  • In this episode I cover why it’s essential to check the van body for water leaks before fitting any insulation. And fitting bmw wheels onto a Renault Trafic.
Thankyou to Alex for the wheels and Besst tyres for supplying and fitting the tyres.

Those caliper tops can easily surrender quite a bit of their metal. Did it on an xjs years ago and gave an incentive to clean and paint them.

hi buddy definitely go with a 5mm spacer and longer bolts or wider spacers that bolt on then bolt the wheels to that spacer....
    Looking good though buddy

I have 18" alloys on my vivaro at the moment but want to get rid of them for 16" so fingers crossed i don't have a similar problem

Wheel weights are in wrong place, the cut away hole to the right of the weights is the flat outer wheel well , the weights get fitted on the inner well at the bottom of same cut away.

5mm spacer and longer bolts definitely for calipers hitting the inside of spokes as for inner clearance needed there's always normally plenty of meat on calipers so grinding it down shouldn't be issue 😊 im sure you said that you got a donner van too so yo could grind or cut into a caliper off that n see how thick the material is. Ive seen people grind down 6/8 pot aluminium calipers for clearance with no issues on high performance fast road/race cars so shaving a few mm on standard calipers should be totally fine 😊❤

I have just had exactly the same problem. I had 19 inch X5 wheels on my van and changed them to 16 inch 1 series wheels and off road tyres. I have fitted 5 mm spacers to the front ones but to be honest theres still not a lot of clearance. I wish I had gone for 10mm. I had the outer wheel weights clipped onto the outer of the wheels and have just painted them black. I upgraded the wobble bolts to 48mm thread ones fron eBay. Hope that helps.

Thanks! At least it’s not just me then lol. And everything is fine with that setup?

Yes, no problems at all. Mine weren't as bad as yours though. They didn't quite touch the caliper but the weights were knocked off. I would suggest 10mm at least. @@EndlessRoadJaz
