      "You know, I don't even like film making... I don't like the technicalities of it, I don't like the formalities of it. I like to tell stories." Wow. And that's coming from one of the best film maker on this platform. Goes to show that if you want to be a film maker, you have to value something more important than the aesthetics of a film. What an inspiration.

    No matter what, Casey's life is a powerful, motivating success story. He was also made for youtube. He's a one-man film crew. He was born to be a vlogger. Also, I think people are mistaking his overwhelming confidence as pretentiousness.

    I watched this when it first came out, and I had never heard of Casey. Now I'm a loyal viewer, but every now and then, when I have particularly bad writer's block, or I've lost purpose in what I'm doing, I watch this video and remember how I felt when I saw this stranger, an out there, confident and unapologetic guy, completely echo my own beliefs. He really knows how to inspire people that's for sure

      I can definitely see why you would think it is pretentious. Its definitely an effect of the editing and the music and the calculated nature of speaking. Casey Neistat's videos are great though, I've also seen a lot of them.

Watching your friends slowly make it big while you remain a nobody can be hard to watch sometimes, but that's not what it should be about. Casey came across a little stiffer than he really is.... but the advice was spot on.... A gentleman that builds custom motorcycles said basically the same thing... If you are doing it for the money give up... if you are doing it because you love what you are doing oddly enough the money with follow... Money is a tool. You need lots of tools to create and money is just one of them.

    This is another reason why I love and admire Casey and everything he does. (Jack too. Just for all his film making and how beautiful this video came out.) He's one of my hugest inspirations and I just get more and more inspired by him every single day.
    He did it right. He didn't rely on his passion to help him survive and make money. He focused on making money and a living to be able to be passionate about something he loves. *That's how you do it*

    Back in 2012 I started my youtube channel. I only made videos for a few months because I was worried what people at school would think of me. I didnt think they would understand and I was afraid they would make fun of me.
    A year later I started my channel again, but this time I wasn't doing it because I loved to make videos, I did it because I wanted to make money. Again, that didn't work out, because as Casey said, I wasn't doing it for the right reasons.
    Last summer I was going through a lot. I had a lot of things I needed to get off my chest and I decided to make a youtube video. I was so inspired by your videos, along with a few other youtubers, because you always put out such high quality content and you are able to share a story. It is the best feeling in the world when you have an idea or concept in your head and you're able to actually create it! I rediscovered my passion for making videos and now I'm trying to start my channel again. I just wanted to make this comment to say thank you. Thank you so much for inspiring me and I'm sure many others as well. Have a great day! (:

  • @Hevesh5

    What a great message. Really made me think about my channel and hobby vs job. I'm in a place where I feel like my video quality is going down due projects that *businesses* want me to do, not what *I* want to do. I kept making videos just to have something uploaded every two weeks, and I am not particularly proud of them because they may seem rushed and don't have as much passion as my videos a year ago. What do you guys think? Quality or quantity? Even if someone posts just once a month?

    • @ihavenonameanymore
      @ihavenonameanymore 9 лет назад +5

      Quality over quantity. That's a lesson I learned the hard way.

    • @xKalah
      @xKalah 9 лет назад +5

      People who actually care about your content won't actually care about how long you take to upload it but rather the quality. For example, Nigahiga - he's one of the few RUclipsrs that doesn't have a set day to upload videos yet all his subs still love him. It's because he produces such great content that you don't really care how long it takes, his BTS videos show all the effort Ryan and his team puts into producing his content as well which makes you appreciate it even more.
      Casey Neistat also uploads around once a month but the wait is worth it for the ideas he comes up with, he also uploads his daily adventures to his Snapchat story so you never feel as if he's just abandoned his channel or anything

    • @jackofallspades98
      @jackofallspades98 9 лет назад +2

      Hey Hevesh5! I would just like to tell you that I personally really enjoy all your videos, even the ones that are sponsored or are done because someone wanted you to. However, I'm sure I speak for all of the domino/RGM community when I say that we would also love more of the old videos where you just set up a large domino rally that had whatever you wanted in it. Your Super Bowl video brought back such good memories, and I want to see more videos like that. I admire that you are trying to keep a consistent upload schedule, but don't feel like you have to upload every two weeks. If you need to take three or four to make a really awesome project, I'm sure it will be worth it!
      Just wanted to take this opportunity to tell you that you should be very grateful that you were able to turn your passion into a job. Not very many people have that luck.
      -jackofallspades98

    • @Becksnnc
      @Becksnnc 9 лет назад

      Quality definitely. Having an upload schedule ,I've noticed with many RUclipsrs, causes them to stress out and put pressure on themselves for when a video is due and in turn ruins how good the videos could actually be. If they just took their time and didn't rush a video simply because there had to be one up there wouldn't be that added pressure and you would actually enjoy what you are doing more because there is no deadline. It wouldn't turn into a chore that had to be done.
      I don't even keep track of when videos are uploaded from the people I'm subscribed too. When they have a video up I'm happy. Doesn't matter when. I've noticed that when RUclipsrs have an upload schedule they tend to get more negative comments than RUclipsrs who don't because if their videos ever do slack or aren't up on time people start to complain because they expect something from them. You are you're own boss. If having a schedule is causing you to more upset then good then I suggest taking a different route. Emma Blackery is a good example of this. She had a very busy upload schedule. A video every other day it was and she did well with it until after about 3 months or so and then she kind of went downhill and was rushing everything, getting stressed, videos where getting uploaded later than she planned ect. She ended up scrapping the schedule and now she just uploads whenever she feels like it and her videos are much better and she seems to be much happier and more relaxed than she was before.
      This is a pretty long comment I've just noticed but I had a lot to say haha. Good luck on your channel :)

    • @Hevesh5
      @Hevesh5 9 лет назад

      jackofallspades98 Hey, thank you for the reply - I really appreciate it. This helped a lot, especially hearing from someone who is part of the domino/RGM community. I'm going to focus on making my *own* videos as good as they can be... something that I will proud of. It's getting increasingly harder to find time to build because of school, but I want to post something that I am happy with even if it takes a bit longer to make. And believe me, I am beyond grateful that I am able to make domino videos as part time job :) This is the best job I could ever ask for. It's changed my life in so many ways and I can't thank you all enough. Thanks again for the nice comment.

His stories blow me away every time I watch one of his movies. He inspires me everyday to push forward, and look towards the future. But look towards the future differently. In a way that changes society, and changes the way we think. He's an inspiration to me and the world along with JacksGap. They all change our perspective on life in the present and future. Jack, I am so proud of what you have become. The fact that a person like you is in my country right now, making a film about it and loving it, is almost overwhelming and it makes me happy. Thank you so much, Jack. ❤

    This was a good video, well edited and everything, but this video doesn't convey Casey well at all. He's incredibly out going and funny, and this video acts like he's super serious. He's incredibly talented and one of my favorite human beings on earth, and this video doesn't display who he is. This video shows the harships he faced, sure, but doesn't show who he is today.
    I urge everyone to go watch some of Casey's videos if you haven't done so.

    Casey Neistat is so cool. iv been following him for 3 years now! he inspires me to venture into film making too. I have all these ideas i want to share with the world but i know the time isnt right now. First i gotta get the degree out the way make some good cash so i can kick start my projects. In the mean time, rather than just sitting and doing nothing about this film making passion, i keep searching and finding new inspiration,new concepts/visuals from fellow filmmakers like Gnarly bay Javi Devitt (vimeo), Chris Arnold (vimeo) etc, Im also planning on getting into a course on how to use after effects so i can learn editing skills.
    At the end of the day all that is important is the action you take each and everyday. Eventually you will reach your goal.
    thanks for the advice too Casey!

    This Video has actually opened my eyes to some things. I love photography more than anything else in the world, and through society, other people and general expectations of how one must live in this world I have forced the question "How can I make a living out of this upon myself?" whereas the real question should be "How can I live my life doing as much photography as possible?".
    Thanks Jacksgap and Casey, you have brought me one step closer to my goal.

    • @monicasanchez2954
      @monicasanchez2954 8 лет назад +2

      ***** That's 'cause he's been actively posting videos since he's joined whereas Casey only did so sporadically until he started his vlogs. Since he's started that, his sub count has rapidly grown from tens of thousands to a couple million.
      I wouldn't stress over it too much. Casey's gonna pass him soon, you'll see.

    • @TwoGamingDudes1
      @TwoGamingDudes1 8 лет назад

      +Monica Sanchez it seems odd that a college student has more subs than an 30 year old who had his own TV show

    • @BariumCobaltNitrog3n
      @BariumCobaltNitrog3n 8 лет назад +3

      No it doesn't seem odd at all. In Casey's talk in Amsterdam yesterday (May 28) he says when he started posting, a 14 year old high school kid had 100 times the views he was getting, after winning awards at Cannes, Sundance and having a show on HBO, he was humbled. RUclips is a true meritocracy and those that have it rise to the top, and those that don't fade away.
      Logic does not predict that a college student will have less talent than a person successful in television. George Lucas made THX1138 while attending UCLA.

    I think Casey Neistat has really shed light on a real issue with monetising creativity (with specific reference to RUclips) which we see so many examples of on this platform today. Obviously RUclips has become very lucrative in the last few years, but there is an clear difference between people who make content for $$ and people who make content to break barriers, to express themselves, to send a message. JacksGap have a real passion for what they do, and it is demonstrated through their content.

      @snehathomas95 8 лет назад

      +Haon Nesretep I love both of their work! The videos I make are similar to how some RUclipsrs have been abruptly cutting their videos. But I'm just beginner lol. Technically! People are copying one another in our daily lives constantly, that's how we learn what we like and don't like. I personally would be flattered if someone copied my style of filming, however if they copied EVERY little content of the video to a T then I have a problem lol.

    • @benji4935
      @benji4935 8 лет назад +19

      +Haon Nesretep This isn't casey's style. Casey clearly often breaks the rule of thirds and a uses a much shallower depth of field with a wider lens. Jack's style is neater whereas casey's is extremely run&gun and rough, very handmade

    I really don't know how you can put in your fake channel the words of a true creative film maker like Casey. It only took me 1 video to know that you're copying Casey's entire work. Even the "a film for Ella" video that Casey made for Candace what's next? A fake kid that you'll claim as yours and you had it when you were 16? A fake movie about Adidas? wow dude you shouldn't even be a film maker

  • @GeloYellow
    @GeloYellow 9 лет назад

    This has opened my eyes and I agree with this completely. Last week, I graduated from college studying art and multimedia design. It's hard not to think about money especially in my family's current situation but the sole reason I came to art school is that I love art and I love creating beautiful things. Money SHOULDN'T be out of the equation but If it's the only thing that drives you to make art then yeah, you're really doing it wrong. Treat work like play and the money will soon come after.
