@@zalosgames7658 dang bro when you finish it ineed to see this
Goodluck with your movie!
Wow. Same situation me and my friends are going to make a star wars fan film that is going on my RUclips channel and I am doing all the work
That slider at the bottom is actually really smart
More tutorials should have this
This is phenomenal! One of the BEST tutorials my eyes have witnessed on RUclips. The slider at the bottom of the video is literally the icing on the cake (if a cake was to have icing on the bottom). Well done. Keep up the great work, and you've just received a new sub.
Making lightsabers in After Effects is one of the oldest tricks in the book. However, not too many tutorials use Andrew Kramer's 'Saber' plug-in, so I guess it's good to see a mix in technique's used.
Really? I see too many tutorials with Saber. And in my opinion, Saber looks good, but not great. Classic rotoscoping looks better in my opinion. Saber is just easier and quicker.
@Tizerk When I did lightsaber stuff, I used both classic roto and Saber when it became available, and I agree 100% with your take between the two. Perhaps I've missed many 'lightsaber' tutorials with Saber because I haven't used it for that in years, and really haven't had a need to look them up. I just stumbled across this one at random.
I would say the best FX of sabers i've seen is the saber plug in placed over the white solid rotoscoping method. A larger fall off, and the strong accurate rotoscoping of the reference blade. But oh man is that time consuming
I never seen a tutorial so good
Thanks blue lover green hater
Thank you. This is really going to help me make my star wars movie
Awesome!
still waiting for Sean's star wars movie
The way you categorized your videos in the bottom that was unique. And the tutorials were so easy to follow on. Great job ❤️❤️
This helped me A LOT especially for my school drama project. Thanks!
This video couldn't be more clear and easy to follow. Also, thanks for the timeline throughout, it saves a lot of time if missing certain things.
Does anyone know how you could apply such an timeline overlay?
thanks guys you are the best for giving these objects to rehearse and know how to use the effect. I thank you very much and for this thanks I will do this to follow your videos
Thank you for taking the time to acknowledge all of our efforts 🙏
Thank you very much! I was so doing another technique but it was very tiring... Yours technique is very easy and fast. I am proud of myself what i did. Thank you a lot :)
Awesome, that’s what it’s all about!
Thanks for this, super easy to follow even for a complete noob to after effects!
Really excited to try this! Thanks for the tutorial the bar on the video and the plugin!
Done plenty of editing but new to After Effects. Love these, great videos. And free files!
thanks to u i’m now a VFX/ lightsaber guru! so helpful, liked, subscribed, shared, and turner on notifications
Thanks Man, this is really useful.
This is really cool I'm going to try it for my end of year video for my orchestra
Very complete tutorial i really like this
Thanks for showing all the steps! Most RUclips's dont and it gets hard looking for the button
This looks great, except if you look at where to blade is coming out, it sort of just hovers on top, so I would recommend to mask out the emitter using rotobrush 2.0. If you are wondering how to turn a rotobrush into a mask, just click on the rotobrush layer and then go to the layer tab and select "Auto-Trace". make sure that "work area" is selected. you can then copy that mask onto the Saber layer. Then change the Alpha mode on the saber effect from disabled to Mask Core, and then enable invert mask. make sure that you also copy the rotobrushed layer, and remove the mask from the copy. And don't forget to make sure that the rotobrushed layer is above the copy. This really helps improve the look.
can you explain please¿? i dont know how to do it, i cannot mask properly, i have a pyracy version, but i dont know what to do when the blade is behing something
@@santiagofernandezgimenez2098 ruclips.net/video/D5z93APxlGk/видео.html use that tutorial to mask out where the saber is coming out
Thank you so much bro this help me alot !
That was so Nice! Thank you so much i Can really use this😊👌🏻👍🏻💪🏻
You are an excellent teacher!
The first thing I did with after affects, turned out bad but still really cool

Thanks Sir Love From India ❤️
So good. Thank you!
It looks easy but it's actually a exhausting and boring processe. Really appeiciate the film makers and their work.
Thanks for the help I made a really cool school battle with this technique xD
this is a really good tutorial
I've never work in after effects, but now I'm really want to do this! I hope I succeed! Thanks so much dude!
Good luck ✌️
First time using after effects. Gonna start with this. Wish me luck
I didn't skip through, thx
so cool
thank you so much it works perfectly, I tested this with some 4k footage and my laptop couldn't handle it that well, but I know this will work with normal 1440p
Hi, epic tutorial thanks for it. How do you make the lightsaber disapper behind you?
Really good! I learned a lot!
Amazing for my star wars fan film
Im new to after effects and I was wondering why you guys made the solid transparent instead of making a black solid and setting the transfer mode to add or screen.
Hy, can you make a video of how to make the lightsaber effect when it goes behind a tree, arm or generally occurred by something
set blending mode to screen instead of changing composite settings to transparent. Looks much better that way.
I wouldn't really recommend doing this. Because that will only work with certain colors. The closer the color is to black (or whatever color your solid is), the worse it looks. Of course you could try to match the solid color with the saber color, to make a combo that works, but that is much too difficult. So all in all its just easier to set it to transparent.
@@benroc6893 your Saber color will never have anything close to black in it. As long as your solid is black, setting the blending mode to screen will always work better
I just have a question, when I actually edit them frame by frame, after going back to the previous frame I find that the thing I did didn't stick to the frame but just follows what I just did.
i cant seem to make the saber transparent. Could be my PC not sure. The saber still has a black background.
Thanks man. Pumped to give this a go!!
Just gave this a try, didn't know it was that easy, thanks for the video really cool.
this helps a lot mate thanks :D
Could you show how to add sparks when the lightsabers clash or possibly even cuts in the world, like when a lightsaber strikes a tree?
Very good manual
can you make a video on what to do if the lightsaber happens to be occurred behind something like in a choreographed fight for exemple
I'm wondering if you can answer a question for me. I'm working on a light saber scene and I'm wondering how to shut it off so it doesn't show through the whole film or do I have to do each scene individually. My goal is to try and put the full trailer in after effects and edit that way and then render it. Do I have to hide the location points throughout the whole film or is there a way to key in a mute?
Found out how. Thanks.
@@mcsstudios101 how do you do it?
I need to know how! How did you do it?!?!
Hey, so.. I'm following your guide to a T, but when I'm animating my blade, it changes shapes and warps, it just looks weird. It doesn't stay as one single thing.
My question would be what’s best, To cut up and edit my shots and then place the light sabre affect on top of the finished edit or put the light sabre effects on all the footage and then edit those clips together
I done with animating the lightsaber, I preview my video then the lightsaber just stay on screen, how to fix ?
Sorry for bad english
*Edit
Done i forgot to click timestamp
i dont know if im right or not, but if the light saber effect isn't moving is sounds like you forgot to click mask path when you started the animation
@@marcuswest7270 right, thanks
@@marcuswest7270 just a question from a noob here: where do I find that?
@@Tiemon if you go to 6:28, you can see where he clicks the "start core" and "end core" timer symbol. This will start the animation for the blade so you can adjust it frame by frame.
@@marcuswest7270 thank you so much!
Your the best thank you so much for making this video and put the files, I practise on your video and I made it . please make some more videos
Great to hear
If you close the program and open the file again, how do you get the menu on the left with all of the settings for the lightsaber to appear agian? I havn't finished animating the blade, and I can't find a way to select it so I can animate it again.
I have one question.
Do you have to pay money for the other blades anf stuff? Or is everything free.
does anyone know any good after effects tutorials of when the lightsabers clash it doesn't have to be this pluggin just anything can help
WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOWWWWW
try to put x mark to your light saber end and start and track them, and copy the postion of your first track to the start and the second track to the end hehe
this is amazing. Thank you so much, this is honestly really good
Thank you so much. this was quite helpful!
Can it apply the Lightsaber effect if the sabre is moving around a lot? Or do you have to go frame by frame to edit everything?
Okay I’ve been trying to find the specific video for my question but I can’t find it. So my question is when activating the lightsaber I’m getting one with a attachable blade, do you leave the blade off when activating then cut and attach it or is there a trick to do it with it attached??
When I'm animating the mask and hit the checkbox on invert mask it gets rid of my whole blade? I'm stuck on that one part.
Thanx a lot!
Amazing!!!
Anytime I adjust something that has a key frame from earlier for my stop motion videos, stupid Adobe AE gradually changes the setting, when I need it to be what it is for only that one frame. If I don’t use key frames, it’s moves it for every frame!
Please help!!
Dude your videomap is beatiful
Thanks mate
Hi! I love this tutorial very much. Though I do have a question and I hope I could find some answers here.
- When I do as the tutorial or even doing frame by frame, the lightsaber would not fully sync with the flow of the video. How do you suggest I fix this?
Amazing video and thanks!
Can you go in depth with the plug in thing I have it and I don't know what to do because video copilot doesn't show up on the effect panel in After Effects?
This is cool but probably easier to just use an illuminated sabers and only use AE to show them switching on. The other problem is you don’t get the light of the saber illuminating the scene, the face etc etc.
how do you make it automatically add keyframes? im new and cant add keyframes without deselecting and not being abke to move the blade
Hey. How do i enable that the lightsaber actually saves every frame cuz when i play it stays where i last left it so it doesnt save that one frame. Is there a shortcut button i have to press?
Hi i kinda need some advice on how i could track the hilt better
is this possible if i have multiple saber's on screen? thanks.
i decided to go ahead on the part where you were putting the saber into position and did each fram manualy. i didnt know that it would do it auto if you did ever few frames. my wrist is now dead
Great video!
Cheers Corey
opacity on the glow needs to be turned down, but other than that it looks great
So im planning on making a similar style video to when Kylo Ren get his blue saber from ren through the force from behind his back. The only thing thats holding me back is on how im gonna mask the saber behind him
Hi! I like this video. May I know how do you add the sound of the lightsaber? Thank you :)
Can we do this by tracking.? Doing frame by frame will be long process.
What do u use for the lightsaber sound fx
This is so great. However, how do I hide the real saber (in my hand) before the lightsaber comes out? Just make a cut scene?
I'd like to see the light come out of the saber, when the Jedi turns it on, which wasn't shown. Anyone know how to do that?
This is so helpful, thank you, my friends and I are making a Star Wars channel called “501st Legion” true Star Wars fans get it, but this will be so much help, thank you
Any plugins for the sound effects as well?
If i try and render it the saber wont render with it
doubt anyone will see this but what should you do if the leading edge that the plugin makes isn't right?
Can i make the lightsaber effect thicker? I have big lightsaber
Literally one second after this comment i found out you can use core size
I don't speak english but I can understand everything
I have a problem that occurs every time I animate a lightsaber. When a person is mostly standing still but heavily breathing, I HAVE to animate frame by frame because the breath jitters move the person's sword prop too much in one frame. And I'm fine doing it patiently. However, the end result is always a transformative jittery mess that looks terrible. How can I make it smoother and less bouncy
How do I download the plug in?
Hey, I know this is really... really late. But would this work with a duel? Like between my friend and I?
Thabks
