- Alex Honnold has spent the last 15 years climbing in the outdoors. It’s deepened his appreciation for nature and inspired him to do whatever he can to protect it. We met up with Alex and his fiancé Sanni in Tahoe last summer - the stretch of the Sierra Nevada where it all began for him.

Rivian is on a mission to keep the world adventurous forever. We believe there is a more responsible way to explore the world and are determined to make the transition to sustainable transportation an exciting one. We designed our emissions-free Electric Adventure Vehicles to challenge what’s possible. We hope they inspire you to do the same.
That slide out kitchen is legit!
I sincerely hope that it is real and not just a concept
@@Zee216 it's an option
@@Zee216 It's the ultimate skeptical spouse converter. There's no way they'll launch without the kitchen option.
@@erikreppen9257 If it not, the aftermarket is going to be really quick to made one.
@@erikreppen9257 lol
Wow!! The last touch was very nice!! Tent on the car and the slide kitchen. Wow!!! 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
Ready for a "Build your Own" option on the site to play around with until I can get my hands on one.
Alex - perfect ambassador for eco and outdoursy stuff. Love the guy!
Rivian quit teasing us with that slide out kitchen we want info already!!
Word
Well done. The opportunity to be adventurous in the outdoors is something we’ve taken for granted for too long. A future in which the vehicles that facilitate that adventure also ensure its longevity is one we should all want to be a part of. Sign me up 🙌
Rivian...A forward thinking company! Machine and environment coexisting of a future for mankind with the earth!
It is really tough to wait for such a long time. We all agree that the adventure seeking community is holding every patience possible but please be aware that in this moment of crisis people are still having HOPE. Please Rivian team, we urge you to shed some light on those HOPE. Please make us smile sometimes by actual facts and date of purchase. Greetings from 🇧🇩
This is awesome. Can’t wait to learn more about their charging infrastructure.
None
M Bison thats unfortunate considering there is companies like Atlis coming out with their own charging network. I guess the only thing left to hope for is that they don’t choose a weak charging infrastructure. (Fingers crosses they take up Tesla’s offer for supercharging network access 🤞)
I've heard them say they would be adding allot of charging infrastructure at major national parks. But that's all I've heard because they keep promoting the outdoors with there vehicles.
Alex!!!!! And Rivian, ther máster of Integral and electric car of my dream!!
Well done. You guys just “get it.” Good luck!
Saludos desde Sur America y gracias por el video ilustrativo, respetuoso con el medio Ambiente planetario...Animooóooo. ..
This is amazing! Such a cool truck.
Will this truck come out already, I need this in my life
shaun cobbs you and me both!!!
@@troytokarczyk They have been in business for 10 years now.
Moss Mini I know they have. I have spoken with the VP ( Richard ) a few times now.
PLEASE actually be true..I need a Rivian in my life
A.H. rocks!! Literally.
I don't think I am the target demographic for the pick up. The SUV is amazing. I love it.
This entire video was a vibe
This is beautiful. I'm so excited for this pickup.
Great work Rivian! The best thing about your design is also why i love it, is that you have kept it conventional. I respect Tesla for their work but I dislike them for their designs. Your designs are unique but similar to my all time favourites, the Discovery 4/LR4 and the Ford Explorer 2018 Model. All the very best to you, hope you bring your vehicles to India before Tesla does.
U are a mumu,Are u not tired of seeing d same design all the time,is it not a human been that designed the truck you drive today,so why not allow innovation, it will surprise you that if ford or GM brings a better utility trucks they will steal ravains market.
@@paulerhimona9244 not to mention that brand loyalty is the highest in the pickup truck market, not many boomers would be willing to switch brands after buying from the same one for decades
This truck is Perfect for Norway and my step Climb when going for deer hunting. When are u going to bring it to Norway?? Love it
Isn't That Something Big market for EV cars.
Looooove the car, looooooooooooooove that slide-out kitchen!!!
I can’t wait for my blue R1T. I love the truck already!
WOW the front trunk close by it self!
Finally feels like a car concepted for my needs. My dream would be the posibility to load it over a small & mobile solar panel. When you dont need your car every day or you are camping, the sun would have some time to load it or at least balance the demand for cooking.
Nice prototype! Those actors look really happy. Can't wait..
well, i wouldn't consider Alex an actor as that is not his profession. but technically he did act in this video...or just create dialog. idk lol
@MY TWO CENTS Alex isn’t a actor. He’s a professional climber. And the girl was his then fiancée now his wife.
I can't think of better spokespeople. The Rivian looks fantastic!
Yay! Alex and a nice off roader
YES! i want one with kitchen option like that too.
*sees the slide out kitchen
me: shut up, take my money
When will this be available at my local REI?
Rei style showroom is exactly what I picture for their dealerships
OK, that slide out cook stove blew me away.
Would you guys consider bringing one to Nicaragua? I would love to take it up to me coffee farm!
slide out meals be hitting different...
Okay, Take my money! Hurry up and build this. This is 10 times more appealing than Tesla's Cybertruck. BTW, I'm a Tesla owner.
...as will be it's 5 year cost of ownership...
(Currently on EV 3 and 4.)
Lol, it still has to make production. I love Tesla, I REALLY LOVE THE R1S & R1T
However by the time I can get my hands on this I'll be able to buy a used Cybertruck & a used Model S or X.
Great videos aside, I want them to make more of a effort to fast track the vehicles into production.
It they focused on EV building as much as they focused on these videos then we might have a car soon..
@Cybertruck Capitalist LOL. I wish I had the money to wreak a new vehicle :)
Let the media and public see and feel this thing already.
Beautiful
Wondering when the rivian is actually gonna start getting delivered?!?!?
Me want one! Looks much more appealing than CyberTruck
Hoping to see rivian in India soon.
I really like this pick up design.
Best ever.
Let's make a world better living place.
Than it is now .... "RIVIAN"
Is the production R1S and R1T gonna be unveiled later this year?
Officially delayed until 2021 due to Covid.
Lovely
Saw Oscar document Free Solo with this guy, really recommended. I am Tesla fan, but I hope that Rivian will be successful and sold lot of these, just to replace guzzling ICE vehicles.
Se ve increíble la camioneta....
Saludos cordiales desde Chile
The truck looks nice
How does Rivian feel about independent repair rights for their vehicles?
Devan Mardyks great question! This would be a great differentiating factor with Tesla.
Someone is a fan of Rich Rebuilds and/or EVTV I take it?
(Me too)
@@TedKidd more just a fan of open repair and right to repair in general.
A big part of these electric vehicles is the high voltage system (400V DC). Letting consumers repair high voltage systems would be a complete nightmare. In some of Rich's videos, he nonchalantly opens a high voltage battery without much regard for safety. And then he bitches about not having the right to repair from tesla. It's quite cringe worthy actually. Now granted there are many systems that you should be able to handle repair (infotainment/ 12V stuff).
I bet they don't
love them :)
this vehicle surprised me, increased my passion for electric vehicles even more, i'm brazilian, and i will study to help my nation and buy a RIVIAN R1T
When is it for sale?!?!???
I can't wait for the RUclips videos where they treat this truck like a Ford Raptor
"Yo lets lift it"
That slide out kitchen is class - will it be an option?
Yes.
Yes, yes it will
I Love the car. Ich hoffe auf eine baldige Auslieferung in Europa und einem guten Preis. 👍🏻
i'm sure someone has already mentioned this, but it would be nice to have the slide out kitchen face the other direction. can't open the back door for something when you are cooking
Oh I want one
Hey, how'd that guy get a Rivian?
Rivian- get the bed specs to GoFast Campers so they can build a rooftop camper. I don’t want my $6K mountain bike outside, I want to be able to lock it underneath with my gear and sleep up above.
How long did you let him have the truck
Does anyone know how the federal credits work? What’s the real price after credits? Thanks to anyone who can answer..
Impressive.
I guess Rivian would be the perfect truck for mobile Covid testing. They could power a refrigerator, incubator, or any required lights with a inverter and not need a power cable to the nearby office building.
Can anyone tell me what are the weird glasses he's wearing at 2:05?
@TubeDude78 my same thoughts exactly. I was like “wtf are those?”
I've never heard of this guy before but he almost seems like a modern John Muir. Hope he has a large enough voice to make a difference.
That’s good
How does he charge it? Solar panels?
from granola
Do you have electricity in your country?
RIVIAN please come to INDIA 🇮🇳😘
Rivian and Tesla can coexist and excel! People need options, the more the merrier. Bring out these vehicles already and kick ICEs in the nuts!
Alex is the bees knees.
Man i can use one of those to pull a 14 ft trailer with a couple of palets of tile 😅😅🤣🤣
🥰
There is no production vehicle yet, this is just a mock-up, kids
a fully working mockup anyway, and the factory was almost complete before the COVID lockdown, so to wait more
I am grown man
Smart. You guys have a great marketing team. Now let MKBHD do a factory tour!
lol right. I guarantee you the "factory" is a bunch of manual operations. Rivian is a small time boutique operation as of now. They are like tesla in 2008 making Roadsters.
I just saw a factory build video within the last couple of weeks.
Add Alex name to the title!
Faraday Future made a lot of pretty marketing videos too.
Not this pretty
🔌🔋🔋🔋😍💚
Pls stop using filler in the video. Show us the technical details of the truck and why we should pay 70k for it while twin motor CyberTruck is 45K+. Convince us.
Well said.
Too expensive even not close to afford!😂
Thats not fair they have a truck already
I highly doubt Alex and Sanni have an R1T. They were probably asked to "star" in this promotional video by Rivian.
Perfect for Canada 🇨🇦 but when ?
And 💵💵💰?
johnerickennedy Thanks to COVID, production wont start until 2021. The truck starts around $60k depending on EV tax incentives and the SUV starts around $70k depending on incentives.
Ford will be releasing some EVs on the same platform as a part of their partnership, and those are expected to be cheaper/less premium.
Wish you made a sedan. With that design it would probably be successful
Their mission though is to make electric adventure vehicles so that wouldn't fit in. I'm sure it'd look good though.
@@ragreenburg what about a high riding wagon?
@@Zee216 hey, that might work.
Next model is a high performance rally car.
@@erikreppen9257 I could get into that
Ya know, Honnold isnt the only climber in existence
How is this guy using a truck that isn't even out yet?
The power of prototypes and pre production models. And the power of being part of an advertisement
Hopefully they deprecate fast so I can get one, lol
@Lando Calrissian yea dude let's hustle with more than half the world shut down
I did the math based on people’s costs running a Tesla X, cause it’s the closest veh on the road right now. If u buy the mid range 75K Rivian the break even point for a 50K ICE pick up for me will be about 3 years. That’s at 25K miles per year at $3.25 per gallon for me. Of course The break even point will change depending on how many miles to drive and cost of gas. The more miles you drive and the higher cost of gas, the shorter the break even point.
@@dadventuretv2538 don't forget the cost of oil, oil changes, transmission flushes, and other components of an ICE that are eliminated on an EV. with that, do you know the life span of an EV? do you think they would do 300k miles with one battery before replacement? when i look at a vehicle, i'm looking at how many miles i can put on it before the cost of repairs outweighs the cost of a down payment on a newer vehicle
This great that cybertruck
Are you saying this is better than cyber truck?
Only about 25% of the video was actually devoted to showing the vehicle.
The commercial is great. I wouldn't be surprised if people are complaining right because you didn't show a gay couple just like peloton experienced when they had a normal traditional family in they're commercial.
if you keep making those giant lithium cobalt batteries there wont be any nature left for u to explore!
Anytime a company promotes their moral purpose over tech and specs be suspicious.
Huh? This is an ad to develop desire. Most companies create ads to stimulate desire. But, maybe they shouldn't
I was kind of excited about possible future EV by Rivian. But, this ad does nothing to add excitment or interest. Maybe the opossite. I fast forwarded to see what the point was. Nada. It could have been any vehicle in background. I’ll be waiting for the actually exciting Tesla CyberTruck.
It would be nice to get both a production date & store opening dates in various locations around the U.S.
A marketing strategy geared towards the Urban AND Suburban communities that like SUV'S & Small trucks for their families to travel with families & soccer moms.
Going for the "Adventure & Camping" segment is a good start, however Rivian will reach ALOT more sale quotas if you spread you target marketing strategy.
Tesla has a Sedan (Model S), a midsize SUV (Model X), a Compact car (Model 3) AND a Crossover SUV (Model Y) that's in production.
A LARGE secondary market & here we are in 2020..Covid-19 not withstanding. Are we gonna get production anytime soon?
Yall been in articles since 2018 & that said the company was started in 2009. That's 11yrs! Got $1.5 to 2 billion investment from Ford, Amazon & T. Rowe Price.
Can we get a SUV & truck already? I mean Tesla can put out a YT video if they wanted to. All the other legacy automakers have their commercials on RUclips. Step ya'll game up, I wanna drive R1S, let's get them on the road already.
@Space Case no shit, they started in 2009, they had the billions at least a year before that.
Even Tesla is held up. My point is (if you didn't read) is that this vehicle has been in production for 3 or 4 years
@Space Case I get it, trust me when I say you're preaching to the choir. I get that it takes time.
I've followed this company as well as 7 other EV startups. It's one thing to put a word out. It's another to continually put out videos of your only production model when you're ignoring a large market that you can sell to.
All I'm saying is build your hype, once they saturate the outdoors market then what? How are you going to convince Soccer moms to buy when they've had a Model X for 3yrs?
I get it, everyone is slowed or stopped due to Covid-19, but how they respond afterwards is what's going to show me how serious they truly are.
I say this with the beat intentions & well wishes for this company.
Look, it's easy to make videos and hard to make cars. Let them make their videos. In good time they might make a car too
@@michaellidster1389 I agree, that said..I say what I say with nothing but love & admiration for this company.
I've been tracking this company sense it's inception, looking at jobs, watching the dates be pushed back, watch it go to shows where only random azz celebrities & RUclipsrs get to go...no e of them knew about Rivian or spoke about it afterwards.
It's chasing publicity when it doesn't have to, I know several people just as passionate as I about EV's but we wont be reached out to.
We would promote the hell out of it, put it on our YT channels that are EV centric but we get looked over....
That's all I'm saying, they got the $1.5 billion in funding from Amazon, Ford & T. Rowe Price investment firm. Let's see production already. They managed to produce enough R1T's to make videos, take to events, and car shows that majority of people will never see.
I know how to get the proper eyes on this. Like 1 million views per video rather then 36K... That 1M hit video was only due to the Tank Turn system which is literally the most genius thing to come out in EV since Tesla (who happened to open source their proprietary patents so push the EV momentum) to come out.
Again yes, making videos is easier then building a vehicle, however if they put as much effort into production as they do chasing buzz & exposure to YT personalities, celebrities.
Then we can have a vehicle right now, these are professionally shot, full on production style videos. That effort could have gon to producing a EV vehicle.
And how is the that couple that love to live minimally going to afford a $70k truck?
Living minimally doesn't mean having a minimal income
@Rough Chop HAHAHA Right!
If anything, living minimally would make it easier to afford the truck. No mortgage, way less money for utilities, etc
Living minimally allows you to save more. Compare the cost of a full size home to a tiny home. A 70k car on top of a 300k mortgage VS a 70k car on top of a 50-100k tiny home that can charge your EV off the grid. Sure you can have your 300k home be off grid and charge your car but the upkeep and paying off a house that big costs much more than living with a small footprint. With less excess to pay for the savings really start stacking up even if the initial price of the vehicle is high. Live in your car like these people and things really get fun.
That being said, once you factor all this in and then put it up against the cybertruck's introduction price the rivian really is overpriced. Beautiful but overpriced.
It's called "play poor".
Cant wait to roll coal with this thing
You can easily roll a lump of coal down a hill by hand. No need for a truck. Probably easier by hand ya dumby. Read a book, educate yourself. And learn some geography dingus. I know you didn't say anything about geography, but I can still tell your knowledge is lacking in that department. Dingus
Tesla where you at, oh that's right with your abomination of a truck you failed on ha xD
650,000 reservations suggest you may be an idiot...
@@TedKidd No suggestion required there.
Don't be so mean. Ya big meany
I wonder if Alex want to die of old age while climbing the side of a cliff.
Can we just see the truck doing truck stuff and not all the nonsense?
I’d like hear more about the truck and it’s features rather than climate change. That’s been pushed down our throats for over a decade now. I really feel like these types of advertisements will rub potential buyers the wrong way. I do want the suv for my wife though!
AGREE!
Im on EV #3 and 4.
So tired of climate change whiners. Biggest hypocrites.
Rivian if you promote this truck as a go green truck I’m out. I want an electric truck because of the torque and usability not the go green aspect. If you truly care to go green then find a way to stop using oil in general such as natural paints, plastics, metals, fabrics, etc. It had been proven how much pollution it takes to make batteries from mining and shipping the raw material to make a chemical, then shipping it again to make the cells, then shipping it again to put it into the car, then shipping the cars around the world. It was studied and claimed that a Toyota Prius polluted just as much as a Land Rover with a v8 throughout its life because of the manufacturing of the batteries. You’ve got a good plan to reuse dead batteries after the life of the car but don’t put the horse before the carriage. Anybody who knows what oil is really used for will understand green cars are not the solution.
Video does not make sense he says he lives in a van but then has a solar powered house and drives at least a 60000 dollar truck. Don’t get me wrong I love Rivian and think what they are doing is amazing and they don’t need advertising like this because honestly not believable and anyone that heads a non profit lives in a solar house and drives at least a 60000 truck is not the hero they need they need . Honestly as the brand is impressive on its own and people and ads like this one make me ask why lower yourself and push badly written half truths when you are strong enough on your own, and a company that will really show Tesla how it’s done :)
