Like I've said in my Steam review, this game is a miracle that happens only once every decade. The fact that a team o volunteers managed to heroically pull out something like this is nothing short of incredible and it shows that even after 20 years gothic's impact is still felt. Those games will forever remain the gold standard for an rpg in my book.

Khorinis didn't have the premiere yet but maybe in the future it will come out.
Absolutely agree, this is BY FAR the best thing that has come out in the Gothic universe since Gothic 2 NOTR. It is absolutely crazy how much everything here and I mean everything from the story to gameplay to the wonderful music channels the very best of Gothic. I can't get over how insanely phenomenal this mod is.
Y its good but the english version seems so dead absolutely 0 voice sounds not even the citizens interact with each other with voices feels like you are deaf...
I would argue that you have no idea what you are talking about :) This is a phenomenal mod, and yes, 20 years after NOTR it even does some things better (cooking recipes, easier start for new players etc) but to legit claim that a mod, as good as it is could ever top one of the best RPGs ever made is just a bad joke. Even the devs themselves, as honored as they would be at the praise would tell you as much.
25 hours in, I just finished all the q in the first village and explore a bit the wilderness. Is SO MUCH Gothic, I cant belive it. This is the real Gothic 3 for me. Lorewise is perfect, gameplay is Gothic 2 NotrR plus, the economy is perfect, quests are written in Gothic fashion, the music, the feeling, ALL is Gothic. Million thanks to the devs, this is my GOTY first option. Also very good review, you are a wonderful person. Peace
I was actually surprised when i found there was no easy gold exploits like in Gothic where you could get rich in half an hour, i'm actually struggling more than in any game to get gold
@@LightVelox yes, the economy is the best one in all of Gothic games. Now you really have to work for gold, like in real life. Is much more organic. Also the map is very big, but they made and excellent job, you can remember every path and bush.
@@bilibistrox yeah, the layout of everything is so iconic and easy to remember, till you get to archolos then you are almost required to buy a map lol, and that's not a bad thing imo, the city looks and feels big
Played a few hours so far, and I just wish this level of attention and respect to the original creations was common among the studios/people who take upon themselves to expand different IPs.
In the beginning there was a one team that did one mod (The History of Khorinis) then split into two separate teams due to misunderstandings. One of them created 'The Chronicles of Myrtana' and the other is still making 'The History of Khorinis'.
Started playing last week. I'm in the City now progressing the story. I bought a Map. The Map is HuGE. I'm exploring and fascinated how brilliantly similar it is to real Gothic. It's beautiful I hope the gothic Remake gives me these same feelings that this mod gives me. I still have so much to do, and I'm happy
To everyone reading this, take a sit and listen: THERE WILL BE TWO OR THREE MODS AS BIG AS THIS IN GOTHIC UNIVERSE! One will most likely came out in next year and it is called "Dzieje Khorinis" / "History Of Khorinis", it is rumored to be out in two parts one in some island like Archolos, second would be new history in Khorinis before magic barrier (but it is not confirmed if and when they will manage to do second mod). Aside of this there is also another super big mod coming up called "Żeglarze Burz" / "Sailors Of The Storm" that is in rather early stage of development but peopel work on it hard and it seems to be totally on the Chronicles level.
Didn't even know this was in production, I always confused it with History of Korhinis. Immediately dowloaded it on GOG while watching the video, thanks for bringing this to my attention and the excellent review :)
@@38procentkrytyk Interesting, I didn't know that. I'm currently about 40 hours into the Archolos Mod and I have to say it's really close to Gothic 2 in terms of quality. In certain aspects (crafting, itemization, visuals) I think it's even better than any Gothic game that came before it. So I'm curious if the history of Korhinis can keep with the quality bar set by this fantastic Mod but hearing that they have the same roots so to speak makes me really look forward to their "competitors".
Can't wait to see you review another polish Gothic mod - History of Khorinis, set 10 years before the barrier was made. They're doing amazing work and I'm incredibly excited to play it when it's finished.
Wish you had mentioned the city. It was an absolute shock for me. First impression: The city is partially cut off, just like a wonderful risen. Second: It is a little bigger than Khornis. Third: This is fucking novigrad 2.0. Fourth: Christ, you can find a quest on every street, lots of extra activities, random encounters, at night the city is much more dangerous just like Vizima in the first witcher, the city is gigantic and much more fun than any city in RPG games I know.
Main city is absolutely fantastic! But it is 2nd best city in all of RPGs I know. Athkatla of Baldur's Gate II still wins as best city in regards to amount and quality of content put into one city :)

This formula that the gothic games created what is so damn addictive to me. To start off as a weak nobody and to work your way up to be a hero by completing quests and killing all kind of creatures. You would think its such a cliche but no other rpg kept me entertained as long as gothic did. I absolutely loved it back in the days and I just started to replay each episode again not too long ago and damn...I still have more fun with them than with most modern game. I just hope THQ Nordic will do a decent job with the remake.

It is so cool to find a youtuber and a Gothic fan and hearing someone speaking with such a passion about a game which compare to new releases is graphicly inferior is verry joyfull and refreshing. Don't know how old you are but i remember the time when Gothic was released and i'll never forget the atmosphere and even though we got 2022 in the callendar now i still feel axactly the same emotions as it was at my first Gothic gameplay which was in early years of 2000 so i think it saids everything about the game ;) (If i'm not mistaken in my country Gothic was released in mid 2001)
@@komplaints7893 bro read about secrets, they implement a lot of things to find, some character encounters, events to trigger and stuff, also like said before [SPOILER] [SPOILER] there is secret ending to trigger if you do main quest without doing any side missions, thats not all, there is also way to find out why Jorn was kidnapped, you have to go to Helga where Kurt is staying (only in 5th chapter), find his note in his room, ask Helga about it, then go and check out city sewers where you will find things that will reveal you everything:)
I can’t believe how great this game is! I have been debating is this better than the original gothic 2. I am thinking yes so far but I’m still in chapter 1 with pushing 50 hours of play. Thanks for always promoting gothic LKM!
I played a mod with German (I completely dont speak that language) dubbing once, and to get an "immersion", I imagined that on this island they used a different dialect than in other parts of the kingdom. My character could speak it but needed to focus more (read the subtitles :p). It really worked for me. So if you don't speak Polish but you want to play with a voiceover, I recommend it

I'm having a blast with this one. After becoming a citizen of the City... I couldn't decide which guild to join, so I flipped a coin. The coin said to join the dirty, crooked, incompetent and useless city guard. In the second walkthrough I will join the Araxos Mercenaries :)
It is great how many things to find they implemented in the game, specific encounters at specific time and place, events to trigger, easter eggs to find, and only very few will get to informations about who was Jorn and why he was kidnapped to understand the whole turn of the events, you can find informations about it in the internet or I can point at how to find them without making spoilers if someone want

@@MrOthello7 Gothic 1 + 2 is my all-time favorite game, but the teaser, from what I've heard, is more than just a teaser, it is a demo of the finished game. If this is true then it's a shit show and not worthy of calling a Gothic remake, more like a newer Arcania clone. The only difference to Chronicles of Myrtana is that the modders are not paid by a publisher and the game feels far more like Gothic. The remake team gets paid and they still produce shit.
I've been enjoying this mod a lot. It's hard for me to think this isn't an expansion professionaly made by PB for Gothic 2 NotR, now I am just replaying it and waiting for History of Khorinis mod. At the same time I'm going to play Odyssey and maybe Returning New Balance
I love this game as I'm a big fan of Gothic. Story is great, and very well made. I'm in 10hrs and it works great on windows7 and linux mint. I installed from Gothic gold then did all patching then switched to linux. Loading and saving is a lil longer on linux but no worries about that. Would be nice to hear english voice acting and I want to know if there is a way to do it with software, if only for myself. If someone can show me a way to go from .wav to compatible with this mod. If it works well I will share it! I'm happy to see Gothic is still alive. Always was the best game ever produced for me.

does training skills with trainers use Learning Points at the current listed level + items, permanent potion effects, etc OR does it use it at its core valued trained? (say you had 20 strength, and a permanent potion made it 30, does leveling up strength count Learning Point cost from 20 or 30?)
i did not know that you had to download a mod for voiceover, so i played this game on silent, and because the story was decent, it worked similarly to reading a book.
Like any other dieheart Gothic fan out there i was watching this mod, or best to say, even before the team splits and go for 2 different projects, this and 'History of Khorinis'. I havent played this one yet, but if i remember right the devs said there is no playable Paladin faction, unfortunately.. Is this true? Paladins was one of the major things i really enjoyed in Gothic 2.
Respawning monsters is prerequisite for infite experience. In Gothic 2 limited experience therefore strategic desision where to spend learning points was one of the best features if you ask me. You just can.t have enough points to learn things like alchemy and smithing recepies and diferent skinnings. Even thief skills /pickpocket, lockpick, even sneak/ was hard desision - you gain lots of money from them but you lose presios learning points. Non respawn also meaned limited money from loot. And you tell me that they removed cost of learning points for crafting adding at the same time potential infinite gold and exp. Thats my opinion . Never mind that - Gothic 2 for me is my best game ever created /and this is awsome news. If you ask me Gothic 3 and follwing PB games tottaly failed with what made Gothic 1 and esspesially Gothic 2 great.
@ LastKnownMeal Did you catch any funny words while playing this mod? We Poles and our neighbors have more or less similar languages and we often laugh at each other's words. Some words even appear in both languages, but mean something completely different, which leads to funny situations. I know you live a bit further away, but I'm asking out of curiosity. I´m enjoying the mod a lot but I wanted to ask if any of you are aware of some mods or stuff to make Archolos look a bit better? I´m using the dx11 renderer already and reshade. Is there anything else like a texture pack?
You can do pretty things with reshade and it's depth buffer! Courner rounding, ambient lights, DoF and MXAO adds a lot. Apart from that maybe some stuff from L'Hiver could be ported
@@us7876 Yup, I did those things with reshade and I´m pretty satisfied with the look of the game. I finished the game after 100 hours now. Is it true that they are planning a hard difficulty in an upcoming patch? Would be nice for my 2nd playthrough.
the only thing i kind of dont like about the mod that its to easy. because you can get easy over level 60 in chapter 4 and get infinite stats because of potions and food that increases str, dex, mana, hp, armor etc.
What do I have to say? F\/ck the Gothic 1 remake, f\/ck Elex II, f\/ck every other contemporary fantasy RPG. What I have just played for a couple of hours in recent time was the best - THE BEST - RPG-expierience in a lifetime. This "mod" breathes Gothic - from the simplest polygon to the well set tunes of that Rosenkranz worshipping soundtrack - it. is. Gothic. I can't wait to explore every little detail of this gem and will be playing it over and over until I f\/cking die. Hands off, 11/10, props to these polish blokes (hello neighbours :D) and a big HALLELUIA to this awesome game!!!!!!!!
Cheers LKM. I've never played G2. Lucky me! Can you or anyone help me decide between GOG and Steam versions please? Steam seems like it's an older build whereas the GOG one requires less modding and is more stable?
Oh you are in for a treat, I would go with GoG version since it's most stable, but they patched the steam one recently so it's stable as well. It's pretty much up to you which platform you use more
well... orcs destroyed royal fleet only somewhere before gothic 2 and not in time of this. not even sure why they have that piece here they could simply say ships were confiscated for war effort. even even sheep destruction comes from not reliable source as mario is beliar agent. so not sure how canon is that stuff.. also new enemies like bear and turtle are meh... gothic had this fantastic non real enemies and too many real life enemies are kind of not really fun. but other variety like sea lurker... thats nice one also new weapons are fun. not sure where rubber came from for slingshots and i heard those sadly cant be used by players but thats really nice weapon i would prefer sling but its step into right direction. and polearms are nice to see there too. and all new crafting. and houses being build in city... thats fun too really makes place more alive and of course bakery even if we cant do baking it really makes all more alive
Depends IMO. If you are looking for a challenge returning 2.0 on hardest difficulty is insane and quite fun IMO. If you are looking for a new amazing story COM it is. But if you are gothic veteran the game is laughably easy to the point where if you do most sidequests, by the end of chapter 2 you are gonna slaughter everything. It sucks, because it kinda breaks the immersion and nothing feels rewarding really.
One quality of life advice I have for you all: 1. Go to settings. 2. Set "Gothic 1 controls" to *OFF*. 2.1. Bind "left attack" and "right attack" to something convenient. 3. Set "Gothic 1 inventory" to *ON*. Why? It's my personal opinion, but G1 controls suck - you can't interact with anything by just clicking it. You have to click AND press forward for most things - it was unintuitive when G1 came back, and it's massively unintuitive 20 years after that. *HOWEVER* the inventory is actually better than G2 inventory for one simple reason - tabs. G1 inventory has tabs (weapons, armors, magic, food etc. etc.) that you can switch between (Shift + A/D), whereas G2 inventory is one gigantic lump of everything - at first it's ok, but even in early-mid-game your inventory becomes so overstuffed with all kinds of things that you will spend 2 minutes to find any item you want.
It is a fantastic mod, but my major problem with the game is that it's extremely easy. Even easier than vanilla gothic 2. I get that it is mostly about the story, but I don't understand why they didn't let us at least choose difficulty which could literally change just the numbers like dmg and health on NPCs. If you do at least 80% sidequests, you are gonna slaughter everything no problem after chapter 2.
Community needs to take original games and this new mod and port everything in UE5, make some improvements so that it can be controller friendly for new comers but still have that old school control system. If this is done, we will not need that remake. If this idea becomes a reality I'll be glad to hoop on that train and help with it. You can even leave two graphical mods like Halo did so that you can toggle. It's a lot of work but can be done in 4 years.

Its easily the best gothic mod ever made. A true masterpiece in every aspect.

I'm glad this turned out so well, this puts the bar pretty high for the other big Gothic mod which has no release date so far.

Yes it's a great city and I did mention it, I won't go too far into spoilers anyway. Plus you had multiple gameplay moments from it
even the first small city has more content than any city in skyrim, it's ridiculous

1 year passed and they made some voice upgrades check it out there are more dub languages to choose from

I'm having a blast with this one. After becoming a citizen of the City... I couldn't decide which guild to join, so I flipped a coin. The coin said to join the dirty, crooked, incompetent and useless city guard. In the second walkthrough I will join the Araxos Mercenaries :)

It is great how many things to find they implemented in the game, specific encounters at specific time and place, events to trigger, easter eggs to find, and only very few will get to informations about who was Jorn and why he was kidnapped to understand the whole turn of the events, you can find informations about it in the internet or I can point at how to find them without making spoilers if someone want

@@MrOthello7 Gothic 1 + 2 is my all-time favorite game, but the teaser, from what I've heard, is more than just a teaser, it is a demo of the finished game. If this is true then it's a shit show and not worthy of calling a Gothic remake, more like a newer Arcania clone.
The only difference to Chronicles of Myrtana is that the modders are not paid by a publisher and the game feels far more like Gothic. The remake team gets paid and they still produce shit.

I've been enjoying this mod a lot. It's hard for me to think this isn't an expansion professionaly made by PB for Gothic 2 NotR, now I am just replaying it and waiting for History of Khorinis mod. At the same time I'm going to play Odyssey and maybe Returning New Balance

I love this game as I'm a big fan of Gothic. Story is great, and very well made. I'm in 10hrs and it works great on windows7 and linux mint. I installed from Gothic gold then did all patching then switched to linux. Loading and saving is a lil longer on linux but no worries about that. Would be nice to hear english voice acting and I want to know if there is a way to do it with software, if only for myself. If someone can show me a way to go from .wav to compatible with this mod. If it works well I will share it! I'm happy to see Gothic is still alive. Always was the best game ever produced for me.

does training skills with trainers use Learning Points at the current listed level + items, permanent potion effects, etc OR does it use it at its core valued trained?
(say you had 20 strength, and a permanent potion made it 30, does leveling up strength count Learning Point cost from 20 or 30?)
you can drink perma potions as soon as you get them, they dont affect learning points with teachers.

Like any other dieheart Gothic fan out there i was watching this mod, or best to say, even before the team splits and go for 2 different projects, this and 'History of Khorinis'.
I havent played this one yet, but if i remember right the devs said there is no playable Paladin faction, unfortunately.. Is this true? Paladins was one of the major things i really enjoyed in Gothic 2.
Respawning monsters is prerequisite for infite experience. In Gothic 2 limited experience therefore strategic desision where to spend learning points was one of the best features if you ask me. You just can.t have enough points to learn things like alchemy and smithing recepies and diferent skinnings. Even thief skills /pickpocket, lockpick, even sneak/ was hard desision - you gain lots of money from them but you lose presios learning points. Non respawn also meaned limited money from loot. And you tell me that they removed cost of learning points for crafting adding at the same time potential infinite gold and exp. Thats my opinion . Never mind that - Gothic 2 for me is my best game ever created /and this is awsome news. If you ask me Gothic 3 and follwing PB games tottaly failed with what made Gothic 1 and esspesially Gothic 2 great.
Crafting costs learning points, monsters do not respawn endlessly (XP is still limited).

LastKnownMeal Did you catch any funny words while playing this mod? We Poles and our neighbors have more or less similar languages and we often laugh at each other's words. Some words even appear in both languages, but mean something completely different, which leads to funny situations. I know you live a bit further away, but I'm asking out of curiosity.

I´m enjoying the mod a lot but I wanted to ask if any of you are aware of some mods or stuff to make Archolos look a bit better? I´m using the dx11 renderer already and reshade. Is there anything else like a texture pack?

You can do pretty things with reshade and it's depth buffer! Courner rounding, ambient lights, DoF and MXAO adds a lot.
Apart from that maybe some stuff from L'Hiver could be ported
@@us7876 Yup, I did those things with reshade and I´m pretty satisfied with the look of the game. I finished the game after 100 hours now. Is it true that they are planning a hard difficulty in an upcoming patch? Would be nice for my 2nd playthrough.

the only thing i kind of dont like about the mod that its to easy. because you can get easy over level 60 in chapter 4 and get infinite stats because of potions and food that increases str, dex, mana, hp, armor etc.

F\/ck the Gothic 1 remake, f\/ck Elex II, f\/ck every other contemporary fantasy RPG. What I have just played for a couple of hours in recent time was the best - THE BEST - RPG-expierience in a lifetime. This "mod" breathes Gothic - from the simplest polygon to the well set tunes of that Rosenkranz worshipping soundtrack - it. is. Gothic. I can't wait to explore every little detail of this gem and will be playing it over and over until I f\/cking die.
Hands off, 11/10, props to these polish blokes (hello neighbours :D) and a big HALLELUIA to this awesome game!!!!!!!!

Steam seems like it's an older build whereas the GOG one requires less modding and is more stable?
Oh you are in for a treat, I would go with GoG version since it's most stable, but they patched the steam one recently so it's stable as well. It's pretty much up to you which platform you use more

well... orcs destroyed royal fleet only somewhere before gothic 2 and not in time of this. not even sure why they have that piece here they could simply say ships were confiscated for war effort. even even sheep destruction comes from not reliable source as mario is beliar agent. so not sure how canon is that stuff..
also new enemies like bear and turtle are meh... gothic had this fantastic non real enemies and too many real life enemies are kind of not really fun.
but other variety like sea lurker... thats nice one
also new weapons are fun. not sure where rubber came from for slingshots and i heard those sadly cant be used by players but thats really nice weapon i would prefer sling but its step into right direction. and polearms are nice to see there too. and all new crafting. and houses being build in city... thats fun too really makes place more alive and of course bakery even if we cant do baking it really makes all more alive

Depends IMO. If you are looking for a challenge returning 2.0 on hardest difficulty is insane and quite fun IMO. If you are looking for a new amazing story COM it is. But if you are gothic veteran the game is laughably easy to the point where if you do most sidequests, by the end of chapter 2 you are gonna slaughter everything. It sucks, because it kinda breaks the immersion and nothing feels rewarding really.

One quality of life advice I have for you all:
1. Go to settings.
2. Set "Gothic 1 controls" to *OFF*.
2.1. Bind "left attack" and "right attack" to something convenient.
3. Set "Gothic 1 inventory" to *ON*.
Why? It's my personal opinion, but G1 controls suck - you can't interact with anything by just clicking it. You have to click AND press forward for most things - it was unintuitive when G1 came back, and it's massively unintuitive 20 years after that.
*HOWEVER* the inventory is actually better than G2 inventory for one simple reason - tabs. G1 inventory has tabs (weapons, armors, magic, food etc. etc.) that you can switch between (Shift + A/D), whereas G2 inventory is one gigantic lump of everything - at first it's ok, but even in early-mid-game your inventory becomes so overstuffed with all kinds of things that you will spend 2 minutes to find any item you want.
It is a fantastic mod, but my major problem with the game is that it's extremely easy. Even easier than vanilla gothic 2. I get that it is mostly about the story, but I don't understand why they didn't let us at least choose difficulty which could literally change just the numbers like dmg and health on NPCs. If you do at least 80% sidequests, you are gonna slaughter everything no problem after chapter 2.
Community needs to take original games and this new mod and port everything in UE5, make some improvements so that it can be controller friendly for new comers but still have that old school control system. If this is done, we will not need that remake. If this idea becomes a reality I'll be glad to hoop on that train and help with it. You can even leave two graphical mods like Halo did so that you can toggle.
It's a lot of work but can be done in 4 years.
