      I failed grade 11 so badly that I decided not to go back to highschool and just did grade 11 and grade 12 by distance education during my grade 11 summer and a couple months thereafter. Then I had my basically the entire grade 12 year free where I did whatever I wanted, I mostly played Diablo 2 and EverQuest and Counter-Strike mod for Half Life. I went to prom that year and everyone was surprised I was still alive. I’m in Dallas and I grew up bad. I got held back 3 times as a freshman. Not cause I’m dumb or anything I just skipped school a lot. Literally for days and then weeks. Id just walk around the hallways and boom I’m already out the doors crossing the street and grabbing my bud and rillos that I stashed lol. I got into a lot of trouble too from 5th grade all the way up till I was 17. That’s when I settled down and got my shit together. I got expelled from a lot of schools. Placed in disciplinary educational alternative schools since the 6th grade. I got sent to juvie camps and did time (like 6-8 months). My mom tried her hardest with me but I was just an angry lil boy. Ended up graduating at 19 (a year late) and now I’m in community college. Majoring in business administration but I’m thinking about changing my major to automotive or something with IT.

    I once went to school in a rather poor neighborhood where they made the teachers by all their own paper for handouts and daily class work. This is quite expensive, so my math teacher and acted a policy where if you brought her a ream of paper, she would give you 10 points on a test. The only problem is that there was no cap on this, so I just showed up the day of my final and handed her 10 reams of paper and went home.

    I dropped out after Junior year. Not by choice there where family issues. But the year before that, I failed Geometry. So I took it again Junior year. Failed that again (Although I still was in AP reading, politics etc, I hated Math and never even tried). I came back when I was 20 to take my GED. I KNEW there was no way I pass. No way. I coasted through school getting Ds in math my whole life, and never even attended Senior year. So I took the test and went home, sure I would fail that. Passed with flying colors. To this day, I do not understand how that works. I either got STUPID lucky with my answers, or there is something wrong lol. Or our standards are dumb to begin with. I wish I knew when I was a Junior I could have just went and took a GED test and gotten out of high school a year early lol. I went on to community college after that. Even though I had a Freshman level understanding of math at best, never had issues somehow and I was in computer science as a major. Our school system seems more and more like time padding on a ramped level. Shit's fucked.

    • @justinlast2lastharder749

      The GED Test was insanely easy. I got a 99 percentile on it and I dropped out Sophomore year. Did the Test over Two days. Wasn't recommended to do multiple sections a day but had to get the GED for the Army. Also had an 84 percentile ASVAB Score when I took it for the Army at MEPS.
      I'm a good test taker, things just stick in my head. I had authority issues so didn't care about school, didn't like most people, and by sophomore year I had to work full time regardless so couldn't stay in school even if I had wanted to. Learning on my own was much more beneficial for me.

    • @jibb1451
      @jibb1451 2 года назад

      @@justinlast2lastharder749 Funny you mention the multiple sessions in one day XD I took all sections the same day. Took me 7 hours. Had to take a 45 minute train ride to get there at 6AM, so I figured "Fuck this im not coming back again unless I have to". Seemed to work out alright.
      I remember being so fuckin tired coming home from the Trax station. Still had to walk 4 blocks to get home. I knew I failed, but then I got an email notification on my phone. I looked and sure enough: passed.
      I felt so happy but also sorta concerned about how shit our education system was I could swoop in there, wing it, and have basically the equivalent of a Highschool diploma. I am surprised/scared/proud you had even less formal education and still got through. Fuck the way the way this system works lol. Might tell my kids some day to just try and get a GED like Sophomore year and see how it goes. A two year head start in work experience is a pretty potent boost to living REAL life outside of school. Work experience is infinitely more valuable to me than a GED. Plus who wouldn't support a kid looking for work at the age of 16/17 who already 'graduated'?

    Thanks George W. Bush!! I witnessed my brother go through exactly what Kyle was talking about. My brother with my parents in the same room as the principle and his teacher told my parents “ Well you see, he isn’t on the same level with reading and math as everyone else. We can’t hold him back because cause it COULD severely affect his social life.” My dad said “ I could give a damn about his social life! If his friends are true friends they’ll be there no matter what!! But your telling me you can’t hold him back so he has a CHANCE at understanding and improving instead you push him forward to not understand or not be able to have any social life at all????!!!!” “ His self esteem…” *DOO SLAMS!!* my brother figured out its better to just go work and make a dollar than be stupid k in that system. That was when he was in 1st grade. He learned his sophomore year that work was better than school.

      This isn't unique to the U.S. I entered school a year early in Canada, I was "smart" but extremely immature and just never did any work or take the time to learn anything. By the time I was in fourth grade my mom tried to have me held back, the school said no. Gave the same reason they gave your brother, great lesson for nine year old btw. After I had that knowledge, I skipped classes like crazy, when high school came around I did the same thing as your brother and worked at Mcdonalds, skipping classes. Still got a diploma despite the fact my education was comprised of Halo 3 weapon spawn locations and fry cook times. Had to do some distance learning courses while I worked the summer to get into University. The absoluety ironic part of it all was it put me "ahead" of my friends (Even some of the AP students, who were way smarter than I could dream to be), I had a good bit of money saved going into Uni. My kids will not be going to a Canadian public school, I won't force them to work, but I won't force them to waste time on the farce I went through.

      This system seems very ill conceived to me. Where I grew up you didn’t get held back because we had 3 different levels of each subject.
      So you can be in the highest class for Maths and the lowest for Language. If you tried hard you could move up.
      It seemed to work well for the majority of people. Except the extremely unmotivated or the genuinely stupid.
