Welcome to Pokemon Yellow Squidgy, Here’s the yellow Rival. His eeveelutions replace Cloyster, Magneton, or Ninetails. His choice depends on what happens in the first two battles. Lose to the Eevee in the lab and he’ll evolve it into Vaporeon. Period. Then if you beat him in the lab and on Route 22 with his Spearow he will evolve into Jolteon. If you beat him in the lab and skip or lose the Route 22 battle he will evolve into Flareon. In the end the Vaporeon cannot freeze you but has Hydro Pump. Ninetails is faster than Flareon but only has Fire Spin and Confuse Ray instead of Fire Spin and Flamethrower. The Magneton is more bulky but slower than the Jolteon and comes out sooner in the match so you will be Thunder Waved sooner. Magneton has Thunderbolt while Jolteon has full on Thunder. I hope this information helps!
That's very, very helpful, thank you! Looking at those teams, I think the hardest one for Corsola ended up being the Flareon team - Thunderbolt is definitely more of a threat than Thunder, just due to accuracy alone.
Don’t quote me on this, but for the rivals. I think you loose the match in professor oaks house and the match the route to the elite four. Your rival gets a vaporeon. You beat him in both places they get a jolteon. And if you win on professor oaks house you get flareon
I really never thought you would play Pokemon yellow but after seeing this video I would say it doesn’t matter what game you play you make them fun to watch and you do it with style thanks for the awesome video can’t wait for our boy macargo in the future and special thank to you for making awesome videos mate
The rivals starter evolution depends on how the battle at Oaks and the optional battle on the way to the Elite Four go. If you win both he gets Jolteon. If you win one (skipping the optional battle counts as a loss for this purpose) he gets Flareon. If you lose both battles he will get Vaporeon. It’s all based on the perceived difficulty of each evolution vs your Pikachu.
12:01, thought I heard Dodrio has fissure. But yes, one hit KO moves rely on speed. If you outspeed your opponent, then they have a chance to hit. If you dont outspeed, they will always miss. Also, its debatable that the Flareon team is the toughest because of Cloysters high base Def, amd annoyance with Clamp and Ice Beam. And Magneton with its high defense and special stats. Plus thunder wave and thunderbolt.
Fun fact: in pokemon yellow, electric-weak pokemon tend to struggle more against the flareon team because the Magneton gets thunderbolt while the Jolteon team only has Thunder (30% accuracy difference)
From what i know the rival works like this: Win Oaks Lab and Roure 22 = Jolteon (As he likely sees Pikachu as a threat.) Win Oaks Lab ignore/Lose Route 22 = Flareon (He see Pikachu more an anoyance not main threat) Lose Oaks Lab and lose Route 22 = Vaporeon (As he sees Pikachu as weak and chooses intentionally the eevelution that is weak against it to show it off.)
Pokemon Yellow is my favorite generation. Yes. But don't forget about the badge boost glitch. It will happen on any buffs and debuffs with every odd badge you have so moves live defense curl/harden, etc. will have their niche when needed. But you seem to know that. I can't wait to see the new challenges in Yellow. This would be entirely different in Red/Blue. And yes, OHKO moves work by speed, not level.
I've been creating backports for Red/Blue at the same time as backporting to Yellow, and my plan is to stream some of them later this year - I reckon Rival 2 is going to be a much, much more difficult fight in RB as opposed to Yellow! I chose to let go of Harden in this one because we're in the Fast level-up group. In testing with another Fast Pokémon, I kept losing the buffs at critical moments, so I thought it was best to go for better coverage in this one, and hold onto AncientPower for the chance of a ridiculous boost!
Hey! That's a good question! I decided against keeping Harden in this one because we're in the Fast experience group, and we often level up during the important battles, which would make us lose the benefits of the glitch!
imho there is no need to redo Corsola. His Flareon team is typically considered stronger than his Jolteon team simply isn't that threatening. sure ninetails is an annoying confusion spammer but Magneton is typically the bigger problem with Tbolt and Twave and it is bulkier than Jolteon. Jolteon is fast but you usually outspeed anyway if you aren't running a fast mon, so you don't get to see the tremendous damage Jolteon can do with a Thunder crit, usually
After completing this video, I sat down and studied the teams in a little bit more detail - I reckon the Flareon team is going to be the main team we see throughout the course of the challenges together.
Nice intro to gen 1 videos. I think corsola does better here than in gen 2 solely because rival 2 is different. I was expecting you to keep harden for the badge boost glitch Vs the likes of Koga and Agatha. In yellow version the rival picks his eeveelution based on the results of rival 1 and 1a. I think it's entirely fair if you allow yourself to give him any team you like as any of them are intentional in game.
Corsola absolutely fares better in Gen 1 than Gen 2! If Corsola was in a slower level-up group, I'd have kept Harden, but we were leveling up during most of our key battles and would've subsequently lost our badge boost advantages! Looking back now, I reckon the Rival having a Grass-type Mon probably would've provided a slightly harder challenge because we have the 4x weakness. It's gonna take some time for me to figure out which Rival is best for each challenge, though.
Lose in the lab, no Rival 1a: Vaporeon Team Win in the Lab, no Rival 1a: Flareon Team Win both Lab and Rival 1a: Jolteon Team Interestingly enough for Electric weak pokemon you actually want the Jolteon team as it's only STAB is Thunder (30% miss chance). The other two rival teams have Magneton with Thunderbolt and Thunder Wave which can makes the final boss more difficult.

Omniboost + badge boost glitch goes crazy
It genuinely might be the most busted thing we could backport into Gen 1! It's ostensibly four free turns of setup in one when it activates.

it's the pokemon stadium funny moves guy aye
Very nice! Looking forward to witnessing your growth in yellow Squidgy!
Badge boost glitches are gonna be your friend throughout this series!
15:10 you called Agatha Karen hah

Neat run and happy new year

What a birthday treat! Thanks Squidgy!
Happy Birthday! I hope you're having a lovely day!
Can't wait to see a Sunflora run hopefully sooner than later!
Middle of February for Sunflora :)
@@Squidgy My body is ready.
Happy New Year, Squidgy!
Same to you!
I love the back port stuff
loving this gen 1 video squidgy!

We are not talking about the gen 1 miss we needed against Giovanni‘s Queen? 👀
Was there a reason why you didn't pick up water gun in Mt moon?
We didn't need it in this one - we're in the Fast level-up group, so I knew it wouldn't be too much trouble getting BubbleBeam :)
Did you want to keep harden for badge boost?
Hey! That's a good question!

Pfff 😂 gio hitting fissure is insanely unlucky
Wonder how long Corsola will remain on top? Probably not long.
We'll find out on Tuesday whether Corsola is quicker than Ursaring!
