    Thank you, you're a life saver! Always love cooking over a wood fire, but was always afraid to run out of fire and have to stop and start...your layers of heat method I will never forget! Thanks again!

    As a South African, I was rather amused watching the American take on what we refer to as a 'braai' (pronounce it like bride but with a silent d). We don't cook vegetables on the open fire like that, but if we had to, we'd make a new fire again for the steak as a steak must have a very hot fire. The wood must be freshly burnt to embers and then the steak is placed on the grill to cook. 4 minutes per side and you're done. Any longer than an 8 minute cook time will take the meat to overcooked. Aim for about 125 degrees F internal temperature for a nice medium-rare.

      @@CertifiedAngusBeefTestKitchen any chance you’d share a link to the “cheap camping grilling grate” you’re using in this video? Just ordered one from Amazon but seems way too small

    Love open fire cooking and love everything you have done here! Great setup for some quick grilling. Only thing I would do is soak your corn in water before you put it in the coals. It helps create a more even cook on the corn by having it steam much longer. Subscribed!

    I’m curious what you used for your base to support the grill grates. I’m having a difficult time finding a base that would accommodate grates like that. Thanks for any suggestions

    How long on each side for steaks

  • @AntAntL
    @AntAntL 3 года назад +2

    Nice setup, but I do have some comments. I think the top of the base is too low. I sometimes cook food for 3 to 5 hours on an open flame, and squatting for that cooking duration has to suck. Brining that cooking grill about 2 feet higher would be ideal. I am not a fan of the bricks your using. I bet they are affordable, but putting firebricks would help with heat retention and ultimately the cooking process. Firebricks are not that much more expensive than the bricks your using now. Adding a riser or lifting grill (santa maria grill) would do wonders for your setup. Otherwise, good vid.
