I watched it and I liked it for what it was .. but it was certainly no Masterpiece that schools "Woke Hollywood." It simply wasn't that complex of a film. I don't even think it deserves the Best Visual Effects nomination it did receive. The ending wasn't very dynamic .. Godzilla had to sit still for the take-down plan to work .. and he did .. how nice of him Despite showing a Godzilla that was a fantastic swimmer taking out Naval warships in the first half of the picture. The ending just needed more of that Terrifying Godzilla, and he didn't show up.
The Iron Claw got Snub. Not one nominations.

Honestly, Ryan should get it for supporting actor BECAUSE he brought a lot of depth to a silly character. It's easy to play dramatics in roles based on real life, but it's harder bringing depth to fiction in my opinion. There's no source material... it's you and the director molding something that wasn't there before.
He should be arrested and so should everybody involved with this travesty.

Anyone else disappointed that Godzilla Minus One didn't get nominated for best picture? That movie is a masterpiece especially for the budget used compared to current hollywood movies, it deserves a lot more support and attention.
Just like the Grammys never give awards to boy-bands, monster movies don't get nominated for Best Picture.

Honestly I love Margot and Ryan. And I understand that the Barbie movie is iconic. I even know women who cried through it because of their experiences with misogyny. But I thought is was silly and now nearly as important as the other movies mentioned
A movie can be both silly and important. It doesn't have to be based off real emotionally charged events to be impactful. There should be room for well executed playfulness in the Oscars.

After giving it some thought I've realised that the backlash for the snubs is partly because of people having a personal connection with the film, but also partly because the film in itself, evaluated purely from a filmmaking standpoint, seems to have impressed a lot of people

Just saw Godzilla Minus One in black and white today and I absolutely LOVED it. It was amazing! Just as good if not better than it was in color. If anything the black and white made it more ominous and scary, particularly with every scene involving Godzilla. Having seen the movie a second time I am once again ashamed and disappointed that Hollywood and the Oscars would dare snub such a wonderful masterpiece!

Godzilla Minus one? Easily the best picture this year. I saw it got a nomination for VFX. But I guess the academy would be pretty embarrassed if a 15 mil monster film won best picture.

The Color Purple wasn't that good. It was an over the top campy musical .Danielle Brooks was the only phenomenal one in that movie.

Those are some good picks! I agree with almost all of them except Best picture I would go with killers of the flower, Moon, or Oppenheimer as those stories need to be told, and for best actress, I would say Annette Bening is (over) due! And she was brilliant.

@@traydaniel0403 many do! and you would think I would as she’s first nations as am I, proud born and raised, but I would like to see her get a bit more experience under her belt so that this Oscar is won because of an illustrious career and not just a one off role she happened to be great at because she’s basically playing herself. A few more delicious roles to see her acting chops! (i’m thinking of Mira Sorvino 1995 Oscar win then basically terrible roles to try to get back to that level when she hadn’t really achieved that level yet) but that’s just me and we will be rooting for great actresses all the way around! 😃
G -1 deserved to be nominated for every category but because Hollywood decided it wants to be selfish here's what I think:
I agree with almost every one of these choices except for best picture; especially best picture. I think Oppenheimer should win best picture, or Killers of the Flower Moon. At least I've actually seen and heard these movies.

I'm really happy that Ryan Gosling got nomitated, but I mean come on for "Barbie" really. Not saying he's performance was bad, but I mean he had much better performances.

And of course Leo DiCaprio wasn't nominated. As always. He can play as well as he wants. It's never good enough. Or, it's much simpler and certain people pay and bribe those in charge so that Leo doesn't get an Oscar anymore. He acted so well in many of his films, including getting injured, that he should have gotten at least an Oscar. If I were him, I would only go if Kate Winslet was there. Otherwise it would be really stupid for me to see that everyone else gets an Oscar, but of course not me. I wonder why. A nomination is currently being accepted, but nothing more. @@MalissiaCreates It wasn't a horror film but it felt like one, a psychological drama about a woman who married her student. They portray her as psychotic, manipulative and controlling.
The guy is trapped and always assumed it to be okay, and when he comes to terms with her being bad, she gaslights him and pretends that everyone around them that comes between them is at fault and not her.
