My wife and I own a 2108 M3P with FSD and an infinity SUV. A few days ago, I sold the Infinity and purchased a new 2024 MY AWD and was shocked that during the Tesla purchase process it asked me if I wanted to transfer FSD from the M3 to the new MY! I thought I would have to trade in the M3 to get the transfer offer but that was not the case! Nice to see Tesla allowing owners to keep FSD as they move forward with newer Tesla cars.

@@luiscordontorres9813 Well, I had a great running 2018 Model 3 too and then decided to upgrade to a new 2023 Model Y Performance with the free (Per Elon one time only), FSD transfer. In my case the Model Y is better for me, easier to get in and out of, more room, power hatch, HW4 camera's and Matrix headlights. I put 18" wheels on it to get better range that was lost by going with the Performance version. With both vehicles I got the $7,500 tax credit but missed out on the State rebate this time around.

I’m a Tesla owner who started paying for the FSD subscription for Uber. My passengers loved it and it was a good way to introduce the system to them. However, someone hit my car and it’s now in the shop for 1.5 months. I’m renting a Tesla from Hertz to continue doing Uber, but it doesn’t have FSD and even though I can control the car with my app, I cannot purchase any subscription. So now, it’s boring not being able to show FSD to my customers. Tesla Uber drivers are out there and we give the best feedback to our passengers who are thinking about buying a Tesla, we should be able to subscribe in these rentals.
Does Tesla offer monthly subscription?

In fact, as I understand it, it’s a month-to-month subscription, meaning you don’t have to renew every month or be locked in like these phone companies do. So there’s no long-term contracts, it’s a simple opt in or opt out whenever you want. Cheers 🥂

The way I read the latest FSD transfer rules, you can transfer FSD to a new car and KEEP your existing car. So, you could have your old car without FSD to give to your child or whatever.
Yes, get the m3 performance and produce several videos. Since 2018, m3 has received numerous improvements. You deserve it.

I agree with PJ keep 2018 M3. If you want the refreshed M3 for content creation just do like other youtubers and rent one from Turo short term. Cars are a depreciating asset your money would be better off investing it in TSLA stock instead!

Good video, thanks! Kim, probably stick with what your husband said. You can rent a new Tesla Model 3 AWD for a week, do a review and still have no car payment, then your son can have a tried and true car in two years. You can save and invest that money and get yourself in an even better financial state. Also, you can post content on how the 2018 Model 3 is doing, for prospective EV buyers 🙂 It could be a long term type of thing, and that frees you up to try renting other EVs from time to time and posting content as you see fit. I’m super excited about airless tires. I hope they succeed! Also regarding Fisker, companies have come out of bankruptcy before…GM is a good example and they are doing well now.

Great video, Kim and PJ. The refinement is just so great seeing the evolution of the channel. 🎉 Also, I get PJ’s conservatism on replacing the 2018, but at the same time (not just all the other improvements), HW4 might be a big difference in your driving experience since you have FSD transfer window open and since Elon hasn’t even turned on full HW4 capabilities yet.
I'm new to FSD. Is it normal that it doesn't work at night and it stops too late? My MYLR waits too long to stop so it's pretty jarring. And, I took a road trip and FSD wouldn't work at night because it said it was too dark in the cabin.
if there is a bug, how do you report it? after the update the charge port kept closing right away after opening so i have to quickly insert the charger. however it basically closes onto the charger itself and i don’t want it to break
Use your hand to push on the charge port door and it will open.
For the cameras and sunglasses part. I think that if the camera can see your eyes with your sunglasses on than it shouldn’t go back to the pulling of the steering. But if it can’t than do it.
Some of the used Teslas come with FSD, is that also transferrable or you had to buy it as an add on to a new car or used one that didn't come with it?
I would buy the 2024 refreshed M3, transfer FSD to it, and keep the 2018.

I manage our house finances and 100 % understand where the husband is coming from. At the same time, this is an opportunity to transfer FSD to a new model touted as significantly better plus the wife will be happy and this is very important for a happy life. Happy wife, happy life. Waiting for HDW5 does not appear to have any short term value. Tesla appears to be focused on install base and available data. Apparently HDW4 data has had limited amount of data processed so far until Austin data center is finished.

I think AI5 will address a whole new business dealing in distributed inference engine solutions. This could provide a fully distributed data center to provide a new capability with FSD as a secondary capability that comes along for the ride (sorry for the pun).😊😊😊

As far as upgrading to a performance model 3, transferring FSD, it's tough call since you two only know your finances.
For my wife and I, we decided to wait to upgrade and for us, it's a write-off as well. We are real estate brokers and write off our vehicles along with depreciation on our taxes.
We decided to wait a year since so much is happening in the EV world. Our cars are new or newer and paid for.
Always like paying cash for a car, then wrapping this into gross taxable income to reduce that to a much lower net taxable income.
Delayed gratification for us.
However, the Model 3 performance may help your channel???

NO sunglasses? Ugh! Even SuperCruise and BlueCruise don't have that limitation. Nor does my HDA II, but it does require NON-polarized sunglasses to see the heads up display. You know that I already "upgraded" but in a different direction. I DO lust for bidrectional charging. When and if there is a solid EVSE system capable of it, I would swap my HDWC for one.
I’ve got used to the 12.3.6 “nag” in the week I’ve had my Tesla. I just changed my hands position to resting on the lower part of the wheel. I and my wife no longer get any nags and I don’t even have to think about it. In sunshine, I like driving with sunglasses, so eye tracking, when it comes with 12.4.x, is not much of a benefit to me. I do want a bunch of problems with 12.3.6, they are very annoying and sometimes are takeovers for safety issues.
My newest car is a 2008 and my oldest car is a 1991. 🤷🏼♂️
I absolutely will have an Optimus Robot in my home. I will also purchase the Michelin tires shown as soon as they become available to the general public. As for FSD, I thrive on utilizing the current FSD Supervised in my 2023 Tesla Model Y Long Range AWD which certainly needs improvements and look forward to thev10X version. Tesla is 5-8 years ahead of all the European and Chinese Electric Car/Truck manufacturers and Light Years ahead of GM, FORD and especially STELLANTIS. I am extremely excited in getting the Cybertruck Dual Motor I originally ordered back on July 2020 which may be awhile before it's available.
I don’t need a robot around the house to give me nightmares. There’s just not enough work around to do to make it worth it. What am I going to do, just sit around all day eating cooking and nursing back pain from obesity and inactivity?

the new tires was introduced several years ago. I like the idea, it is estimated to last 3x longer. However, there still are two issue. long distance tire will heat up and road noise.
You could do a whole series of videos about a new Tesla from a technological standpoint, and regular use over an extended period of time perspective. It can be challenging to stay relevant to one of the most followed EV‘s meaning Tesla without having something that reflects their latest technology. The savings on the Full Self-Driving being forwarded to a new Tesla is substantial, and the 15 K difference probably would be eliminated just from keeping your podcast competitive. There should be a substantial tax deduction for a new Tesla beyond the rebate because you would be using it for work as part of your podcast. The discussion format is highly informative, and compelling to watch. Albeit, although you have other settings for different videos, I think there needs to be more actual on the road videos of driving a Tesla.
Continue with upgrades so that we can keep seeing your guises videos as well as new content on how Tesla is progressing

we have FSD subscription and tried without it and now we cannot… cannot wait for hands free. just the amount of stress and physical energy driving needs is huge… we would rather use that personal energy to more productive use (like work, family time and exercise)
Is the robot production under Tesla or a different company?
With FSD 12.3.6 the steering wheel nag is much less nagging if you are watching the road. Last night when I was out driving, the nag would let me go between 2 and 3 miles before it mentioned anything. In order to get this performance, I have to watch the road. I fully expect that V12.4.x falling back to the steering wheel nag is going to be the same as V12.3.6. FSD Drivers, please pay attention!
There are long stretches of freeway were I don't need to make any interventions but there are many places (including near my home) where I have to intervene every time in order to get through intersections or road sections smoothly (or at all in a few cases). I have my doubts V12.4.2 is going to fix all these problems even through I've reported them all several times.

The sun glasses are dependant on type, I have Poleriod and I can see my eyes in the mirror, FSD should work fine for hands-off FSD so it all depends on the sunglasses type.

It’s not out for public release yet but hopefully this month. 12.4.2 looks good so far.
If you’ve got a family to support, then keep the old Tesla running. I’ve got a 2013 Model S with lifetime free supercharging, premium connectivity, and no monthly payments. Saving my money for kids’ college fund. 😊

You are better off upgrading it , it helps your channel , you can write it off on your taxes , reset your warranty clock, and if you can still transfer your FSD, it will be a no-brainer. Go for it.

I think they'll sell the hardware at cost then charge a connectivity and software maintenance subscription at a substantial cost. This is for both Robotaxi and Optimus.
I think the AI5 is being made to support Tesla's version of AWS. When the car is not being driven or used as Robotaxi it will be providing compute for a huge networked AI processing service. AIAAS?
