Spider-Man: Turn Off The Dark 2.0 - Spider-Man vs. Green Goblin Fight

  • A while back, I posted the 1.0 version of this scene. To date, it's my most viewed video on this channel, so I thought people might like to see the full 2.0 version.
For those unaware, this was originally the ending to Act I of 1.0 and 1.5. In that, version, Arachne was the play's main villain. In 2.0, Arachne was scaled back to make the Green Goblin the central antagonist throughout the story. As a result, the fight between Spider-Man and Goblin was moved to the very end of the play.
Another big difference, in the original version, the Geek Chorus narrates while cardboard Spidey and Goblin argue. Since the Geek Chorus was chucked from 2.0, the Marvel fanboys were replaced with other minor supporting characters watching the fight, like J. Jonah Jameson and Flash Thompson.

There's something strangely entrancing about watching Green Goblin dangling like a broken Christmas ornament.

My personal favorite is the 2.0 with Patrick Page. If you can get me a full audio recording of 2.0 with page as the goblin you are my hero @turnoffthedarkarchives

Partly the schadenfreude of seeing the most expensive thing to ever be put on Broadway (by a huge margin) crash and burn, but beyond that it got a lot of negative press for all the injuries, being remarkably unready during previews (having to hold or even end a show mid way due to mechanical issues were common), and the 1.0 version generally being incomprehensible and unsatisfying.
It did get better, but people held onto that reputation for a while. Though the show ran for 3 years, so even if it was still a total financial disaster enough people were interested in seeing it for it to run longer than most Broadway shows.

Because you can do a musical without hamming it up quite this much.

This versionof Green Goblin is a mutant, not a man in a mask, with tech, this goblin said while playing the piano, that he's a little bit of bat (which explains the wings) and some scorpion (which explains the shell stuff and padding on his body)
