But, while it was still complicated, there actually was no reason to re-enter that pipe - you CAN ground pound with the shoe even with the block hit. Just go left to avoid the fish, then you have just enough vertical space to pound.

If the state is not swapped the shell won't bounce up and kill the pokies, instead they will bounce up as their mushroom platforms are activated now and block the way. Therefore, they are too high to jump over, preventing the cheese.

If you're going to give your level a dev route at least don't rush right through it. Wait a decent amount of time so it at least looks like you did your own level ligit, ffs.
Comparing music and MM2 levels in a one to one fashion isn't realistic in the first place but I'll still bite. It all boils down to the fact that sampling something in a transformative manner is entirely different than taking other peoples ideas and passing them off as your own. A SMB 1-1 clone is boring and bad, but a SMB 1-1 clone with a twist can be interesting if you actually use your own ideas to put an interesting spin on it.
Are dev routes that bad? Some people are better at creating levels but can’t clear themselves. Hence the dev route allows them to still upload. If they cared then they would just take extra time to clear so people don’t notice a dev route by the clear check time.
This is my stance as well. Just need to acknowledge that there are also plenty of lazy creators that don't test their levels to make sure they're clearable at all, but since the dev path exists, it can still be cleared. Also, unless they do some sort of convoluted system to lock it, the clear time will show it, and then the challenge fight amongst the community for its world record is moot, because the dev path will always be better except in those specific circumstances.
People feel that if you aren't able to beat your own level then you shouldn't be uploading it. If you can't beat your own levels then why should you expect other people to?

That sort of mentality just comes across as, "If you want me to deign to suffer through your level, you have to suffer through it too" when applied as overly-broadly as people tend to (rather than focus it just on crappily-designed levels and encouraging proper testing even with dev routes), and that's just petty as shit. Hell, some of the great troll levels featured in GDQ have been made with involved dev routes that were fun to discover and use in their own right (unlike the hidden block staircase into a door right to the end, which is terribly dull).
The reason you have to redo the whole thing from cp1->cp2->back to cp1 part is because everything was stolen troll setups and the creator wasn't clever enough to put in something like a red coin under cp1 setup to turn it into a real cp3.
