Like #82. Remember when original salt & shake, ready salted crisps were 3d (1 1/2 new pence) a packet. There were 50% and 925 silver still circulating in the currency
Back in 2018, I was broke and went homeless. I have been sleeping in a tent ever since while working days/nights/evenings whatever hours I can get. But all that time, I have been investing my money. Now, it seems the rest of the world is broke, and I am starting to become wealthy. I guess I took living within my means to an extreme. How things change, huh.
Royal Mint does fortieth ounce coins, which is a relative size to an eighth sov. The problem with that size is the premium and things like a breeze coming in the window or accidentally sneezing near that speck of gold
I’ve noticed a rise in living within your means thinking , sign of the times ! This behaviour while good on an individual level it. Also has negative affects on a local level as people don’t invest in there future or take risks when boarding up windows
It will not be the size of the Gold coin but driven by the price. A sweet point for the gullible. Customers will see price rather than weight and places like RM can whack the premium up. I know you believe deep down that Coloured coins are the future😀
Interesting take on things, Shaun🙆♂️. I’m into sovereigns( only got a few😱), I’ve got a couple of the halves, too! But I’d willingly trade them for a full sovereign any day of the week 🙆♂️. As for quarters and eighths, I would prefer buying bars , instead 🙏🙏.
being buying a few silver proofs rather than Gold due to pricing but as a collector for the next 10yrs I'm hoping the coins I'm stacking now will show a profit in the end
Correct.. I have noticed over the years how the price of crisps have gone up.. and now their being sneaky.. not only do they seem to raise the price.. but look at the grams.. you get less crisps .. and yet are paying even more for them... which makes you buy more... totally shocking... IMO ... 😢
I know they’re different things and this is opening up a can of worms but I think things get to a tipping point where the new money goes straight to paper / digital gold. If you can buy fractions of a share or bitcoin through your phone to people that just look at the price and not the rational of holding physical why would you pay a massive premium for nothing more than a speck.
Its an interesting question - I don't think the east would allow it and I don't think the west has the power anymore to do it unless via the means of theft of the populace. The problem is the average western citizen is broke..
Your calculation was correct, an 1/8 would be 0.915 grams of gold. It's just that on a proof, the details are compressed and tiny. It's like that on my 1/4's now.
I think many like myself, seeing some of the shenanigans in Liz's last fews from the RM (ridiculous SotDs etc), and also seeing her as a last of a kind, have given everything since a hard pass. Personally I'm happy to do so, and think all the interest short to medium term will increasingly shift back to that era. Will there be a new generation of CIII onwards collectors? I hope so because that makes the historicals relevant to a wider market for years to come, but I'm really not so sure.
I think CIII will go down poorly as an era - from feedback people are just not interested in him as a whole. It doesnt mean the hobby is dead because its also for investors - its a duel market in a sense.
@@shaunoliver1703 But can coin collecting get back to what it can be if, as you suggest (and I agree) CIII does poorly? I think people will still look back to the 'golden' years of QEII and further back, and I think they are already doing so.
@@kimchi_b Its an interesting question - I think it depends how long he is king if I am honest. If the crown goes down to william within the next 5 years I dont think it will do collecting too badly.
Maybe instead there will be fifty percent gold coins, like they would water down silver currency in hard times. So we'll move from gold to electrum. This said, perhaps this is the cue for a move to silver, if the tax on it can be lifted would be funny to see a Dos Brittanios though.
Wouldnt know myself - The highlight of my drug taking was accidently taking speed 4 times whilst using some weight loss pills as a study aid (true story ha)
Interesting thought 🤔
Thanks for stopping by

Showing your age :D. It does show that inflation is inbuilt into the system mind you.
I totally agree. That's why I started buying halves over the last few years.
I think the halves will become the new go to coin over time - we shall see.
@@shaunoliver1703 you dont think they will just run with 1/10th britannias instead?
@@echoecho5244 I think the sovereign will stay as the coin to collect it has the history.

I am sorry you went through that in the first place - Living within means is the path to salvation.
Well reasoned thoughts on the shape of things to come.
Lets see how savvy I am..
People have been talking about this for years.
Nothing new, but can call yourself savvy if you like 😂
I think you're right, halves are going to increase in popularity the 1/8 size would be the logical next step for them to make
I think it will happen

@@shaunoliver1703 Thanks Shaun, appreciate that mate. I’ve always enjoyed watching your content and following your journey along!
Like number 69 dude!
Yes I now look out for “small” gold as it’s psychologically less of a hit versus buying a larger coin.
Good old psychology :D

Ive dropped dos peso coins on the floor and lost them for several months before haha
They would be so small if 1/8th? Or maybe same size but mixed with copper?
There are other companies doing that size but yes it would be tiny at 22ct

You are not wrong but you are also not right. I think the issue of boarding up windows is a misallocation of tax money myself
Excellent shit
Glad you enjoyed the video.

There will always be people who just veto it straight away - royal mint doesnt care for that though (as they have shown over the last couple of years)

Its getting to the point where they are taking the biscuit
Twas an interesting video,I kinda think I should have bought half’s when I bought doubles,I did debate at the time🤔
Its an internal debate I hate also. I went the other way.

This topic is worthy of a video.

Great video, interesting presentation 👍
And of course « Salt & vinegar » crisps are the best 😍💪🏻
Love salt and Vinegar.
They've been advertising 1/8 on the TV. You know the sort of company. Don't think I'd be able to see it that size.😂.
I have had that variety in stock they are tiny!
Crisps are potato chips? and chips are french fries right
crisps are potato chips yes. Chips are french fries but in the UK (where I live anyway) Chips are thicker and french fries are thiner :)

it does get harder and harder to make the detail out and my eyesight is relatively intact
"Moving forward". As opposed to "Moving backward" ?
backwards in many ways

I can't see this happening as I think it would lost their Exempt status in the UK and make the UK uncompetitive abroad.

Sounds like you’re late to the party. People have been discussing affordability for years regarding full/half sovs.
Nothing new.
I was discussing it years ago - just not the 1/8th :)
