Englewood is a great little town. It is small, friendly, and safe. There are organizations that do a lot for the homeless here including regular potluck meals.
I was born and raised in Englewood. I've watched this town go from a great place for kids to get over run by the in flux of elderly northerners, and they absolutely destroyed it! The reason there are so many homeless in Englewood now is that the rent prices are unbelievable. People from out of state have bought all these homes and duplexes, then pushed the rent up so high that it has pushed out locals! I just seen the other day a room for rent for $2,500! One single room! Nothing included! This side of Englewood is on the Sarasota County side. They treat this side of Englewood as a step child. The roads haven't been taking care of in over a decade. I know where they places are at where this dude is showing you. Ian did destroy our town, but the homeless has been here 20+ years now. It's sad to my home town like this. I still live here. 40+ yrs. I've watched this town become a cesspool of drug uses, homelessness, and some many businesses shut down. Englewood is now a horrible place to live unless you have money.
@FLORIDAHOODVLOGS We do have several churches that have food banks and a mobile shower that is at one church on Mondays with a clinic. But I did see where some said we have places for them to go, and that is a lie. We do not have any place where the homeless can go, too. Not in Englewood. We don't have a homeless coalition. So these people are basically stuck. The nearest homeless shelter I know of is in Port Charlotte. That would take them days on foot and a day ride on a bike. What saddens me the most is that I'm raising my daughter here, and I can not imagine what it will look like when she graduates here. Sarasota County does not care about this town. I'm sure you have seen the side roads. In the neighborhoods. Pot holes filled in and filled in again. Over and over. Where Dearborn St. If you head east towards 41. That road is supposed to have been widened to two lanes both ways since the late 70s! This is an evacuation route. They started a few years ago with this from 75 to 41, but Sarasota will not go further than that. Winchester Rd, which is of River Rd, goes to 776 on the Charlotte County side. It's one lane all the way to the Charlotte County line, then becomes 2 lanes. This is another evacuation route. Pine St is the same way. Charlotte County 2 lanes. Sarasota side 1 lane. Englewood is Sarasota Counites cesspool.
@@LiquefiedVision Englewood is really far out in the county . It's historically called Wrinklewood , has had retirees for ever . And they never spent any money because they were the cheaper ones from Ohio and Illinois and Michigan and didn't spend money to grow the place . The locals are inherently all crackheads so they always just brought it down too. And the homeless come here from all over never intending to rent or buy anyways .
Pretty cool - I live ~2 miles N of Dearborn & 776 intersect. I've never watched a video & saw my (very small) town.If you live in Englewood - give a shout-out! Helloooooo PS empty bottles are from recycling bins-expired meds are disposed of properly.
Pill bottles are for recycling, attics are desperately trying to find pills but those are empty. I pick them up while im working. They leave them out on docks behind stores.
I really loved your video! I have lived here for 9 years...love it very much! Sad about the homeless population, our community has a lot of free food and housing etc.for them, but it's just the way it is for some people. Whether it's because of mental illness, drug addiction, hardship, some folks don't want to get out of homelessness. There are so many great things about this area. You were a great videographer! :D I hope my little town stays "Old Florida"
I worked that way for Englewood Disposal the local garbage company. Moved out of there in 2000 when my divorced happened. Never looked back, I still worked for the Disposal Company until 2019. Saw that whole area decline through the years.
Are these camps along Indiana road. We live in a gated community park forest off Indiana and they had set up one of these camps right outside of our dates in the woods. We went in with Olive and threw everything away as they were trespassing on the developers land.
Sarasota/Bradenton has the most RV/MH Communities in FL. But 95% are 55+ (but mostly empty), look shabby, and have endless rules/regulations posted on the property warning residents to follow the rules or else! For example, the Manatee County Police will arrest a person for trespassing at the Tropical Gardens RV/MH Community in Oneco/Bradenton. Most of these communities that are highly regulated by the police look like run down, shanty towns! 😎
Not rare in cuba. Maybe you went to some tourist destinations but the real cuba is full of shantytowns. I saw people in cascorro living in clay huts like some african tribes in Ethiopia. You just haven’t seen the real cuba. Plenty of shantytowns in cuba, the north end of Camaguey and area called calera… you just don’t know. Not even people in cuba know
There used to be a huge one up behind burger king in old Englewood. I had a friend that ended up there and I went to visit her and I couldn't believe what they had done in there. It was all built up like a neighborhood but with tents.
Well, one positive about Englewood is that a lot of people I went to School with there in the 80's are staying around there reinvesting in the town trying to build the town up. They own businesses and are helping out. Dearborn street is really changing for the better. Homeless people are everywhere. I see young homeless around the area where I work in Bradenton and I wonder why. Why is a young person not able to find a job? If I were homeless I'd be trying to do all I could to not be homeless. Are they hooked on drugs? Not with it mentally? lazy? Did something happen that they got hurt and can't help themselves? Some programs could help these people gain footing to maybe get them off the streets. But they have to help themselves to get started.
You are ridiculous! This is trash on the road not a camp. No one lives there. This might have been a camp for a short while but they don't last long. The law enforcement doesn't allow them.
Very cute little town. There is lots of road rage all over the country for people are mad about debt economics, greed, widening wealth gap, and ineffective political leaders taking more than their fair share. Lots of people are working to pay to drive to work and eat barely scraping by. Our beautiful country with a most awesome potential isn't what it used to be despite many good folks longing for a new deal. Cutest small businesses, but probably not enough profit to make it as a sole proprietor entrepreneur in the old days where that is more about small town community and atmosphere.
@@FLORIDAHOODVLOGSIs it white sand and coconuts or a bit too far north? Very pretty area. I'd love to go fishing down there. I wonder if some of the homeless fish and eat fish in the outdoors?
I don’t walk around with the property appraiser app on everywhere I go. The really slick homeless put up camp on public lands like those belonging to a county makes it harder to extract them since its a “public place” or they find lots owned by Chinese investors who will never actually see the property themselves. They are vastly slick about who owns the land before they set up camp. They know all the land loopholes to avoid trespassing changes.

I think what happens is when they get evicted they try to hold onto to their stuff, but if it rains the wind would blow it around.
