As someone who spends a ridiculous amount of money on Warhammer, seeing this skin want me to apologize to GW, their most expensive item is 2K which sounds really bad, but you can actually use it for things in person, unlike a digital cosmetic that will most likely be bought by the BIG whales, and for those who can afford to get away with it, this isn't the best way to honor one of the BEST players in the world, its a marketing scam that twitter bots promote

I play Magic the Gathering what is also a super expensive hobby (not as expensive as Warhammer 40k i was told) but 1k for 75 cards to play it is not cheap, but as same as Warhammer its real and the cards are qorth something and then there is a digital cosmetic for 500$...not real just that you r Champ gets another look that looks sooo close to Arcane Ahri😂

In Brazil, the skin costs around R$1400. The minimum wage is R$1600 (may be less with tax discounts). A good internet is around R$100 so... if a normal person buys the skin and pays their the internet... they wouldn't play yet because they wouldn't be able to pay the R$300 energy bill (and let's hope this hypothetical person has a house and don't live in rent). 1/10 is pretty generous lol

In return they could have a 500$ charity campaign you can donate to, in order to get the special kill tracker and those other miscellaneous awards. As a company they could mark the donation to said charity towards their taxes so they pay less and the whole community is happy.

@@schaakakon9473the problem is that this 500 dolars skins are going on and on, rito HATE progress, programing, champions, reworks, all the other areas of the game, skarner costed almost 4 years to get, in 2023 theres was like 4 champs, each time is less rework content, less champ content, just MORE and MORE skins, so if they see this 500 scam being succesfull they will yeet even more programing power for making more dresses, entire lore events ruined because dresses, reworks being hated, champs not well tested, all because they WANT more skins and money, that the part that affect everyone (and no the argument of "they need money" is Bad because at this point they dont need more, and in 2017 and 2018 we had like 8 champs at year and more reworks, and some of the most awesome skins aswell so rito dont need to sacrifice champ or rework power just for skins, THEY WANT do it)
In my country with $500 I could buy myself a new expensive bike, or a one week long vacation, or a new laptop, or new furniture for my room, or like 20 good books. There are so many more better ways of spending 500 dollars. Too bad that people who have enough to not care about them are going to spend them like this

one important thing nicky forgot to mention is that this skin will only be available to purchase for around a month or so, and then it's never going to come back. it's also not going to be in the reroll pool, and you can't refund it because it's part of a non-refundable battle pass bundle. not only is that an insanely scummy way to cash in on FOMO (once you swipe there is literally no going back), but that also means that a skin meant to represent the greatest league player of all time is only gonna be around for a limited time when the idea is that the hall of legends is supposed to commemorate him forever

Thank you for bringing up TFT. As someone who used to get the battle pass every set and mid set (when those were still a thing), I haven't bought one in ages. We went from getting lots of cool arenas, booms and even some free legendary eggs to 70% gacha currency (there are 3 different currencies now) with some extra stuff thrown in.

i always wondered why you always see chinese people in videogames with thousands of dollars worth of cosmetics, considering that they aren't doing particularly well financially. apparently it's part of their culture, the way people in other countries flex their cars or other valuables, china pretty much normalized spending insane amounts of money on virtual stuff to show that you can afford it...If i was a company trying to make as much money as possible, i'd sure as hell try to get them as customers lol

While I agree that the "ban Ahri" protest isn't going to affect Riot directly, that's not the point of it. I'm not going to buy the skin anyways. The most I've ever spent on a single cosmetic item in a game is technically Path of Exile when I bought a $60 supporter pack but PoE, unlike League, ACTUALLY gives you the full same $ dollar value you spent on the pack in additional points to spend on the cosmetic shop. So you get a complete armor skin + a portal (kinda like a recall animation) + $60 worth of points.
No. The point of it is that losers have never been part of anything that actually matters. Thats all there is to it. 99% of people will get bored 1 week in.
Not to mention the thousands of people that actually play ahri without buying the skin, that people dont care about.

The worst part is that it’s, isolated from the price tag, one of ahri’s best skins. If they simply charged a normal legendary amount for the base skin and a normal ultimate amount of the huge bundle, this wouldn’t even be a big discussion

*The main thing people don't understand is that Riot will strip other Legendary skins of their animations to give them to their Gacha variants, like Peacemaker Yone. In the past, Riot would gladly give the base version his wings, but since they had to justify the $200 price, they stripped the base version of some cool animations. This is a fact because the 1820 RP Katarina Legendary skin has animations that rival an Ultimate skin for a lower price. Instead of Riot improving skins in general and making the majority of the player base happy, they decided to ruin skins and make the minority of the player base happy. Simple as that. He can buy whatever he wants, but it's starting a butterfly effect that will ripple throughout this game's history. We saw the same thing in TFT, and now it's happening in League. If it were me, I would give this skin to everybody, for free! Like Annieversary. I mean, that skin is one of the best in the game and it's totally free for everyone. That would be a good way to celebrate the player who NEVER pays for skins. But that's just my opinion.*
In tune with Faker never using skins, you could make the free skin regular Ahri with the same evolve mechanic as the skin now has. You would get away with "lesser value" because it's free

As far as I know, only 3 players out of 200 people from my Ahri-main group chat bought the skin. We don't like the skin that much too.
Every time I see somebody malding over League skins, I remember that Riot permabanned my account with nearly every skin (except couple extra rares) since beta until 2017... because I was trying to buy RP and my VPN broke during transaction. You don't own shit here. I tried to appeal several times with no luck, so I gave up on this game and feel great.
(Yes, you couldn't even buy RP without VPN in my country at these times and I still supported this company, that's how dumb I was)

League of Legends is a free to play game. It is still free to play after this Ahri skin. No one by any means is required to purchase any cosmetics in League of Legends.
I do not understand why people are crying about this, this hard. I have played literal pay to win games where the 'cosmetic' skin gives stats to a character which is super fucked up. This is not a thing in League of Legends.
If you do not like the look of a skin, you don't have to buy it.
If you do not like the price of a skin, you don't have to buy it.
if you do not like the chromas of a skin, you don't have to buy them.
Even if this practice proliferates going forward, who cares? It is simply more garbage I am not required to buy to play League of Legends. 500$ Yone skin? 1,000$ Yasuo skin? Doesn't fucking matter I'm not buying them and moving on. A 2,000$ Lux skin existing that I don't own will have zero impact on my life.
the whole "you don't have to buy it" argument is entirely missing the point of the backlash. people play video games for enjoyment, and part of that enjoyment is purchasing skins to make the characters they play look fancy or cool. nobody HAS to do any of that, but people do it because they feel like it will increase their enjoyment of the game.
what riot is doing with this skin is something called "enshittification" wherein they are purposefully alienating the majority of players in the interest of profit. they are breaking years of precedent (an ultimate skin costing $30) in order to test how much money they can extract from people, which then lays the ground for the more affordable cosmetics to suddenly become more expensive in the future. this is exactly what nickyboi was talking about in reference to tft, where cosmetics were pretty cheap and easy to obtain during the early tft sets, but now have been locked behind gacha systems designed to prey on FOMO.
there was another comment I read on this whole issue recently, where someone pointed out that 1,000 whales buying this skin will make riot 500,000 dollars, but pricing it like every other ultimate skin at 32 dollars will attract way more players to buy it (faker is universally liked, generally speaking) thus putting their potential profits a lot farther above what they're projected to make now.
so yes, nobody is FORCED to buy this skin-- nobody is forced to buy ANY skin-- but people buy in game cosmetics because they want to and because they feel like said skins increase their enjoyment of the game. this whole debacle sets a bad precedent for the future wherein riot will continue to be bolder and bolder, alienating a majority of the people who feel as if they want to get their money's worth out of the products they purchase. this whole backlash was never about necessity, it's about consumer satisfaction and riot's willingness to throw their morals out the window if it means that they'll make a quick buck.

If a skin costs $500 then that skin must come with this things:
-15 chromas
-30 transormation that also changes depending on the chroma(of wich I can choose at anytime)
-new hub
-new spell icons
-new and better item icons
-a new map skin that changes along with the skin itself
-new items that only I can purchase
-500 ap every level.
If it doesen't have AT LEAST this stuff then it's not worth that much.
Imagine if after you bought this skin LoL gets shut down. It's not like a collector's edition that you get something really expensive but that you can handle. You wasted $500 for pixels on your screen that you won't be able to access anymore.

I will admit, the effects are cool, the skin emotes go hard, and yes it was expensive as fuck. They bought the skin not not only for all the emotes, rewards, and other such, they bought it because they read (somewhere I cant find) that some of the profits go to T1/Faker, and they love Faker.
Still, the fact that Faker shushes everytime you emote makes me think of that fucking Goku meme, and just that alone makes the skin worth it. Not a snowballs chance in hell I'm buying it though

Yes. Another 30$ "Legendary" would've been better then a 500$ Epic. Cause not even the features make it Ultimate. The visuals are lame af and was already done better in her Arcana skin. Soul Fighter Samira is the best skin she has and will have, well until her Mythic skin comes out this year (if it even gonna come out and be somewhat better then her Ultimate).

All the champions doesnt have much of a "history", yeah they have some 'lore' and a 'charisma' made for them, but that is pretty much just a "label", cuz the champions itself doesnt go to nowhere, they are in one spot since a big time in their story; in that regard we can say that Pantheon and K'sante, for example, are the same thing, cuz both are warriors who hate gods and just want to protect the people around them, but we dont know much more of that, both doesnt go to anywhere since they release (im not counting LoR or some stuff that is find in some other material that is not League itself, cuz theres no point in trying to made some sense on every character)
All the league characters have one mision, they are just characters, that you can see and play, have fun and thinking about how cool they are, they are the best thing for the League game, but theres not some true narrative behind it (at least in League itself, cuz a biography is kinda nothing)
Riot doesnt need to actually work its characters, because people are just fine with those "label" with a big charisma, they like them; despite the fact that Riot is trying to made some characters a little bit more, like Vi, Jink, Ekko, etc. with the Arcane series, the characters around Viego in the "Ruined King" book or game (or pretty much any characters involve in the Viego's Trouble) or any other "external stuff" that helps, like Sarah Fortune character. But the thing is that this kind of thinks aren't the big focus; Miss Fortune in League is nothing like it would be Sarah fortune and nothing with the characters will affect the game, cuz the game is fine
The new ahri skin is a think made for "special people" who loves Ea sports and want to feel himself like something like that, the amount of Faker fans will maybe bougth the skin even with this absurd price, ahri most big fans (or simps) will buy the skin to see ahri with these important style, cuz ahri just exist and maybe the ahri player will understand that the other legendary skins of her are better, but the Faker fans may doesnt care for ahri, but for Faker; they want to feel like Faker somehow, they respect Faker, they wanna be like Faker. By using those feeling, Riot can bet to the chance to made this marketing strategy works, cuz some people actually "loves" Faker as a person, they probably doesnt talk to him or meet him, but they are able to know him in some degree...

Ahri is my favorite champion, and skins are something that I love and the reason why I'm still playing. But now, with this skin, everything has changed. I don't want to play Ahri, I don't want to buy more skins, I don't want to play this stupid game. I wouldn't have imagined that a skin would make me go from loving a game to hating it.

The $50 skin is the real skin. Its the closest to default, so its closet to what Faker would use while also having all the T1 colors. The other bundles were designed for whales anyway so I don't really feel bad not getting them. The event itself is cool and the event bundle is good so all in all I dont really care.
As for TFT, I dont care about cosmetic prices there. Part of that is just because I rarely play it, but its mainly because my favorite skins are the free sprite ones you get each season.
