    That’s not a rant whatsoever friend. Simply straight talk which I totally agree with. Too much of a quality risk when buying straight from the Mint. I’m prepared to pay extra on the secondary market to acquire top graded £5 sovereigns to collect. Thanks for the video.

    Totally agree with you, I have purchased a coronation sovereign just see as think will make a nice little set with the jubilee and memorial ones I have. In regard to the mint I'm in the same boat I won't purchase directly from them anymore as it's just issue after issue, I go through some of the other online dealers as at least they care to some degree.

    Hello Shaun, it’s good to see you are on the mend. I think that the Coronation release will be a long term winner especially the five coin set. It’s interesting to remember the 1937 specimen set had a mintage of 5,500 whereas there are only 1,050 of the £5 proof coins.
    I recognize there has been a lot of sovereign issues over the last 12 months but we have had a platinum jubilee (will never happen again) the sad death of QEII and hence the memorial sovereigns and now the coronation of a new monarch.

    I'm not a fan of graded coins myself , you get lovely proof in a lovely box which you throw in the bin and then put the coin in a crappy plastic coffin . ... but I know a fair few who would disagree with me . Being paranoid I always think the guy with the now graded coin can sell the box and papers to someone else for them to use on a coin that may not deserve it .

    • @shaunoliver1703
      @shaunoliver1703  Год назад

      There is no right or wrong on grading its shades of grey and circumstance. The boxes do get sold, but you can't dictate the actions of others sadly, boxes are bought for a variety of reasons but I dont doubt some people have bad intentions :)

    The "Mint" issue is becoming endemic.
    The stories from Hinckley Point, Severn Trent, GE, NATS, and worse of all NHS, not very encouraging..

    I agree 100% with what you say about the Royal Mint , I've sent back so many coins now.... I'm getting to the point where I will cancel every set order (some I have) if I can't get a decent coin ... without having to return rubbish three , four or even five times ... it's not acceptable ..
    they refuse to sent out returns labels , so you end up using several ink cartridges on printing etc...
    I have ordered the new three sovereign set , but that could take months to arrive... but if it's bad I'll go for a refund.. and just buy a single ...
    Glad your feeling better ... look forward to see what coins you have coming ..

    They need to make cheap bullion rounds that have some kind of unique pattern when they're minted, like have some kind of swirl in the metal, so you can check a high definition photo online to make sure it matches. Stamp it with a serial number and then if the weight and dimensions are exact there is no way to counterfeit it.

    • @shaunoliver1703
      @shaunoliver1703  Год назад +1

      Im not sure it would help because the counterfeitters are one step behind.

  • @dleetr

    To be fair, they say they've been around for 1000 years, not that they've been quality for 1000 years. hahah. I have a feeling that bullion sovs would be ultra cameo if they were minted by Perth Mint. As for suppliers giving you better service. I don't think Mints should be undercutting their supply network in terms of price (you're paying above wholesale but not RRP from your supplier, because you're a dealer), but certainly customer service should be at a minimum level expected of a business with a Royal Warrant. Along the lines of what you said, it would be the university grad, never done any real work or had any real responsibility in their life management, wasting revenue on pointless selfish diversions, being clueless and not open to self-reflection or criticism (females). Self-reflection and being open to criticism are traits which maintain standards (competitive spirit in men, which strives for ever higher standards). Then letting a core aspect of the business slip (quality control and response to customers), they're there because they qualified for the job in the interview, not because they actually have a passion for minting, or ever could develop one, as they're intellectually so removed from thinking in that way. So instead they have diversity training and all that nonsense going on at the management level in the Mint, instead of hard discussions about repairing customer relations and actually forging a plan to implement it.

      I think it says on their invoice 1000 years dedicated to quality, I highlighted it when I sent mine back. I agree about Perth Mint comment they are a solid mint, I don't disagree with what you have said either. I have a masters degree myself and I have met a few people like what you have described.

      @@shaunoliver1703 Oh really, it's on the invoice. hah. Thanks for the reply mate, guess i'm not avid enough a viewer of your channel then, sorry.. I'm one of those Jack of all trades but Masters of none types (that's my excuse). I didn't used to despise the upper end of the midwit bell end curve (that goes to Uni and subsequently promulgates their negative essence into this mess we call civilisation).. But as I grew in my knowledge of how people work and watched as life tested them and they were found lacking again and again, my patience thinned as my dissatisfaction grew. Out of that, I developed a new theory of mind which biforcates the species into two very different types of being, so I got something out of it I suppose. But this has nothing to do with lovely coins, or your cool wheeler dealer adventures, so forgive the detour.

      @@shaunoliver1703 In the days before the obsession with driving every kid they can through University, most industries that weren't using apprentices, used cadetships. Talent was identified from those working on the floor of the business and enterprising self-starters with half a clue, were brought through those programs. This was a win win, because you had people that knew the business you were in, they were just some mercenary savage, brought in with a business degree and a self important attitude, whom hopes to monkey branch from job to job as they chase ever higher salaries, like we have now. Or some arse sitting clown that hasn't actually done any real work whom is not shooting for the moon but also has no desire to work, or learn the business. You mention the '89 special proof but back then it never came close to selling out. It was rather unpopular with collectors. PF70's are now auctioning for around £1,900.
    For all we know that could be the same with today's Coronation proof sov. I for one would not miss out. Total "must have" for any proof sov collector. Absolutely agree that R.M. prices are stratospheric at almost 2 times bullion value and quality has been let down due to manufacturing imperfections or poor handling at the mint.
