- I hope this tutorial was clear enough for you guys to understand, and I hope you enjoyed it. There are more elements to lightsaber effects and if you guys want I can make another tutorial that goes into those details, showing off more things that can be done with the saber plugin.
If you have any questions, leave a comment and I'll do my best to respond.
Thanks for watching :)
Hey guys, I’ve noticed a lot you are getting an issue where you’re installing saber but it’s not appearing in your after effects. I might have a couple things you could do to fix it. First, be sure you’re actually running the installer when you download it. You’ll click on the installer once it installs in the browser you’re using, run it, and it will take you through a setup. Another issue could be that you’re not selecting the right file path for your after effects, be sure it’s installing in the correct file location. Also be sure you have the correct version of after effects selected. I’m happy to help you guys, let me know if you’re having issues.
Hey bro, I dont know what causes it, but sometime when I go to play the video, the saber isn't visible although the eye is selected and all of the key frames are in the correct place... the only solution I can find is to close the project without saving, but then I lose some of my progress? Can you please help?? Thanks bro :D

HexedLol wait rly, can i get it for free
Guys, as the 100th comment I will say this one tip to make you save lots of time. When you place the sayer's start and end points you do not need to track it frame by frame, you can do it every 5 to 10 frames and AE will auto track it. You will get the same result.
This will work a lot of the times, but not always. If you move your saber too fast in between keyframes, the real saber will outpace the saber layer. A lot of the times, you can get away with skipping frames, and it will save you a good amount of time!
Or you use one of this ways: ruclips.net/video/5lw3boMiiB4/видео.html

How do you make it retractable? Can you do a video on that you left that out
It’s the exact same thing you did to make it come out, but instead of increasing the values, decrease them
@@SorestMercury but what if you have the extension of the plastic blade how do you edit that out?
If you want to extend and retract your blade in the same shot with no cuts, you will either need to record a clean plate and paint out the plastic blade after it retracts, or never actually eject it in the first place and only have it eject digitally. Doing it with the second method will require you to place your keyframes without a practical reference however.
@SorestMercury Quick question regarding Adobe. I have an account and I’ve only downloaded animate so far. If I were to download after effects or premiere pro or any of the other apps, would that make the price I am paying monthly for the Abode account go up?
I’m asking this because I am still living at home with my family and my parents are the ones paying for it, so I do not know how payment would work if more apps were added on to it
If you have the ability to download it already and it’s not locked behind some form of payment, then your price should remain the same. The only way I could see the price going up is if you purchased specific programs rather than the entire Adobe suite, but I imagine Adobe would let you know if you were buying something you had not yet purchased.
Hello I cant install the plugin

very helpful video. good job!
Glad it was helpful! Thank you!
In the movies they use the "follow" method, where the blade follows your physical blade automatically. It way faster
What is the “follow” method?
@@SorestMercury That's when you tell the software to follow two points, one at the base of the blade and one at the top. That's the fastest way. I learned it 22 years ago in school. Usually it's two prices of orange tape on the blade
Yeah, using tracking is possible, but when you have faster movements where motion blur begins to come into play, often times the software is not able to keep up and properly track the points. In some situations, tracking works, but not always.
@@SorestMercury I mostly edit the problem areas frame by frame to make it look better but tracking the blade saves some time in editing
I accidentally got rid of the effects and presets tab. How do I get it back?
Nevermind, I found it.
Alright, glad you got it figured out 🙌
Hey bro i followed all the steps and everything is fine except the actual saber isn't positioned in the right place even tho each core start and core end is in the right place. Like the saber is tracking fine but is always to the left of my prop saber for some reason
You probably accidentally shifted the entire layer over, open the position settings of your adjustment layer and change the values to 960, 540
SorestMercury I changed both the position of the adjustment layer and the acc footage to 960, 540 but nothing changed :(
It could be that you just didn’t place the points accurately enough, try keeping the saber layer on, going back, and tweaking the points slightly to line up correctly
SorestMercury Yh bro I legit spent an hour doing the points and I like zoomed in 400% and did rlly accurately, but it all just shifted to the right somehow so frustrating, I’mma have to restart 😭😭
Hman yeah it sucks but unfortunately just happens sometimes. You don’t exactly have to restart though, it’s a lot easier to just go back and clean up mistakes than it is to completely start fresh.
I am doing an effect where I have to estimate from the hilt the saber, so I have no reference with a stick or rod. Its going okay so far, however I notice when I try to adjust the core end, it drags and makes the saber fatter, same as with the core start, but this messes it up as the saber isn't moving much as the character is still. How do I keep the proportions but adjust as needed? It isn't like I've done in the past where you essentially draw five to seven points around a saber and can move the corners as needed. Thanks.
It’s probably because motion blur it turned on in your saber settings, I forget exactly where it’s located but I remember it’s not hard to find. Turn it off and it should fix the problem.
Okay but how do you rotoscope so when you swing the lightsaber behind the Saber would be behind as well?
Use masking tool
What about instead of tracking frame by frame , we use mocha tracking , will that work ? ( If I used a solid instead of a adjustment layer)
If you’re moving your lightsaber slow enough it could work, but with fast moving objects it would be much less reliable, especially if your footage has motion blur.
Does this editing software work for IMOVIE? And is it possible for an iphone?
No, it doesn’t not work with iMovie, unless there is some plugin I’m not aware about, and I don’t think this can be done on a phone either
SorestMercury Aw man. That is unfortunate :c
Nice of you to reply early! Have a great night/day. Stay safe, brother. :D

SorestMercury no problem! I’m definitely looking forward to more tutorials!
Hayden Martin I just uploaded a new lightsaber video, tutorial probably coming soon 👀
Does anyone know why these dots are far away from the lightsaber itself. This only happens when using an adjustment layer, but if I use a solid layer, the dots are right at the opposite ends of the saber effect, as they should be.
I’m not sure what you mean, could you clarify?
I already had like 75% video completed, then I turn it off and next day continued but now I cannot click on core stars and core end buttons because the whole layer where you have dose markers just disappeared and Idk how to get it back please help me.
Click on the layer you have the saber effect applied to, then go to effect controls, click on the saber effect, and then click on either core start or core end, the dots should re appear
Thank you this is really helpful
For some reason this was listed as spam and I just saw it. No problem, I'm glad I could help!
Where can I get a prop lightsaber that you can have only the hilt and then extend it like you?
I got mine many years ago when I was probably around 7 or 8 years old, I’m pretty sure I got it from target, but I don’t think it’s sold there anymore. You can look online for the same one, or similar ones. I wish I could help more but that’s really all I can say.
@@SorestMercury oh okay but can you recommend something similar I can get?
ValleB it really doesn’t matter at all, but if you want the kind like mine where you pull a trigger to eject the blade, look up “force (or spring action) action lightsaber”
SorestMercury thank you. Keep up the good work
No problem, I appreciate it!
I followed to correct way, I unhid the eye. I cant see any actual blade. The glow settings are correct, the size and intensity. I still cant see the blade
Bonez N Tonez are you sure that you’re in your composition view and not the layer view?
Dude i want to do this effect to do a video like these Jedi Cat videos, but i dont have a toy lightsaber or a stick as support, so to do it, do i do the same process but following the hand movements?
Yeah, you can do the exact same thing following anything. The only reason you use a prop lightsaber with a blade is so that it provides a perfect reference as to what to track. You can definitely do it without by just guessing where the blade would be, but it would be harder since you wouldn’t have that reference.
Thanks this was great! Can you do a tutorial of the sound effects?
The sound effects can be found online with some google searches. It’s really just a matter of downloading them, dropping them in, and syncing them with your footage. If you need any help I can guide you to some, but they should be pretty easy to find. Thanks for the support!
Thanks
Hey i have some questions plz someone answer me. First. How can i put sound effects?? And second how can i make battles??
Aggelos Daldon14 to add sound effects simply download sound effects off of the internet, there’s countless places you can choose from, and then drag the audio files into after effects and sync them with your footage. It’s really that simple.
To make “battles” do the process that I showed but with however many sabers you have and for however long you need. It’s exactly the same as what I showed in the video, you’ll just have to do it more than once
@@SorestMercury thanks man
Yeah no problem
Wait how do I export it 😅
You can either import the after effects project file into premiere and export it that way, or use the media encoder
What if i donot have a prop light saber?
You could either make one, there’s many different ways to go about doing that, or just use something like a flashlight
it says 5 minutes but apearently I have to go frame by frame, this is the video I have not been looking for
@@ShalemBarak-gorodetsky yeah, I taught you how to do it in 5 minutes. If you intend on getting into visual effects and expect anything to actually take 5 minutes then you might want to consider getting a new hobby. Visual effects is art and it’s tedious work sometimes. If you want to look for a quicker way of doing lightsabers then go ahead, but you’ll have a hard time finding a simpler way than this.
@@SorestMercury I know I get it but I think there are better ways then going frame by frame,
@@ShalemBarak-gorodetsky you don’t necessarily have to go frame by frame, you could go every 3-4 frames instead. But any version of this effect is gonna involve some sort of key framing.
I don’t mean to be annoying but how would you make a lightsaber clash effect when two lightsabers collide
Hey man no worries, you can ask all the questions you want. I’m here to help. For a lightsaber clash, I would probably just find an image on a lens flare online (or create one yourself if you know how) and when the two lightsabers hit, have the lens flare appear for a frame (be sure to turn up the brightness). Another thing you could do is just turn up the glow intensity/brightness on both sabers when they collide for a single frame. Let me know if there’s anything else I can help you with :)

also another question, when the lightsaber goes behind someone (out of view) how can i make it disappear and then come back? like i did the key framing but the saber goes behind my sister, so how can i make that work? hopefully that makes sense haha
Regarding your first question, scroll up or down with the scroll wheel to zoom in/out
To make it go behind someone, make a duplicate of your footage layer, and then begin masking around the thing that you want your saber to go behind. Once you’re finished masking, place your duplicated footage layer on top of your saber layer.

@@SorestMercury it worked thanks alot
How do u make the blade go behind someone
You can do it a couple of ways, you can either create another saber layer temporarily (for the frames that it’s passing behind someone), and then have the saber layer that’s attached to the hilt end when it hits the part of the person that it’s passing through, and then have the other one begin on the opposite side of the body part you are trying to get it pass through so that it appears as if it’s passing behind them. The way I do it though, because I think it’s easier, is you duplicate your footage layer and then create a mask around your actor for the frames that you need the saber to go behind them, and then get the new mask layer and put it above the saber layer so that the saber layer will be behind it for the frames you desire. You might need to animate the mask some depending on how much your actor moves, but once the saber doesn’t need to be behind them anymore, you can trim the mask layer to stop. Hope this helps, just reply to this comment if you have anymore questions, I’m glad to help!

B you could do that, but when you’re swinging the saber really fast like in a lightsaber fight (probably what most people will use this kind of thing for) there’s no way after effects will be able to track that automatically, and you’ll also have ugly green tape on your saber, which doesn’t look good, and then only way to remove it would be to paint it out, which would ultimately create more work to be done.
