- How to use a Laser Transit (or laser level). Learn about how we use this tool to establish elevations and find the grade for our new road to the barn in this video from www.thisishomesteady.com.
We are putting in a road today, and to make sure our road is level, and at the right elevation from start to finish, we are using a laser transit.
A laser transit is a great tool for earthworks. By sending a level laser beam out across your property, it allows you to check elevations on all of your excavations.
it's so nice to have helpful advice on building a small farm business. since I was little I always wanted a horse farm or cow farm. now I have a pig farm and I hope to have chickens next and then maybe a goat or two. I didn't have the best childhood and I made a lot of bad decisions in my past. I have come along way from when I was younger. I'm 28 my fiance is 36 we have three children we live for. we just want to bring them up in a good healthy environment away from all the dreadful crap in our society today.. thank you so much Kendra and Austin. i hope to tell you my story one day in more depth but I'll admit it's a little embarrassing. lol but where we are now from then is amazing. we want to give back to our community and help people and our family
Very good.
I watched a few videos on the transit bro and this one was the most helpful. Thanks!
thank you for the video Austin and Kendra! I was so excited to see a new video was uploaded I've become obsessed with your channel. I have a new dream because of all I have learned from you in the last few days
thank you for inspiring me and my family. I love watching keep the videos coming. such good topics. I have fallen in love with this lifestyle. I know it's not all easy but it's the kind of lifestyle where you feel good at the end of the day with everything you do. after you put In your road I bet so mhch stress of getting hay or being able to get there will be lifted and you will feel so accomplished after. it's so rewarding. thank you for the video and please keep them coming. I love learning about this.
So young and mo-less 😂😂 And a great teacher even back then!
Best explanation I've seen so far..thank you!
That's an interesting looking tree! Lol
Thank you for your time in the use of this tool. Much appreciated.
Wow, great video and introduction! Well done!
I'm really looking forward to seeing the finished project, Aust.
+Gavin Fish thank you! We've got a lot of work left to do. Twice as long and twice as expensive, right? But we'll get there someday.
I'm excited to see more project videos.
By far a GREAT explanation!
Awesome video it really helped thanks
Thanks I learned something
Great job thanks for the info I'm saving up for a laser level can't wait to get one thanks again
Good video, but I don't understand! You never mentioned any height values where you took laser readings. Do you have to subtract the height of the laser head directly above the ground? And what is wrong with a driveway that gradually slopes up to the barn from the road?
Laser level and rod. Can your laser level also adjust vertically?
can you use this same laser like a transit level? for example to strike a straight line for a fence? Id like to buy just the grade level, can you explain if it performs both functions?
Thank you!
Sweet, very helpful
You need a tenth grade rod, easier to calculate grades when moving water via pipe or road
If I am setting posts for an ornamental iron fence where the panels do not bias/rack, what would be the best way to make sure I have the panels level from one end to the other end 200' away? I will obviously have to step the panels, but I want to have a minimal amount of steps as possible..
NICE,,, very helpful,,, TY... 👍
Excelente
I am looking at buy a laser. Never use anything like this before so I have a question. Does the receiver have a program to mark the starting point by the transit then the second point of reference, in your case lower point at the barn door, then make reference to elevation to every point in between? This of course would mean that the receiver can measure distance to the transit so it could correlate the correct elevation at any point in between the starting point and at the barn. I am thinking correctly or am I off?
I would like to master the lazer level ,can you help me ?
What type of laser is that your using and where do I get one from ?
How many acres are you on? Or do you have an overall video review of your homestead to point me to? Thanks
Is that your personal equipment or did you rent it?
Keep up the great videos and I will keep watching them :)
+Holistic Advocate it's Austin's dad's equipment. Very nice to have someone who has an Earthworks business at a time like this!
Pretty damn cool👍
Thanks I need the education.
Wow, awesome. Ty
Great video except that’s not a transit.
it’s called a rotary laser level. You said you used to do this for a living? A transit is more like a scope that you would look through Over a distance to see a marker
Anyone else notice the little girl that fell and started crying and he just didn’t notice?
I wouldn't say this is a bad video but it could definitely be explained better. You went through the steps but not how they are being done.
I just joined your email list. so excited to get emails now!!! thank you so much for what you do
I like how your wife waited to correct you....her gears were spinning just as mine were....
How come when you watch the NBA All Star game the players are lucky to hit fifteen 3-pointers out of twenty-five attempts; but when you watch 7th grade CYO you'll see kids hit 10 out of 10 3-pointers? Are 12-year-olds better 3-point shooters than NBA players?
I'm so confused
Laser transit... You mean laser level.
both can be used they are essentially the same thing

Wrong. A transit allows you to do a foundation layout, and angles . All this level does is establish elevations.
You are using a laser level not a transit.
Why not just let the girl blabbing in the background do the video? You try to make an informative video and some broad has to be in there putting in her 2 cents. I'll find another video
Wow! That is so not something I would enjoy 😅😅 However, my husband would think it's cool. Maybe it's a guy thing 😅
+Candice Christensen I'll be honest, I (Kendra) don't understand it at all. My brain doesn't enjoy figuring out things like this.
Hahaha 😅 I'm glad I'm not alone 😉
can you use a different brand's receiver for the builder's level?
