I'm not mad at more melee champs finally joining Camille in the coven, I am however disappointed at how unimaginative Akali and Elise were. Akali as a witch that casts darkness and flays her enemies, working in the animal skull themes to maybe wear a beak in place of her ninja mask or something could have been really stunning and genuinely dark and fashionable, but unsurprisingly they just picked the most polished and bland concept. And Elise is frankly giving paintbrush spider, it's an exceptionally basic design and I would've personally really liked to see the spider give Old God vibes like Warwick did, being made of leaves, metal, and rock, but given that she already has 2 'flower spider' skins I suppose they wanted to step away from the Elderwood core thematic, which begs the question - why even pick her?

A modder already accomplished that 2 years ago. I am a very happy Nami main. I have been wanting a Legendary for years, but I never posted about it on any forums, nor did I scream and yell at riot about it. I was just waiting patiently and hoping for the best. I wouldn't have minded if Syndra got the Legendary either.

I got the skin and I think it sounds a lot more believable in-game than just the ripped voice lines tbh, and the voice lines were my only real issue with the skin at first. I’d say many of them are too long though

As a Rell main, you didn’t see all three of us start throwing death threats at rioters when Rell ended up in SG instead of high noon, which was the skinline put out RIGHT BEFORE SG. Sometimes you get what you get and you don't through a fit.

But if Taliyah, Yorick, and Ornn player's asking nicely gives them nothing but a middle finger and 5 minute adjustments while sending death threats gives seraphine and friends whole new skins.... well at that point they're just encouraging it.
It literally happened with Pentakill Lost Chapter Yorick's hat. People asked them to either keep it or just make it into a toggle, since Yorick wears it in his recall, and Riot essentially said "No, lmaoooo"

My favorite part about this controversy. Whenever we bring up the harassment and how it's never ok to send death threats there's a small community that have a need to insert themselves and relentlessly defend themselves saying that they're were genuinely sharing there criticisms and that the death threats meant nothing but a small minority. Even though it takes less than 5 seconds to understand that if anyone wasnt harrassing and just sharing their thoughts and criticisms respectful aren't the ones we are talking about it and just because you weren't involve in the problem doesnt nullify the general issues and it doesnt detract acutall meaningful criticisms. 4:48 this is what happens when you do lack of research. The Coven designer Riot Stellari said Syndra was the inspiration for whole Coven skinline and she was saving her for legendary in future but she left Riot due to mistreatment. Syndra as Scarlet Witch as legendary was the whole point.
Both true damage and K/DA already mimic the effects of street demons without the lore. It would be redundant to make a third street thug skin of Akali that looks and feels the exact same way. Her coven skin does not dip deeper into the dark nitty gritty of the coven lore and barely scratches it in appearance. Meanwhile the prestige makes her look like she's from the battle academy universe with the bright colors on the jacket and her hair.
On the topic of champions with two skins in the same universe, the coven universe has it very very bad. They've shoved omen of the dark, elderwood, death blossom, coven, old god and eclipse (i might be forgetting even more) into the same universe, and champions like ahri, leblanc, elise, kayle, nocturne, etc. all have multiple skins in this universe by now. This one universe makes up roughly 4% of all of the skins in league, iirc
heh I think it fits tbqh, the only odd one out would be death blossom. It's basically an epic tale of witch hunt and all of it being kept in the book Spectral Fiddle is keeping.

Through a lot of discussion, I have found something VERY funny. Akali and Briar… should have swapped skins. If they need to fill the Akali Quota, put her in street demons, make them more splotchy and messy with the paints and the skinline would have sold like hot cakes. Briar in Coven as a Witch or a ghoul created to harvest energy? It was written in the stars!
Even tho i (and arguably the 90% of Akali players as well) dind't think of Akali as a fitting champ for a Coven skinline, it's the same argument but reverse as the Syndra fits into it and deserves a legendary in the thematic... and you said to it something like "Syndra doesn't deserve a legendary only because you think she fits in it" ?
As a syndra main and a nami main I’m super happy about the nami skin, I don’t keep up with league news or anything so it was an awesome surprise! Of course I’m still waiting for a syndra legendary skin but til then I’ll be using star guardian, tho ngl most her skins are kinda basic oops
Honestly, I loved Nami Coven, but what I want is an Elderwood or Old God Legendary, both are still part of the Eclipse universe, it's sad to see only the Knights and Covens winning, but I'm happy if they still at least continue to win something like Karthus and Wukong this year. Although in the end they will end up making Lux or Sera the Legendary of Elderwood...
The Akali one is such a mess... But I can sort of see the idea of a vampire coven witch skin totally working for her, if her dashs changed her to look like a shadowy vampire demon flying at you, and her shurkins and kunai were replaced with magic bolts.. and they atleast gave her a voice fliter to make her sound more eerie.

The MAIN issue i see (or notice imo) is that riot JUST responds to harassment (IM NOT IN FAVOR); but today vandril uploaded 2 champ breaking bugs that were on PBE and mentioned, yet they didnt care, but something like this, there are posts on posts from tons of rioters. At the start of the year they wanted more clarity, and i feel that went down a drain again. People just see what works and lizard brain it when OBVIOUSLY its not the way to do anything
Harassing devs is a problem, but so is the fact it takes harassing devs to get anything done at all, if a big stink isn't raised about something then Riot will just ignore it, we see the same thing with other huge companies like RUclips or Activision Blizzard, giant companies only react to negative stimuli and that's a fact.
Ignoring the completely crazy Syndra mains acting like anyone DESERVES A COSMETIC, I get the critic that Syndra really fit the skinline perfectly. Riot just... doesnt care. Coven Akali fits the general aesthetic of the Coven skin-line, but I do agree that the Prestige version (which should be inspired by and loosely linked to the skin-line) is not remotely Coven in the slightest. It feels more like a Crime City Nightmare or Broken Covenant prestige than a Coven one.

Nami main here - this was a wild rollercoaster of emotions. From shock and wishing the leak was wrong, to maximum hype to see lots of passion put into the skin, as well as the Sea Witch nods and the *freaking Leviathan*. Wanted a dragon skinline (Dragonmancer is LoR-only so far 🙃) or Shan Hai Scrolls for her first legendary, but Coven surprised me in a very good way! Can't negate that all the chaos soured the hype though... Syndra could've been an amazing Coven legendary too.
Something i want to see in a future coven return is either coven Aurelion sol or coven rek’sai as the leviathan that Nami worships. Personally i think it would be really cool

This "ursala siren thingy" she can get the same theme from crime city nightmare or Nightbringer while Coven Syndra got anticipated due to Scarlet Witch especially after Multiverse of Madness. Syndra would bring so much to Coven lore as an prophesied Witch that against both Coven and Knights while Nami is just another witch.
Evelynn's Coven legendary is heavily similar to her base and it still ended up being amazing. I think legendaries can reevaluate and expand some traits a character already has there's nothing wrong with choosing safer and obvious options, if anything we need that because Riot has been doing questionable shit lately.
Ever since Necrit referenced Rell in his video covering the Coven situation I would've loved to see Rell in Coven with a scary bone horse. It would make sense too given her lance making her look like a knight and would connect her to Morde's creepy walking bone armor he's got going on. I imagine Morde would be her patron god in that universe.
While I agree the Syndra legendary was never promised and people weren't entitled to it, Riot was very aware of the expectations people had. And I think the reasons they're so mad are: 1, the epic skin is bad even when compared to other epics, and 2, the epic skin means the legendary will never, ever happen. They'd be less angry if she hadn't gotten. A skin at all and they could still dream of the legendary one day. And while the behavior of some Syndra mains was deplorable and cannot be excused, we also need to acknowledge that for while Riot's MO has been to keep silent and leave the developers to be the ones bracing the reaction from the community, and that's deplorable too. In general, I think there were so many things that could've been done to avoid this whole thing, ND when the two weeks are up and the skin barely changes things will get even worse.

Barely any effects on ult or passive, if her old god is morde then where is the symbolism. They added weird orbs that look like dirty poros and called it a day. For the amount of anticipation for a legendary I was expecting this to at least be the best epic in this batch not the worst…
We Pyke mains have been eating mad good for a long time so my perspective might be a bit skewed but damn! Even though we arguably got too much attention, the war between these goobers has kinda just made me glad we haven't had to suffer the same fate. The coven skinline has never been too big a thing for me so I'm relatively indifferent to these buuut Mordekaiser is really fucking cool.
I love this skinline so much, so seeing this dumb controversy (with Syndra, one of my favorite champs to play and design wise) hurts me. Like, yeah, she would've been cool as a legendary, but, well, wasn't meant to be. And yeah, most of my favorite champs in the top 3 don't have legendaries (Pantheon, Warwick, Quinn, Syndra and Aurelion Sol, the only one that has is Ahri). But that means that I'll just have to wait a bit more and usually that pays off (except if you are a Samira main)

Morgana is my favorite coven skin along with Eve, and Mordekaiser. I won’t use any chromas as base fits the theme best. . Nami looks good and while I feel Syndra should have gotten the legendary, Nami benefits more (an epic coven Nami’s voice and mermaid model would not have fit the theme).

I am a very happy Nami main. I have been wanting a Legendary for years, but I never posted about it on any forums, nor did I scream and yell at riot about it. I was just waiting patiently and hoping for the best. I wouldn't have minded if Syndra got the Legendary either.

My favorite part about this controversy.
Whenever we bring up the harassment and how it's never ok to send death threats there's a small community that have a need to insert themselves and relentlessly defend themselves saying that they're were genuinely sharing there criticisms and that the death threats meant nothing but a small minority.
Even though it takes less than 5 seconds to understand that if anyone wasnt harrassing and just sharing their thoughts and criticisms respectful aren't the ones we are talking about it and just because you weren't involve in the problem doesnt nullify the general issues and it doesnt detract acutall meaningful criticisms.

The Coven designer Riot Stellari said Syndra was the inspiration for whole Coven skinline and she was saving her for legendary in future but she left Riot due to mistreatment. Syndra as Scarlet Witch as legendary was the whole point.
Both true damage and K/DA already mimic the effects of street demons without the lore. It would be redundant to make a third street thug skin of Akali that looks and feels the exact same way. Her coven skin does not dip deeper into the dark nitty gritty of the coven lore and barely scratches it in appearance. Meanwhile the prestige makes her look like she's from the battle academy universe with the bright colors on the jacket and her hair.
On the topic of champions with two skins in the same universe, the coven universe has it very very bad. They've shoved omen of the dark, elderwood, death blossom, coven, old god and eclipse (i might be forgetting even more) into the same universe, and champions like ahri, leblanc, elise, kayle, nocturne, etc. all have multiple skins in this universe by now. This one universe makes up roughly 4% of all of the skins in league, iirc

Through a lot of discussion, I have found something VERY funny. Akali and Briar… should have swapped skins. If they need to fill the Akali Quota, put her in street demons, make them more splotchy and messy with the paints and the skinline would have sold like hot cakes. Briar in Coven as a Witch or a ghoul created to harvest energy? It was written in the stars!

Honestly, I loved Nami Coven, but what I want is an Elderwood or Old God Legendary, both are still part of the Eclipse universe, it's sad to see only the Knights and Covens winning, but I'm happy if they still at least continue to win something like Karthus and Wukong this year.

But I can sort of see the idea of a vampire coven witch skin totally working for her, if her dashs changed her to look like a shadowy vampire demon flying at you, and her shurkins and kunai were replaced with magic bolts.. and they atleast gave her a voice fliter to make her sound more eerie.

Great video; but on the controversy topic. The MAIN issue i see (or notice imo) is that riot JUST responds to harassment (IM NOT IN FAVOR); but today vandril uploaded 2 champ breaking bugs that were on PBE and mentioned, yet they didnt care, but something like this, there are posts on posts from tons of rioters. At the start of the year they wanted more clarity, and i feel that went down a drain again. People just see what works and lizard brain it when OBVIOUSLY its not the way to do anything
I think Syndra would have worked better honestly. I guess the one thing holding it back is she looks fairly close to her normal coloring
Harassing devs is a problem, but so is the fact it takes harassing devs to get anything done at all, if a big stink isn't raised about something then Riot will just ignore it, we see the same thing with other huge companies like RUclips or Activision Blizzard, giant companies only react to negative stimuli and that's a fact.
Ignoring the completely crazy Syndra mains acting like anyone DESERVES A COSMETIC, I get the critic that Syndra really fit the skinline perfectly. Riot just... doesnt care. They showed again and again that they rather do repetitive products for the sake of doing it regardless if they fit the universe or not. In this very SAME skinline you have damn COVEN AKALI, with TWO skins, NEITHER who look like Coven.
Its more about a complain about Riot in general instead of about this skinline
Coven Akali fits the general aesthetic of the Coven skin-line, but I do agree that the Prestige version (which should be inspired by and loosely linked to the skin-line) is not remotely Coven in the slightest. It feels more like a Crime City Nightmare or Broken Covenant prestige than a Coven one.

Nami main here - this was a wild rollercoaster of emotions. From shock and wishing the leak was wrong, to maximum hype to see lots of passion put into the skin, as well as the Sea Witch nods and the *freaking Leviathan*. Wanted a dragon skinline (Dragonmancer is LoR-only so far 🙃) or Shan Hai Scrolls for her first legendary, but Coven surprised me in a very good way!
Can't negate that all the chaos soured the hype though... Syndra could've been an amazing Coven legendary too.

Evelynn's Coven legendary is heavily similar to her base and it still ended up being amazing. I think legendaries can reevaluate and expand some traits a character already has there's nothing wrong with choosing safer and obvious options, if anything we need that because Riot has been doing questionable shit lately.
Ever since Necrit referenced Rell in his video covering the Coven situation I would've loved to see Rell in Coven with a scary bone horse. It would make sense too given her lance making her look like a knight and would connect her to Morde's creepy walking bone armor he's got going on. I imagine Morde would be her patron god in that universe.

While I agree the Syndra legendary was never promised and people weren't entitled to it, Riot was very aware of the expectations people had.
And I think the reasons they're so mad are: 1, the epic skin is bad even when compared to other epics, and 2, the epic skin means the legendary will never, ever happen. They'd be less angry if she hadn't gotten. A skin at all and they could still dream of the legendary one day.
And while the behavior of some Syndra mains was deplorable and cannot be excused, we also need to acknowledge that for while Riot's MO has been to keep silent and leave the developers to be the ones bracing the reaction from the community, and that's deplorable too.
In general, I think there were so many things that could've been done to avoid this whole thing, ND when the two weeks are up and the skin barely changes things will get even worse.
Exactly like i was upset that she didn’t a legendary oh well maybe she will for an upcoming new skin line, I’ll just take the epic but when you look at the epic it’s completely lackluster. Barely any effects on ult or passive, if her old god is morde then where is the symbolism. They added weird orbs that look like dirty poros and called it a day. For the amount of anticipation for a legendary I was expecting this to at least be the best epic in this batch not the worst…

I love this skinline so much, so seeing this dumb controversy (with Syndra, one of my favorite champs to play and design wise) hurts me. Like, yeah, she would've been cool as a legendary, but, well, wasn't meant to be.
And yeah, most of my favorite champs in the top 3 don't have legendaries (Pantheon, Warwick, Quinn, Syndra and Aurelion Sol, the only one that has is Ahri). But that means that I'll just have to wait a bit more and usually that pays off (except if you are a Samira main)
In my personal opinion, Nami’s voice being so cute actually adds to the character, she tries to be this intimidating and imposing witch, but she’s trying too hard and that’s fun
As an Akali user I’m particularly pissed that she got the prestige, if they have given the prestige to Syndra the drama would have been reduced (which b4 you say she already has star guardian, Akali has KDA )
True also giving Syndra a lore update or ASU would have made this 0 drama but Riot refuses and "Syndra is a very powerful character so we not gonna update her unless she supports a big event like Ruination" so our hope to get new voicelines and animations is only through legendary 😢

Morgana is my favorite coven skin along with Eve, and Mordekaiser. I won’t use any chromas as base fits the theme best. . Nami looks good and while I feel Syndra should have gotten the legendary, Nami benefits more (an epic coven Nami’s voice and mermaid model would not have fit the theme).
