He is making things complicated in the video... No need to do all those things just Long press on home screen widgets>apps with multiple widgets (All)>Android widgets... That's it :-)

you can use some miui 13 style themes, still u can’t change the panel.
To get old widgets
1 Go to home screen in settings
2 change the app vault to Google discover (in -1 option)
You will get old widgets now
