- Francesco Paolo Michetti, the artist from Naples who became a favorite son, was finally given a museum in his name. His dedication to large ambitious works won him much praise. He was a romantic at heart and sought the humble people to paint and record their personalities with native costumes and rich surroundings of churches and sheep of the land, providing plenty of picture-making possibilities. An independent thinker and devoted artist to his trade.
Wow ! what a story. And very well presented also. Thanks so much.
Another painter I wasn't familiar with. What a unique style, love the brush strokes."Truth" in painting is elusive and, IMHO, objective. Andrew Wyeth, after being asked why his watercolors had so many splotches and spatters, said, " Nature is messy." So there is THAT one truth, I suppose, or at least an interpretation of one artist's truth. Another great subject for investigation in future videos. Wonderful presentation. Thanks again.
What a GREAT artist!!!! Wow, wow and woooowwwwww!!!! Another Italian to add to the list (Is that fair? I wonder). Thanks a lot!! I am developing a strong feeling to travel to Italy and visit several museums. This one in on the list!!! THANK YOU SO MUCH for your work!!
Fabulous... and yes, many artists worked with the new medium of photography. Some work from life, which is admirable, but as times change, it is not always necessary. Nothing new.
Che grande talento! Spero di riuscire a dipingere come lui ❤🎨
My grandfather side of the family came from Tocco en Causaria! I about jumped out of my chair when you said it on this video. And you solved a mystery for me about the shift from it being part of Chieti to be a part of Pescara.
Wonderful.
Would u please make video about Ary Scheffer ?
A great video, as always; however, the portrait of the girl in white, in Rome, is by Cesare Tallone, not by Domenico Morelli, as implied here. It's of Tallone's daughter.
Yes, indeed it was a typo..in pictures, thanks. We'll redo. Our best to your students!
Have you done about Hugues Merle or is he in the future list ?
Yes. Future.
Well, I might not be as good as him but at least I don't have to flee from an angry mob or farmers, right?
I doubt that Michetti worked sight-size (although he may have done, once in a while). The photo of him working on a portrait in his studio is certainly not sight-size (it is not next to the sitter and is much larger than life-size). There exist also a great many photos from which he worked, and you also mention his adventure while photographing for Il Voto).
Actually, the point is that Michetti would have known sight size, it was common enough, the photo was added to show him at work, not to illustrate S.S., Appreciate the observation He needed to be recognized. Thanks
@@gammelllackinstituteVery accurate answer! That’s what I understood!
@@gammelllackinstitute I certainly didn't mean to imply any criticism: the work you are doing is superb. Sight-size is generally misunderstood, I feel.
