- Hello 👋
Welcome to Sam Shutt Farming, daily life on the Hill farm
This is Sam and Oliver plus 5 children farming beef sucklers and sheep in the North Yorkshire/Cumbria border area.
We are first-generation farmers, and we've had no help at all to get to where we are now. We are here to show you our life and what we do. I am also here to show new entrance that it is possible to start from scratch. Being strong-willed, determined, and a lot of hard work, you can do it.
We are both from farming background I grew up on a family dairy farm. Milking from a very young age.Working for my uncle when i left school. I've learnt everything from him and grown ever since. I met Oliver when I was 16 he was 15 We started with a few sheep when we met and have built up over the 16 years to were we are now. We took on a 500 acre hill farm in 2019 currently 5 years into the tenancy.
Also, to show women in ag are just as useful

@@juliealderson1180 yes was nice!
Interesting auction coverage , always think you are better going for shearlings than 3 crop ewes given the price difference and the number of years you get out of them.
You deserve a good price on Tuesday, looking forward to seeing that outcome.

If fat lamb prices are good, breeding stock always follows. Sheep farmers love to spread the profits!
@@JohntyNich haha 🤣🤣
Please excuse my ignorance Sam …. But why do some farmers colour their sheep yellow?
Don't need daft iam hear to help😃 it's like make up . They want them looking their best 👌 so they colour their fleece to make there head and legs stand out. Just looks smarter to sell 😃
Where best place to buy south chevi tup
@KieranHolmes-rb3qw one for oliver that . We usually go to Lockerbie for North Country chiv tup
those yellow sheep in the auction is that there natural hair colour........sorry wool colour or have they dyed it .......maybe they started going grey and they thought need to keep themselves looking young so they dye there hair ....sorry wool..........i'm confusing sheep with humans here😂😂
@geraldbeard856 it's like make up . They like them looking their best 👌
