TV commercials can be pretty weird, and that’s especially true in Europe. We put together 8 of the strangest European car commercials we could find on the internet, and some of them are downright creepy. This is the D-List!

@@geethsal1861 The imperial system is inaccurate, if you don't think so then tell me what an 1/16 of an inch or 1/46(I've heard both numbers being used and even the people who use the imperial system as their standard didn't understand) is, the metric system is a lot more accurate and it's a lot more logical. Scientists(Space technology) in America even use the metric system because of this reason. It's still opinion based tho because people just use what they find easier or what they have grown up with.

@@melvynpietak8444 legit reasons it hasn't been changed are 1st, most high-school educated Americans are competent with using the metric system and could if they wanted to and most socket sets you buy in north America include both imperial and metric tools. 2nd, the logistical nightmare that would be switching things such as the US international highway system, rail system, ect. from imperial to metric would be extremely expensive and time consuming to the point that it would make no sense to change things from the way they are and confuse travelers durring the transition as well as basically toss tax dollars into a near unending pit of updating.
Edit(also the way someone reads degrees is irrelevant to the issue since the only application where it matters is in science fields where Celsius is already used. Kelvin is superior to both tho)
The Finnish Samara ad is peak eighties but I think it would’ve worked back then. The tone is hyper stylized, whimsical and fun, but she’s also showing the room in the trunk, the practical-ness of moving luggage and friends and maybe doing her makeup in the big mirror. Not sure how big a market this was, but dozens of 1980s Finnish women probably loved this ad...

Total fun fact for this 2year old vid - the Lada Samara had a twin rotor Wankel engine version. VAZ 415. Was the most poweful version of the original Samara.
The two cars at 12:50, have Swedish license plates. Both are de-registered, long time ago. Either exported or more likely scrapped. The numbers have been re-issued, EWN 722 is a truck trailer registered in 2017 and BHL 619 seems to be some kinds of horsebox registered in 2008.

I was about to go on the same rant about infidelity jokes but you beat me to it and more eloquently lol. This is like the healthy, positive version of Top Gear
My favorites are the old volvo commercials. The snowrace one, the "rollin' " song one, dynamic safety... Funny thing hyundai stacked up elantras on top of one another to prove they're sturdy, in 2013, volvo did the same thing with 240s in the 80's.
Everyone knows the weirdest ads are the ones Donut Media slips into the video for their sponsors.

As soon as this video started, I thought to myself "Dude, the cat decap Ford commercial HAS to make it" and sadly it was replaced with the pigeon one---but he mentions it!
I still remember it from Ebaum's World (remember THAT!?!) and it blows away the pigeon version. It is RIDICULOUSLY realistic and honestly darkly hilarious.
I miss the days when they'd put a progress bar on their sponsorship ad. It was such a small thing but very much appreciated

In Western Europe, car sales are the most common lie. "grandma drove him to the market on weekends and back" she still had a shorter right leg and never squeezed the accelerator pedal more than halfway. And this commercial is one of the best ever.
And then they get sent to us in Eastern Europe with the same lie. "An old lady/man was driving it only on the weekends, and only on the highways." is super common.
" And it doesn't clonk or puff smoke, and the kilometers are real!"

I was 12 in 2003 and that Honda ad was the second most iconic piece of television advertising of my childhood. People were still making reference to it years later. Only beaten (in my solid anecdotal evidence right here) by the Guinness ad with the horses coming out the sea and that Leftfield banger

Can I just say you guys have the best ads for the sponsored.
I think the context of the letter from the racing pigeon society was the Top Gear episode where a racing pigeon beat a Ford Ka in a cross-country race. This ad was Ford's response to that loss... sort of.
For anybody curious, the Sport Ka "cat" advert involved the car with an open sunroof. The cat walked along the roof, then popped its head through the open sunroof. The car then shut the sunroof on the cats neck. You can imagine the rest.

@@neovenom9833 most of Russians do live in Europe. The rest is tundra with a very small population on the east coast of Russia. 6 million people live in the whole area east of the Urals. Which if we didn't factor the population density of the cities on the east coast, would give an average like 1 person per square kilometer. The rest of the 138 million Russians are in Europe. So stfu, Russia is European. Eastern European, but still European. Hell even the Asian parts of the country have European traditions and stuff.
That's that solid American education at work once again. I'm honestly shocked when they placed the flags of France, Belgium and Sweden that they were all correct.

If you can't drink the beer warm, then you know it's not a good beer. When beer was created, it wasn't refrigerated. Cold beer is good, but the cold can also mask the taste.
Back to the Volkswagen commercial : In Europe there is this belief that buying a car from an old person who has owned it for the majority of his life is like the best deal you can make. Why you ask? Simple - because we believe that the old person barely drove their car and being very gentle and caring while doing it. In a nutshell you get a a car in a great shape with very low (real) mileage.
Its one seriously genius commercial at least in Europe👍
I once bought a golf mk2 with 111,000km on the odo for 250 dollar, newly inspected lol. Old lady had it in a barn for like, ever? Some folks bought the house and got the car from the barn lol. It runned like a dream.
Its the same in the United States. I guess where he is from that is not common knowledge. This was a funny juxtaposition and would have made sense here in the midwestern part of the United States too

This song has quite the same meaning as "you spin me round" or "do you wanna please me" (Samantha Fox). I laughed my pants off when I first heard this song way back in the mid 90-s. This was so fucking hilarious XD.

As Siberian born person, I have driven through -50 temperatures in the Lada Samara with out any heating and a cracked windshield for 7 hours (Екатеринбург - Курган) I can safely say, that they are one of the most reliable cars on the planet.
If it was that reliable, the heating would have worked.

@@ekscalybur i dont live in the us and i dont think guns are the problem more over the morons who can't control their anger and owns a gun are the problem guns serve as a way to defend yourself and your loved one from harm but when it gets too easy to get one you'll find murders / theft / school shooting increasing but when they are too hard to get ull find also more theft due to people thinking they can get away with such and such modération is the key feel free to convince me otherwise
