I met Tupac when I was about 10. It was in LA on the beach, doing a photo shoot with suge Knight and a bunch of models. Shared 3 minutes with him, got his autograph and snapped two Polaroid pictures. He had a loving presence, he was full of energy and life. Three minutes that's all I shared with him and hearing his music to this day makes tears run on occasion. He was one of a kind.... Truly

Im 37 now, and i remember the day that my mom sat me down when i was about 9 and told me that Tupac had been killed. I cried, and my mom actually teared up. Im a suburban white kid whose parents were in the legal profession and even they felt the loss, and knew i liked his music. My mother has always loved the song "Dear Momma." They even surprised me with a fake birthday card from Dr. DRE, when i was 10. Great parents. Later in life i met Tupac's Mom's lawyer in school, and she took a liking to me and gifted me a book that had replica copies of his notes and letters to friends, ideas of his for businesses. And every now and then i will pull it out and thumb through it. At a young age from that sad scenario of Pac losing his life so young, i learned the tragedy of lost potential. Look for greatness in unlikely places, people.

Im 37 now, and i remember the day that my mom sat me down when i was about 9 and told me that Tupac had been killed. I cried, and my mom actually teared up. Im a suburban white kid whose parents were in the legal profession and even they felt the loss, and knew i liked his music. My mother has always loved the song "Dear Momma."
They even surprised me with a fake birthday card from Dr. DRE, when i was 10. Great parents. Later in life i met Tupac's Mom's lawyer in school, and she took a liking to me and gifted me a book that had replica copies of his notes and letters to friends, ideas of his for businesses. And every now and then i will pull it out and thumb through it.
At a young age from that sad scenario of Pac losing his life so young, i learned the tragedy of lost potential.
Look for greatness in unlikely places, people.
It was a family affair for my family as well. My siblings, my mom, and even my DAD watched the news confirming it, and we all mourned that night. Never forget it! Huge hole in the world without Pac.

the way Dennis Quaid was able to see and experience Tupacs soul tells you a lot about him too. Most great actors have this heightened level of empathy and can really see a person for who they truly are. And it takes one to know one, so Dennis must be a real artist too.

He became more popular after he died. Had he lived, he might not have attained the status he now enjoys as one of the greatest. Maybe he might have. We don't know.
My older brothers were always up to date with the rap scene those days and would buy the albums soon as they'd be released.
Those days, breaking news xarriwd more weight than it does today.. so of course it was big news when he died, it's actually often big news when celebrities die. He had been a controversial figure. Especially Pacs death because it was one of the 1st high profile rap deaths as a result of rap feuds. Those days, there were many rap beefs, from before Tupac began rapping, it was a part of the culture, however, around his time they started to escalate, and once hit em up became a hit track it elevated he and Biggie to become the latest poster children for East vs West (a long standing beef since before their time).
But he wasn't a legend yet. Even though he starred his career at 17, it had just started to take off in a meaningful way. Actually, Dre and Ice Cube were bigger rappers at that point in time (they were the legends before Pac and Biggie because they were the OGs)
But after his death, he became immortalised and a legend. He became a bigger star than he ever was. Even the rap fans who hadn't paid much attention to his music began paying attention. His movies, which had been mediocre at the time, became classics. His death cemented his mark as one of the greatest.

Pac wasn’t filthy rich. There was no money in rap in the 90’s and Suge was ripping his artists off. He was on the verge of making big money prior to his death with a distribution deal which seems real coincidental. The feds were watching Pac the night he died and did nothing about because they were in on it
MAN ... Dennis has always been one of my favorite actors. Still watch 'Parent Trap' with my Daughter. At least once a month. I always wished had a Dad like him ... and then he makes me cry all these years later with this story.
