I was asked by Bill Making Stuff to join the #bigbotbash and thought that sounded like a lot of fun. The challenge came with a bot randomizer that Bill made to be used with a D20. Here’s my entry based on the numbers I rolled!

Love the build and love the back story even more. Poor war robot--forced to forever watch birds on a backwater planet. I can imagine a movie where it eventually bonds with its owner and comes accept its fate, only to have to remember its original function when an unexpected threat suddenly arrives on the peaceful world and threatens the humans and wildlife of the place.

This sounds like the perfect kind of movie to cry to. Almost like The Iron Giant or something. I'd for sure watch that movie if it were to be made!
Your creativity is abundantly clear in your projects. Not only the physical manifestation of your ideas, but your world building stories really hammer home how creative you are.

This would make a banger of a book, especially if the personality of the Buster Bot gives off HK-47 vibes from the Old Republic Games-
"Yes master, that small winged meat bag you've been watching for has returned to its bacteria-infested breeding grounds to oversee its brood of helpless offspring"
I can just imagine the conversations. "Master, what is our task today?" "Birdwatching" "Ah excellent we are surveying for our later strike!" "No, just watching" "Master, I see a crustacean! I will defend you!" (It's a 2" crab)

The backstory of the bot sounds straight out of the Hitchhikers Guide, this turned out fantastic.

As a corgi owner myself, I highly approve of the little corgi addition! Not to mention the bot is awesome
So good! And I imagine the very tip of this unlucky bot’s sword to show a few small scratches, as he’s been required to use it to open canned fruit, vegetables and baked beans 😢

Poor dude who ended up with the can opener bot is probably being overrun by crustaceans, screaming at customer service on the phone, and demanding immediate evac.
Nah, the can opener robot is horrifyingly efficient at cracking open crustaceans. After all, what are crustaceans but organic cans of meat?
I Love this! The bot... the shipping error... the man and his dog. The made-for-war bot stuck bird watching on a peaceful planet. Now that's fun. 🥰 Excellent story! Excellent diorama!
Love how it floats and the awesome backstory! Wonder if it ever ponders sneaking out at night. I picture it sighing often, which spooks the birds, and irks the man...

If you take suggestions on dioramas I suggest making an ice lake maybe in the mountains with some sort of monster lurking beneath the ice watching people that are ice lake fishing or ice skating or even just traveling, I think it’s a really neat idea that I don’t think you have done yet and has a lot of potential and freedom for creativity! And I also just love a good resin underwater creature diorama from you
The end result looks great! love the outcome of how the robot looks, I'll definitely have to try the sword hovering effect.

I do feel ta little bit sorry about this robot, but I really feel VERY sorry about the poor can opener that was send to war...

Now I want to hear the story of the unlucky human who ended up with a can opening robot in the middle of an intense war zone.
Imagine going up against something like a Gundam equivalent with an over-glorified can opener.
Perhaps another build in store😮?
Randomised bot is such a cool idea! I saw something similar with "mythological creatures" but it was just type, colour, theme.

I think going for the essence of a prompt rather than interpreting it literally will always make for the more interesting build. This is fantastic.
Yeah, because using "Dash" to just be lazy is really going with the essence of the prompt.
Seriously, though, I know this guy is usually honest about it when he's just slapping something together out of boredom. Makes me wonder if one of his friends (or possibly a patron) dragged him into doing this.

Thank you Bill Make Stuff, and to each and every contributor for sharing your creativity, process, humor, insight, and did I mention entertaining? Yes, entertaining! I hope y'all will make this something of a regular/annual sort of group enterprise. Very clever concept, extremely diverse results, however - most of all - and Ms. Whittle Goblin said it best - I found a whole new bunch of channels to subscribe, like, and continue watching. Keep up the GREAT WORK!

I like how you used what's originally a leg armor as a pauldron. But what really does it for me is the little ladder on the back. Superb detail!

Your robot looks so neat! The spherical eye ties the look together. It reminds me of the personality core robots from the Portal games.

Colab suggestion for the future: Something with a knife-making channel, to get a Damascus blade of some variety, and incorporate it into a similar model via large sword?

Nice! That sword looks perfect for harwesting haye for the animals as well! I use to keep them too for that reason and they keep the space wolfs in place if they dare to show up where my blue cload sheeps are...
I have to say, after watching most if not all of the bot bash videos, your's is my favorite by far! I love the simplistic nature of the bot... while also conveying an overall look of pure death.. None of them birds the birdwatcher is watching better fuck with this guy, his Bot Bashed robot of Death will cut down any menacing bird that might get in his way.. Maybe he's watching terrifying birds of prey from a distance, and he needs his menacing sword toting bot to protect him.. that would be a lucky version of this story I suppose lol Very well done my friend!
Pure Magic... Love the Shadow Underneath the Sword and Bot.

Top tip...you can use stainless steel TIG filler rod for an even stronger support. It's prett cheap and comes in all kinds of diameters

Is anybody else getting an image of this robot with his owner just floating in a zen-like fashion on a calm forested planet while a soldier is using his much smaller can opener robot as an improvised anti-gravity skateboard and flying through a battlefield at full speed while performing skateboard moves with Initial D music playing?
And again: Fantastic! The combination of building process and backgroundstory is very good.
Please revisit this challenge! Would love to see more of the random robots!

Model idea: Would love to see a giant horned lizard spewing eye blood at some travelers or even a mule or something(although that may be too much).

I like to see you struggle with the color choices, I feel like I do that all the time. wish I knew more about color theory. Btw I really liked the yellow brown color for the shoulder pads and armor plates that you had originally.

I choose to believe the guy who got the can opener saw the pun, decided to roll with it, leveled the robot up a bit, and is now stalking the battlefields with his custom crab opener.

I really love it. I'd buy that as a kit if it were one. I can't help but want the robot eye part to be facing down as if the robot is either sad or depressed its not raging into battle and instead just servicing as a ladder for man and his dog. I think I'd want a bird or two on the robot just hanging out to sell the story more and maybe some bird shit runs where the birds like to perch a lot heh

Absolutely insane how consistently good those D20 rolls were though?? All but one over 10. Boylei is one of the mighty few to be blessed by the dice gods I think.

what would have been neat is weathering on the sword in the lines of grass, leaves sticks etc to show the guy has the robot making paths for him...
Really cool build. It was so jarring going from your beautiful green newly laid lawn to it painted pure black lol. But the final color turned out awesome.

The head reminds me of a personality core from Portal. The arms being over the head makes me think of one of the bots from the Portal 2 co-op mode 😅
