      Your welcome, and yes my dad was one of the old-timers pushing a handcart at the age of 16. So it's in the blood, my brother did his apprenticeship with my dad and I did mine at a large firm with over 40 painters great times did so much. We would both help from an early age and would fight over scrapers to the point where there was an accident and I got a split nose. So band out of the room at home when any decorating was taking place till we got older.

      Painting and Decorating lol..yes I have 2 young young sons who want to work with "daddy" and paint and decorate.... there's definitely a craft to this game as you know.....you've got to impress mrs Smith and roll that dust sheet out into the doorway as you enter the house!!....I love the old school ways...and hopefully try my best to keep the tradition going hopefully mixed with a selection of new methods and products.... keep it going mate....love the videos and your methods....good to see other people care as well about the trade..

    Mate your thorough, you could get away with two pack filler or even toupret powder filler and the right coats of paint over top , fair play for going that bit extra where most would use two pack ,decent powder filler and caulk for cracks and gaps, keep up good work mate🖒

    I haven’t got a radiator below mine but mine are all separating - plus it’s a new build only 2 years old - quite significant separation

      That's quite common for new builds, first couple of years or so will have all the cracks show up with movement. You want to fix them after the house has settled.

    Great video, thank you. FYI... windowsill
    ˈwɪndəʊˌsɪl
    noun
    a ledge or sill forming the bottom part of a window.

      Thanks. Cill, British, a variant spelling (used in the building industry) for the sill.

    Hello mate, surely the filled wall where you removed the trim right up to the uPVC frame edge would eventually hairline crack at the edge from thermal expansion? Do you just slap on frame sealant at the edge before painting?
    Trying to figure out how to deal with plaster/filler against things prone to movement like uPVC. Just caulk and go?

    Does foaming around the windows help with condensation?,acting as a sort of thermal brake!, I’m doing a job where there seems to be a lot of wet condensation on the side walls of windows causing black mould!,or can you recommend anything to put on the reveals to help stop this?

    Good video - thanks. The edge of lining paper in a window reveal slightly overlaps on to a upvc window frame. I want to stick the edge of the lining paper to the upvc feame and the paint over the lining paper. What adhesive do you recommend?

    • @PaintingandDecorating
      @PaintingandDecorating  6 лет назад

      You can try Solvite overlap adhesive but sticking paper over the silicon is not good. You may be better using some caulk at the edge of the paper, it can act like a glue as well.

      Painting and Decorating Thanks. I was thinking about using caulk. Cheers and thanks for all the videos.

      Mark Rowland your better off lining first let it dry, and then see if the edges are lose then use caulk.

    Hi is there a reason you used 2 pack filler on the sills instead on hard stop filler

    • @PaintingandDecorating
      @PaintingandDecorating  6 лет назад +2

      Yes, the two pack dries faster and the sill was getting an undercoat first, a hard stop is used before a final coat usually with emulsion.

    Hello mate, been really enjoying your videos but had a couple of questions I desperately wanted to ask you.
    I have a crack in my ceiling, plasterboards, but can't detect any movement. I don't know why the crack is there, perhaps the house twisted after I banged in some noggins between the joists in the floor/ceiling between ground and first floor. Makes sense since it cracked all opposite corners of my skirting too.
    It's not wide enough to squirt foam in so should I rake it out a bit and then lay some foam in it, using your usual method. Rake, PVA, Foam, PVA, Filler, PVA, paint? Or should I use your screwdriver method too and punch some holes along the crack?
    Does the foam work because it has some flexibility to it, although even if it did, how does that make the filler you put on top of it, stop from cracking because filler isn't flexible?
    I understand the foam principle for essentially pinning something as shown by you in the plaster board demo video but don't quite understand how it works other than that, ie for permanently fixing thinner cracks, instead of skrim taping. Although you plater over Skrim anyway so maybe having something flexible under the filler allows for small movements?
    I've been trying to paint my house for 4 years now, my house is a nightmare and its essentially ruining my life lol
    Teaching myself is painfully slow and steeped in mistakes. I've had to do it full time now to get it done but it's so hard. I've actually become pretty depressed over it. Typical 1995 shit wimpy build. All the paint is hanging on the wall cause it didnt bond to the plaster board.
    Do you have a way I can contact you outside of youtube? More than happy to send you a little lolly for some more personalised guidance.
    I took on doing the whole thing myself after having several bad experiences with workmen, especially from checkatrade, which has left me struggling, frustrated and without enough money to pay professionals to do it properly over any required period. Roughly 2 weeks.
    I'm in a real bind here but your videos have given me a new vigour and confidence to carry on instead of falling into complete disappear.
    Sorry I sound like a nutter lol
    Thanks.
