But to me, that was never the problem with the site. It is the overpriced, overly confident, high-horse artists who are worse trolls than the trolls ever were. And to me, that's worse than any visual upgrade to the site.
was discussing this with a friend the other day, about how cool id software used to be making moddable and fun games, open sourcing them, porting them to Linux when no one else was, etc.. None of that stuff happens anymore. Everything is so lame now. All of the old guard in PC gaming sold out
After the Xbox became the only consolized computer to succeed in the market, every developer became a console developer to make more money. The fall of PC only game sales numbers and the rise of the piracy excuse (like with Crysis) sealed the deal and the PC is now another port machine. As for ID, it's interesting seeing all the new "boomer shooters" come out. They'll copy the aesthetics and gameplay, but they'll forget the little things like that which made id games famous.
@@Gligar13Vids the only company that somewhat resembles old PC 90's culture is valve but they only support Linux for selfish reasons, not wanting to put all of their eggs in the Micro$oft basket. They can't even be bothered to open source their gold src games that are older than me. it's not like id who open sourced doom because John Carmack was convinced by a FOSS advocate and supported Linux cuz y not. Being cool is banned in 2020
@Pigpog Valve doesn't support Linux because of money, they support it so they have a backup if Windows ever gets closed down (or if microsoft abandons it for a new OS). There's no money in Linux gamers. They're 5% of the market (at most, it's probably less than that). Valve's long term future is reliant on SteamOS, they don't care about GNU/Linux - Not in the way Carmack did.
