    I’ve come the furthest in my skill set by pushing my practice until I start to fail ….. if I’m shooting nice and tight then I either need to shoot faster or at greater distance …. Push your skill set until it starts to fall apart …. Then work on how you can fix it

    A great video for those of us for whom perfection is almost good enough. I will definitely work this drill today.

    Normalize misses in training when practicing going fast 👍 training is not the same thing as a sd encounter or comp match. Having misses going fast in training is perfectly ok, so long as you can articulate why you missed and how to smooth it out by fixing fundamentals at the same speed.

    I'm working on accurate first and then speed second. On a good day, my goal is a fast single shot draw with a fist size hit in the A zone at 7 yands. Do that inside the fist A-zone 5 times. I'm happy. 2 out side the fist out of 5. Then I slow it down a bit to keep all 5 in. Then slowly increase the speed till the wheels fall off. I'm currently at 1.5 all 5 in. Working now on achieving 1.2 not there yet. This is from appendix draw. I challenge myself with the fist size A. To simulate stress, in a real life situation. That's my high standard. Thanks for the training moment.

    Rhett Neumayer talked about training for a fast Bill Drill by walking right up to the berm and doing strings of 5 as fast as possible into the dirt, unsighted, just to get the grip and trigger manipulation where they needed to be.
    Then once that string is fast enough, you can start to tighten down the cone of fire bit by bit, until eventually you can see your sight while maintaining that speed.
    It's the first time I'd heard a speed-first approach articulated in a way that made sense to me.

      I think that accuracy-first shooters will really, really struggle with that. :)

    I've definitely recognized that I'm a speed first shooter. decided to watch the video anyway. I'm glad you explained how to run this drill for a speed first shooter

    Great stuff. Thinking 98 is almost good enough is a hard habit to break but you present us which the necessary thought processes to change.

    Damn. If I could find a teacher like John to learn from and a student like Destiny to partner with, this is the kind of training that I feel could help me. Great work you two!

    this is super helpful. I am an accuracy first shooter and I’m scoring the least amount of points down in competitions but losing to guys that are faster still.

    Static range and slow firing i can do all day but this is an awesome thing to try and speed up. How is your lead levels john? Make sure you get checked

    What is the size of your A zone? As a chronic accuracy shooter trying to break the habit I really appreciate this video and drill.

    • @ASPextra
      @ASPextra  8 дней назад +1

      In this drill it’s a USPSA A-zone, so 6”x11”

    • @brianshuler6951
      @brianshuler6951 8 дней назад +1

      @brianglowery Almost all competition/testing targets (USPSA, Q, B8, ...) can be reduced by 50% size and get the primary scoring areas on 8.5"×11" copy paper. If you have access to a copier, this saves money while allowing you to simulate longer distances (i.e. 5 yards equates to a full size target at a distance of 10 yards, etc.) I use them on short 15 yard indoor ranges to allow me to practice for 30 yard shots.
