    My biggest mistake was watching that whitetail habitat solutions guys, watched his videos thinking i need to put up a swinging deer toy. Dan is the real deal for the type of hunting i want to do. Hit these big bucks right when they open the bedroom door. Shwack. I still need to get out of the mindset of, "oh i hunted this once, i can maybe hunt this a few more times". Nope its once and done, onto the next mature buck/ deer herd to get aggressive on.

    Just started listening. Dude knows his stuff. Gotta hunt where they are. Also you kill them first time on or it gets harder. Almost all my good deer are first sit kills when you have some level of surprise. My biggest southern buck (got bigger in Midwest) I was scouting a thick drain mid day and I found super hot sign under an oak in nasty cover. I immediately went back to camp and got my stuff and he came in before I even had my bow untied.

    I really would like to see what Dan could do in the South East. THP didn't prove so successful in Alabama. I swear the mature deer in the South East are the most switched on whitetails around, not to mention the terrain is insanely thick, green year round and these deer have food year round!

    • @BenDownTooLong
      @BenDownTooLong 5 лет назад +4

      I'd give the boys from the THP another season, those guys are studs they will get their bucks, I think Dan would fare about the same, numbers are what numbers are, nothing mythical about those deer probably just a few more wrinkles to iron out.

    • @kyler81
      @kyler81 5 лет назад +2

      Ben Ladik Oh I know they are excellent hunters and of course they honed their skills in their home states. I look forward to more Southeast hunts. I think here in South Carolina our rifle season is just so long which adds another wrinkle!

    • @thehuntingbeast
      @thehuntingbeast 5 лет назад +6

      @@kyler81 It would be a tough hunt down there... My only hunt in Alabama was on private land, and I was surprised at how excited guys got over bucks that guys up here would not blink at. It seemed like 130ish bucks were a lot more rare. I passed a few small bucks and then shot a small buck because it was a hunt to benafit the hungry and I wanted to take one for that. During the night someone stole my antlers. They cut my deers head right off while it was on the game pole. The guy who sponsored the hunt was so worried I would get mad he offered ti buy me a new hunt... I just laughed ans said if the old boy who cut the head off in the middle of the night would of asked, I would of just givin it to him... Anywho, hopefully some day soon I would like to try some public land down that way. Probably end in failure, but I like a good challenge.

      @kyler81 5 лет назад +1

      The Hunting Beast Yeah the true mature deer are a lot fewer and far between, but we have them. 120+ and it’s a solid buck for the South East! The South Carolina state record is potentially falling after this year 180+, but we just don’t have the amount of ag land and our rifle season is 3 months long! I actually have come across some private access in your home state of WI this year looking to try and come up for early season sept.!

    I've watched this video before because, as newt told Gus when Gus told Him Call was his father in Lonesome Dove, "Just knowin' means somthin' I guess," because if "public land parking lots" exist here in Fl, I have never seen 'em. There's public land in the form of WMA's but you don't just go to a parking lot and walk in without a ticket to hunt in THAT specific WMA. I'm 68, and I lived on the edge of town and hunted out my front door across the road and into the woods from the age of about 13. I have 3 sons and all the land I used to hunt is locked up tighter than dicks hat band now. I miss them not having the opportunity and the challenge to just roam the woods and figure it out. My oldest goes to the trouble and he kills enough to pack my freezer. I just can't seem to bring myself to it. It's like, "OK hunters, here's another restriction and another added cost",.... Then in the next breath, "We need you to introduce your children to hunting and pass the tradition on so we don't lose hunting altogether." "Oh, and BTW, we're closing those properties your sons COULD park and hunt as of the 2019/2020 season."
    The FWC thanks you for your understanding."
    I hunted at no cost BTW.
    EX: There's federal property less than an hour away i hunted in my younger days. The cost of entry was the price of a lunch then. Try to fit a father and 3 boys into a blue collar budget at $750 a head now just to get through the gate.
    OK, i'm done.
