unceremoniously kicked both of them out, ensuring no future Government will dare be brave enough to undertake bold reforms ever again.

The problem is Military has lots of business interests. They run lot of businesses. Every business man needs political connections. So even if Army wants to get out of politics, their business interests come in the way of such a decision. And importantly few Military firms have a monopoly over market. If they leave politics alone, naturally politicians will walk into that space to distribute their political power. And that will compromise Military's financial interests. And to top it, Military has a gun. They don't hesitate to point it to the heads of politicians. You see what kind of a knotted situation it is? Even if someone gives an advice they can't carry it through without some serious bloodshed on streets.

@@diwakarda1 Military rule? I think you mistook Pakistan for India. Our government does not sanction hike in defense budget to bail out army's frontmen like Adani. Indian army smuggled hundreds of tons of Afghan heroin to Indian kids and none questioned when the last consignment of 3000kg was deliberately caught.

We felt great shame when our country India had to go to IMF in 90s.Despite having large size, large population, having a big agriculture,we had to face such dire situation. But I think the main reason is the rampant corruption in Congress rule is the main reason.Congress party started a vicious cycle of corruption in this country since 1970s, which is still very difficult to break even today.Even after 9years of Modi govt., corruption is still happening.IAS officers lobby is still brazenly indulging in rampant corruption.I think that anybody having corruption in his DNA becomes IAS officer.

Without a regional cooperation there are rare chances of progress. Trade between the two countries favours more to Pakistan. India is a huge country and it has less impact of trade. But principally without a regional cooperation among India, Pakistan, China, Iran and other regional countries, it is rare to expect prosperity specially among smaller countries.

Our economies were intertwined since ancient times and majority of pakistan's business community were hindu and sikhs ,Pak lost them, then they lost their manufacturing and exporting hub Bangladesh .. ruined ties with India,Iran,Afganistan with wars .
Invited economic predator chyna 😅 wid unnecessary debts.
Bangladesh is doing fine after 1971 cuz of economic integration with India ... it's perfect symbiosis
It's disappointing to see chynese exploiting natural resources of Pak and iran and shitss back to us all because of pakistani establishment

Great economic questions by Praveen didn't expect a geostrategy expert to ask such astute economic questions. Praveen is a master of all trades. Brilliant guy..but I hope he is really cautious of Pakistani experts who take the line of their military. Uzair is very articulate so was the ex-NSA ISI spy !!

More power to the hard working masses of Pakistan.
May they install a better governance system which uses money wisely to grow the masses of Pakistan rather than waste money on violence across the border

Prime example of Pakistan as a model.
Many countries will follow the example.
    Reduce population significantly.
Education has to be enhanced significantly.
    It takes many years .
India , Bangladesh, Sri Lanka all will follow.

Wen 55% of a budget is for military expenses & the total shared among elites is 85 % of da budget deres only 15% left for public expenditure. Like a scale - 1 side has way to much & shub be taxed accordingly ,cut down military expenses ( dat is a web on its own of funnelling money into radical proxy groups ) wrt Kashmir - Pak. Has violated all u.n resolutions has no locus standi & shud forget ABT Kashmir. Den prob. Da doors will unlock to huge potential.its also become a home to roost for dis very proxies it created to harm India. Ironically it has reached da point of grass to eat wid nukes & itself is being cut up by a 1000 self inflicted cuts.

India should with love fund building lots of Mosques and wonderful madrasas and then give ~$20 billion grant for salaries and upkeep of all the infrastructure of Mosques. We should do it say for 10-12 years i.e. one complete generation. This effort will create multitudes of beautiful moulvis, alims, hafeez vagaira and vagaira. This is how we can turn their human resources to be a burden on their own state. A moulvi is good for manual labor and giving out speeches - none of them are something they can export i.e. very unproductive resource. If you wonderfully transform their society for one generation, it will take at least 30-40 years for them to realize what trick was played on them. Using their "deen" as a hatyar against them.
