***update** There is a faster and easier way to do this now make sure to check it out here. However it is somewhat limited. ruclips.net/video/fcvEMBA-fpA/видео.htmlsi=mVNI5w9ZbYKJ7ei4 So keep this videos technique in your back pocket if you need something more versatile and flexible. Also you can do this same technique with other textures, not just gradients!
Thank you so much for an easy-to-follow tutorial. The results came out great. One thing I did find is that if you are trying to do a textured background (say, a seamless pattern or whatever) instead of a gradient, the background remover gets confused. But for a gradient -- simply marvelous and something I'll be using a LOT!!
You're welcome Julia! Yeah may not work all the time for something like a textured graphic and it may be best to use frames for those kinds of things or create your own frames. I was hoping when Canva made all the updates a few months ago that they would make text gradients an option. I'm sure in time they will add it. Appreciate the support and feedback!
THANK YOU!!! I found your video months ago to use this effect for a project. I just went to do an update and couldn't remember the last steps. Googled and your vid popped back up and got me though. SO EASY! Thanks for making a really useful hack super easy to accomplish and understand. :)
great tutorial, useful for book covers. Canva's BG remover didn't do a great job at it when I tried, so I used photopea instead as there is more control over what gets selected with that. Everything else works as you demonstrated
I even used this to make a “gradient” text from a picture of an onyx stone to form a logo idea for my marketing firm. Works beautifully most of the time lol
This did not work, I have canva pro and once I uploaded the PNG canva would not erase the BG. I got an error message pop up that says canva can not detect background.
I followed your tutorial to a T, but every time I try to remove the background at the end, it says "background not detected." Any workarounds you might suggest?
I wouldn't see why not? You would just have to use a Chrome texture instead of the gradient and follow the same process. There are also pre-made chrome text sets in elements so be sure to check there too 👍
I have followed everything you have done, but I've realised when i remove the background, the letter at the beginning always has a corner almost smudged or bitten off it seems, its so weird. It doesn't come out normal. So lets say i did the text Race … the R would have the corner of the letter smudged or slightly indented and it really is noticeable. I am creating a logo.
Hi Ahmad, that's very peculiar as I've never experienced that before. My initial thought is that it might be happening when you use the background remover. Try a bold font and make it really big so you can see for sure and it can also be that the gradient you are using isn't a good fit. Let me know how it goes.
@@MonzonMedia What I've realised is you need to have a much bigger template when doing this. Logo template or anything smaller you will run Into issues.
hey! so for the removing background step (the free version) it just removed the gradient background for me and not the text's itself. is there any solution to that?
You might have to try another gradient, or saturate the Color more and give it some contrast. Alternatively you can use the other background removers linked in the description.
You’re welcome however it’s an old video and it’s easier to do now! Just type gradient in the apps and you’ll see a new app that creates gradients faster and easier. I’ve been meaning to update this video 😊
You're sssooooo welcome! Not sure why they haven't added this yet but I'm not complaining as this video is getting views! hehehehe! Thanks for taking the time to comment. 👍
Hey there! You just have to click on the image, click on effects (FX), there is an option to called BG remover. click that then volia! ☺ Let me know if you need anything else. 👍
with all the text effexts they offer and no graident? EVERY graphics program has a gradient text option. Its a good tut, but wow the work involved for something that should be really a click and drag. Thanks for sharing your knowledge!
Right? When they announced all the new stuff a few months ago, I was expecting gradient text to be one of the new features but here we are! hahaha! Hopefully soon! And you're welcome, always glad to help. 👍
I will sub to you. Since I do chat gpt and I asked for shop app about wording and color it suggested yellow and blue. the blue as in the font color and the yellow as a background. interesting video.
You're very welcome LaToya! Glad to hear it was helpful and I appreciate the support! Be sure to check out my playlist on Canva 👍 ruclips.net/video/ueYofRQWENk/видео.html

Hey Adam, thanks for checking out the video. Guides and rulers can be enabled by going to File>show rulers & guides or short cut key=Shift+R. As for the work area, it's just a blank project at 1920x1080 dimensions. You can use any size you want. I only used this dimension so it shows well on video. Hope that helps!
Technically you don't have to export it once you've gotten the gradient done. However you will have to repeat the process for different words. Of all the updates they made, I was hoping that they would make "gradient text" available. Maybe in the near future?

They should have Gradient in text efffects
I definitely agree with that! With all the new features they added, could they not have added this too?
Yesssss
They have now

I've never had to use canva until now and your video made the gradient text effect so easy. So thank you.

Could be the gradient is too light in color?
Thank you so much, this was extremely helpful!!

It is not removing the background for me. Any suggestions? (I have canva pro)
hmm would this work for a like a chrome type gradient say if you were making like a 80s style font?
I wouldn't see why not? You would just have to use a Chrome texture instead of the gradient and follow the same process. There are also pre-made chrome text sets in elements so be sure to check there too 👍

Your video is great! My gripe is more w/ Canva. I'm setting up a template for a client and there just has to be an easier way.
I appreciate it! what are you having trouble with?
Thanks for the help! It worked well!
Glad to hear that! You’d think it would be a standard option by now huh? 😆😊
Is there a way to do this by using a photo rather than a "gradient"?
Yes. I tried it today. It’s a lot more finicky with the background removal though
simple, clear and to the point, thanks
You’re welcome! Thanks for checking it out 👍🏼
Unfortunately Canva cant' tell there is a background on my photo.
You might have to try another gradient, or saturate the Color more and give it some contrast. Alternatively you can use the other background removers linked in the description.

i dont understand why not they just put a gradient color option in their text effect rather than use a gradient shape.
100% agree! However, this video has aged well so....good for me 😬😊

The option for edit image to adjust the color isn't there for me.

amazing....
Followed instructions from the video several times and it didn't work for me... Hmm :\
The only major drawback of canva is to not give the text gradient effect

When I tried this, my text uploaded as transparent :/
I'm not sure I follow...when you saved it?
When I remove background, nothing happens
Kind of hard to know what’s going on without any context or details. Change the background to something other than white to see if it worked properly.
how did you get your scale/ruler marks at top of page? What template did you use to start this? whiteboard?
Hey Adam, thanks for checking out the video. Guides and rulers can be enabled by going to File>show rulers & guides or short cut key=Shift+R. @@MonzonMedia awesome thanks so much:)
@@ASVProductions you are very welcome my friend, anytime!
I will just do it in Photoshop and bring it into canva. So much work just for a gradient text.
That's a pain in the head, they should give it directly in text colours
This is a hack. Isn't there an option to make it on canva without having to export it? Some option I could change colors in future editing?
Technically you don't have to export it once you've gotten the gradient done. However you will have to repeat the process for different words. Of all the updates they made, I was hoping that they would make "gradient text" available. Maybe in the near future?
This worked for me last month. But now is not :(
Surely, you dont expect me to do with every instance of text i have to use gradient in?!
Weird they forgot to add text gradient feature..
Right? Especially with all the new features recently released.
