- Sometimes when we try to boot from a bootable USB drive, or, after cloning a disk, when we try to boot from it, we may get an error stating, the selected boot device failed. Press enter to continue. On pressing enter, the system shuts down or, the same message is shown again.
This video covers a possible resolution to the mentioned error. Along with this, sometimes after applying the solution, you may get an error stating that No boot device found. This video also covers a possible resolution to this error.
Note that, the solution mentioned in the video deals with the BIOS settings. BIOS menu, user interface, access key, etc. differs depending on the system manufacturer and system model. The solution mentioned in the video will remain similar. The options may be present under different menu items. Also, before making the changes, make sure you keep a note of the original setting values so that in case the solution doesn't work, you can revert back to the original values.
The video has two steps. The problem should be resolved in the first step itself. But if it doesn't then, try the second step.
I hope the video proves useful. Thank you.

This worked for me. I had deleted the UEFI partition. Disabled Secure Boot and now I could install Ubuntu. Thanks!
Enabling legacy mode helped, thanks
this worked for me, thank you very much
Thank you❤❤❤❤❤
Thank you
I am facing the same problem and theres no LEGACY BOOT option in my boot configuration.....and While running the hardrive extensive test my laptop shows SHORT DST Test "FAILED"...what does this mean and is there any solution for this...plzzz help
Legacy boot option is sometimes present in different location in BIOS. Sometimes its inside Boot options and named as Boot Mode. Sometimes it's named as CSM.
If there is no Legacy Boot option then try only with the secure boot option. Try both enabling and disabling the secure boot. Mostly just changing the status of the secure boot resolves the issue.
SHORT DST failing means, the storage device is failing. It is not working properly. Try Long DST if there is an option for that. You may also try booting from a bootable windows media and access admin command prompt which is present under Repair your computer-Troubleshoot-Advanced Options-Command Prompt. There you can try running command "chkdsk /r". If possible, try connecting the disk drive to other system and do sector scan using third party software.
i do not have Legacy boot as an option but when enabling "secure boot" my screen goes black and says "the selected boot device failed" please help
