Correction: at 4:42, it was stated these had a crank-driven power steering pump, and one can be run without the power steering pump. However, we were unaware at the time that this engine was never equipped with a crank-driven pump from the factory. Early 1958 engines (This one was manufactured October 1957) had belt-driven pumps, as did 1959-60 Thunderbirds, and presumably, Mercurys. That is why that bracket on the front exists, and why the crank pulley has an extra groove on the front of it not seen in other examples (3 grooves vs. 2). If one chooses to delete the crank-driven pump, they must install the spacer that this particular engine, as well as Thunderbirds, were factory equipped with, as the pump acts as both a sealing surface for the front main seal, and a spacer so the front crank pulley can be correctly spaced from the front of the engine. We will go into further detail in the rebuild videos.
Also, apologies for forgetting to mention the Super Marauder!

I'm a huge fan of these large and obscure Ford V8s.

The old MEL engines are way cool. Just found this channel any updates on that engine?

May be getting it back from the machine shop soon. Had to be bored .030" over. We cleaned up a lot of other parts, though, so once it's back, reassembly should be a breeze, relatively speaking.

    Did you rebuild it?

In the process... may be receiving it back from the machine shop soon. It had to be bored .030" over and it was so bad, the old pistons had to be hit out with an air hammer!
