For someone who is not american (brazilian) that loves America and the NBA, and actually lived in the US for a while, I still don't quite understand why you guys need an american super star playing in the league do draw interest from the audience. Look at the real football (not soccer) all around the world! People in Spain don't care if Messi is argentinian or english people don't care if CR7 is portuguese... it doesn't matter where you're from! What matters is the shirt's collor you are representing! You guys just won another gold medal, you're the best in basketball... why is it so hard to give some love to foreign players that not in their wildest dreams really thought they could play in the NBA? And yet here they are... guys like Giannis or Jokic or Luka, I don't care if they are greek, serbian, or eslovenian! I just love to see them play the game of basketball! In fact, I love it when guys show up in the big stage coming from all parts of the world. Makes me want to know more about them and their countries, and culture. For your own America's sake, when you're gonna learn that you're not alone in this world? That would make life funnier and happier for yourselves...

There is actual a ton of bias in football as well. The same reason Americans want an American superstar is why English people are biased to their players, and they get sold for far more than they’re worth. They also force them to play in England, and as a result, miss out on the great football being played in Italy, Germany, etc. since all they care about is watching their guys. As someone who consistently follows those leagues it is so hard to find media in English where they know a thing about those leagues outside of UCL. It’s this foolish sense of “nationalism” that I will never understand because they just miss out on great futty just like I don’t understand it in the NBA. I’m American and stay on top of so many football leagues around Europe and it’s awesome. I also love the flavor Wemby, Jokic, Sochan, Doncic, etc have brought to the NBA. That mixed with Anthony Edward’s, KAT, etc has created such a good product. However, sadly I don’t think the overall stigma will ever leave, and really nationalism just grows right now :(. So Americans feel almost fear at the fact these Europeans are better than their players instead of just enjoying the awesome and unique way they play. Media plays a huge part in this as well. Hopefully as wemby gets older we get to know a bit more about him I will say that is one issue with how unique the current best player in the world is, jokic. He’s this mystery and not relatable, which I find super captivating in itself but we’re just so ingrained in seeing these athletic stars who dunk crazy and cheat on their baby mamas lol. I have so many thoughts on this in football and NBA if you couldn’t tell lol 😅

@@Labtiger69 I completly agree with you when you say that what many people find strange in Jokic, is exactly what draws me. It is super funny that a guy that plays in the biggest league in the world and makes tons of money cares more about his horses! 😆
I guess some sort of nationalism will always be there like you mention in England and the premier league. Even here in Brazil, despite the fact that it is clear that we don't have good coaches anymore, the confederation and the media still resist in hiring a foreign coach for the national team. Ok... I understand that. But this shouldn't be enough or be the reason why people in America don't care about the NBA anymore. Why? Because there are no great americans? So what? You still have the teams and the games and a lot of great players. Maybe I'm saying this because I don't care. In fact foreign players make the league even more interesting for me. But I'd love even if there weren't foreign players, cause I just love the game.

The answer to 'why is this generational transition not as good as the ones before?'
is much simpler and really obvious if you ask me: Steph and Lebron haven't declined as much as you would expect at their age, especially with Lebron who is 40.
Two decades ago, you would have naturally passed the torch by retiring or accepting a more symbolic role on a team.
This is clearly not the case and so our minds are still set on these two great legends. Fans are still wondering if they have another chapter to write (and better squad building would have definitely allowed that for them both). There is no actual vacuum for someone to step into.
It takes a monumental american talent (I mean Jordan-esque) to rise and snatch the spotlight away from these types of generational, league-defining superstars - and I'm not sure even this does the trick. Perhaps if Ant was having an unequivocal MVP year after what we've seen from him last season - things would have felt a tad differently.

And Derozan's problem is Mike Brown's offense, not his game -- he's averaging 20 a game on 48% shooting as the 3rd option on a team that doesn't prioritize what he does best which is score off iso's from 20 feet and in.

I agree with a caveat. Although Shaq was awesome, more people imitated Penny. Most 7 footers don't play a style people can or want to imitate as kids. Dirk was the only 7 footer who resonated to some degree because 1) the NBA's jobbing him in 06, 2) him taking down the Heatles in 2011, and, most importantly 3) he played like a guard. People and loved Dirk's shooting. He played an outside style. The inside game doesn't get people excited for the most part. Kids on the playground don't imitate players who's game is exclusively inside.

Wemby is under contract for the next 2 and a half seasons at about $15mil annually. Hes already putting up first team all NBA stats and impact - so, if not already, he's going to be a "first-option on a title team" talent for the 2026 and 2027 playoffs, while being 40-50mil cheaper than his peers. The spurs need to act now to build a contender for those 2 seasons, because that type of luxury is an absolute godsend for building a roster in the new CBA era. Year 3 or 4 Wemby with avengers >>> Slightly superior Wemby with god-knows-what of a roster

The only team that allowed Jimmy be Jimmy and had success with him was the Heat and when they're not interested in extending him, I don't know who would. At times, sierras SEEMS quite similar to Boston.
Realistically, basketball is not getting less important here.
Also, many here DO follow one, sometimes two soccer leagues. That might be because sierras often sends significant athletes out on loan.
However, I have seen little Multiplayer here in the sierras.
The Bay Area servers do at times, get extremely HARDCORE, for Multiplayer. However, pro basketball does not seem likely to neglect Multiplayer anytime soon, from what I've seen, NBA is doubling down on Multiplayer.

The NBA will fuck up and continue to promote old terrible teams instead of the younger better squads and I’m all for it. The nba deserves this criticism. No originality. No creativity. Banking on has-been stars to carry a league full of hungry talented ballers. Can’t wait until the collective panic when Lebron, KD, and Steph retire. The nba will be better for it.
