Storyline:
It's a sad day in Virginia City when Farmer Perkins shoots a store clerk down in cold blood right in front of his wife, then is allowed to walk after his trial. But if the Cartwright's have anything to do with it, he'll be rearrested, tried, and hung." Written by Michelle P. on IMDb.com
Reviews:
"Before Ray Teal became sheriff in Virginia City there was a lot of lawlessness and it had an organized protection racket headed by Robert Middleton one of the mine owners. In its early days there was a lot more emphasis on mining which was why Virginia City was founded.
In any event Nancy Dealle's husband resisited and one of Middleton's thugs, Gregory Walcott just shot him down. Both Dan Blocker and Michael Landon were witnesses and testify as such.
For the life of me I don't know why Walcott didn't ask for a jury trail. He's one hateful lout of a human being, but you would think Middleton could intimidate enough for at least a hung jury.
So in a bench trial he's convicted and he's scheduled to hang promptly. But Middleton and his gang grab Ben Cartwright and threaten to hang him if Walcott swings.
It's here where the Cartwright sons themselves have have a disagreement over what to do. Some fine acting and dialog between Adam, Hoss, and Little Joe.
A good story to wrap season one of Bonanza." Written by bkobanbing on IMDb.com
"This episode always gets me. A man walks into the general store, asks the man to pay him for protection, then shoots him in cold blood when he refuses. But what appears to be an open and shut case is anything but when you have a town of people who are too afraid to say anything. Even the widow has to be convinced to testify what she saw him do with his own eyes...
Farmer Perkins' life is pure evil. He's one of those people that has absolutely no value for human life - except for his own. Even when he's found guilty and sentenced to hang, he laughs about it knowing that his friend who seems to run the town will clear everything up. If I'm not mistaken, the actor who plays Sam Bryant, Robert Middleston, played a baddie on The Monroes. He's another of those character actors who plays a good baddie...
Of course, Adam's vainness is allowed to show on this episode. I was with Ben and Little Joe and think the writer's did an injustice by letting Adam prove himself correct.
Good episode." Written by mitchrmp on IMDb.com

You gotta stand up to bullies, or they will own your soul.
I had to stand up to bullies since I was in 1st grade. It was horrible.
12:27 The woman in this scene was Nancy Deale Greene- Lorne Greene's wife in real life, if anyone's interested.
Oh my...she literally has a huge mouth...😬
Thanks for that; I wasn't aware!
Yes, amazing information. Thank you She had to be an amazing woman.
I think this was before he married her and while he was married to his first wife.
Thanks. Very interesting to know. 🌹
Great episode of real life husband & wife acting together Lorne (Ben Cartwright) Greene & Nancy (Mrs Cameron) Deale played their roles great on bonanza episode DEATH AT DAWN 📺👀✔️
Thanks for watching! We also recommend this movie: ruclips.net/video/D3FHG6A9BB8/видео.html
On the part where Joe said what are you going to do go out to MY Father's grave then Adam said he's my father too. But Adam should've added and he was my father first
Was thinking the same when I watched that part. Little Joe was always the hotheaded one getting into trouble and Ben always let him off easier than the other two.
@@neshas7471 LOL yep Baby of the family they always get away with more
What Joe should have said what he should have said was what are you going to do go out OUR Father's grave not MY Father's grave
I have a half brother and I used to be in the habit of saying, "My Mom," when referring to *our* Mom in a discussion with him. Don't know exactly why. Maybe it's a half sibling thing sometimes. He called me out on it enough that I broke that habit.
@@neshas7471Little Joe always gets on my last nerve, hotheaded and spoiled rotten, always up in Adam 's face 😡
Joe should have told that man at least I know who my daddy is
🤣🤣🤣🤣
Adam looks exceptionally handsome in this episode for some reason. The hair, the facial features....magnificent.
Adam always looks and sounds magnificent 🥰🥰
Too bad I'm lovestruck by Adam to say anything.
Dear @@patriciaarvanitis3371
So was my mother a loooong, long time ago.
Best regards luck and health.
You know what other episode he looks like that? "The Flannelmouth Gun" .
😂
That farmer was a crazy, crazy guy. And so was Bryant
It's a trip how they dumb'd Hoss down as the show went on. These early episodes, he was more of a brain than both Adam and Joe.
Hoss was the only one that had a college degree!!!!
@@davidbennett6912 Are you saying Dan Blocker had the degree or in the show Hoss had the degree? In the show, Adam was the only one with a college degree.
In real life look it up he was a teacher before Hollywood!!!
@@davidbennett6912 That's interesting. Maybe I'll look it up and see if it says what subject or age group he taught. I bet the kids didn't act up in his class, his size could be intimidating to children.
I'd argue Hoss gets smarter as the show went on.
The most suspenseful one I've seen so far of all the series. Really good one.
There was another one I saw where they were setup for a bank robbery, and Little Joe had to escape and come back with the hired hands to save them. That one was just as suspenseful.
wow..that was a hardcore episode. Its one thing for someone to stand to one side but they actually made the decision to do the execution.
That little snarky laugh from the farmer!! Lol 😂!! He got his in the end!!! Good episode!!
"hey sheriff running for reelection?"🤣 by far his best line!
Hee hee hee hee hee...
"Perkins" = The Bonanza version of the Joker 😁
Great call
tôi rất thích xem series phim này tuy nhiên không có thuyết minh nên chả hiểu gì
Adam called his bluff. He knows a cowardly leech when he sees one. He wasn't absolutely sure, but he was sure enough.
It's very rare to see all three brothers gun someone down 46:30
Little Joe always knew how fight way out of trouble Cartwright men honest
Like ridding the town of a plague of rats.. 😐
Why did they not check Farmer Perkins’ gun to see if it had been fired? And what happened to the sheriff, did he die?
Robert Middleton-who often played a villain-is best remembered for his sympathetic performance as Gary Cooper’s non-Quaker friend in Friendly Persuasion.
Loved him in that.
@@beccahermann5948 He’s wonderful.
I loved him in all his roles.
He also played in "Love Me Tender" as the arresting officer of the Reno Brothers. Good actor.
Yup. Law and Order must prevail. I'm just wondering why they have to re-build the same exact scaffold for every single Bonanza episode that has a hanging in it. You would think they'd save money by keeping it around for future use, especially given what kind of a town Virginia City was back in the 1860s.
Weird episode they hold ben in large barn that Hoss and Joe don't search, plus guys coming and going all night, in reality in time exact revenge on other side one at a time Bryant's got time to wait and use Farmer as a martyr.
Farmer Perkins is a great hateable yet funny villain.
Farmer Perkins deserves his flowers 🌺
Very true. You can love him and hate him perfectly.
superb villain, reminds of the kinda characters James best would play
Robert Middleton was a great actor, a real badass in this episode. Its always a pleasure to see Gregory Walcott and Morgan Woodward ⭐👍
your mentioning names that dont stand out
i love how ben is completely stone faced everytime he is faced with death. no pleading no crying just acceptance. if it was me i'd be wailing. im afraid to die
We’d probably be less afraid living in that time. Nowadays life is safe and comfortable, but back then it was both much harder and more likely that you would die tragically.
@@joeydoherty368 yup. back then people have skin to match the harsh enviornment
@@AbrasiousProductions Right
No need to fear death if you believe on Jesus. :)
@@geoculus5606 I do believe in Jesus and I love him, I just don't wanna die so young, I've got aspirations and dreams to meet.
The laugh on that farmer Ted guy makes me mad!
17:35 I don't think they had plywood in 1870
Yes they did, but it shouldn't be in the show:
1) This is season 1, which take place in 1859 or 1860 (depending upon the mood of the writers)
2) Plywood was commercialized in the USA in the late 1860s
42:29, Ben gets up to the scaffold.
Thanks a lot for uploading and sharing this old series.
Best regards luck and health.
We need to go back in time because the world today is nothing but a prison hell planet
Great Episode, one of the best ! Farmer Perkins got the rope for his cold blooded killing of an innocent man ! His boss Sam got his reward too from one of his own men. Nothing like a good hanging to bring people together!
Lastima que está en inglés no más en América y los otros países nos gusta en Español
Hy vọng một ngày gần nhất được xem toàn bộ các tập phim có thuyết minh tiếng Việt
I heat outlawer tha ard proud of their own action and lough in court
One of the better shows. Thank You.
I love the end when Hoss and Joe both look at Adam like they were saying well you were right he didn't hang paw
The one thing I haven't commented on is the music, melodies, or the stimulation, it's peril, or antagonistic music, exciting, horse riding music, happy or celebration music, pay attention to it because it's actually unconscious and we don't pay attention, and empathize because of the music, or the tune, the melody. Another great episode. Thank you.
Some people tune into the music, some don't, but either way the music influences how we are reacting to the scene, true. Since these episodes are all available at one time, I find it interesting how the later seasons had such different music (which I don't care for).
Other aspects of this show that are pleasing are the landscapes and camera direction in the earlier seasons.
The wife saw what happened why are they ignoring that?.
They didn't ignore that. That's why the judge ordered the Farmer to hang the next morning 🌄 at dawn. But, Ben Cartwright was kidnapped.
Hoss Cartwright middle brother gun shot shop
Joe Cartwright young brother gun shot shop
Adam Cartwright old , Ben Cartwright jail bad people
A wonderful early episode! Thanks again, Grjngo!
Yes it was Joe. It was very suspenseful with a surprise and great ending. Justice ⚖ was served!
Perkins Laugh Reminds Me Of Steel's Laugh From Day Of The Dead🤣
Poor McNeill……stabbed in the back and heart by Sam Bryant!
"Little" oe shot the guy a few feet from him five times...now with one bullet left and no cartridges on their gun belts, are there bullets in his hat? What? I have to quit watching westerns ust because I like certain actors in them.
What I 😍 of this episode was the 3 to 5 minutes of David rose orchestral kettledrum roll I mean western classic
I got so excited I wet my pants
In real life Farmer wouldn't have waved the jury trial and the gang would have intimidated the jurors into acquitting.
Got sod all to do with Ben, his boys should also back off.
Bonanza is great, tied with Gunsmoke which isnt on youtube. Gotta watch that on tv.
Gunsmoke cannot compare to Bonanza. Don't cry over it.
Fun Fact: Ben is shown being nearly hung FOUR times in the series. Three times with his neck in the noose, the other time is a very close call.
"The Avenger,"
This episode
"The Gamble"
"Catch As Catch Can"
*hanged, not hung
Unless you were talking about his penis
One of my favorite episodes the farmer get's his !!
Glad you enjoy it!
Simon Van Gelder 😂
👍 No difference between then & 2020.
alot of good lessons in these shows!
Republicans, SMH
Shut up Marxist
27:05, Little Joe avoids being shot.
imagine being murdered in front of ur wife and she seeks no revenge. if someoen i loved told me that nonsense the love would die the moment the words rolled off there tongue
Interesting example of Game Theory before it was a thing...
Interesting
This episode is a very good example of present day New York City's no bail policy practiced every day for the likes of illegal aliens, antifa & blm
i can't believe morgan woodward is in this!!! i first saw him in star trek then dallas then petrocelli now here! i love this guy!
What a voice too!
perfect season finale
great ending
Another great episode ... wi tha message! Thanks Grjngo.
Best sheriff
This is the episode that made Adam my favorite.
46:31 Badass. Just badass.
ill never understand litle joe always so full of anger when in reality he has no reason to even feel anger since he has such a good life, it just makes no real sense, unleess there always trying to sell us that hes just always needing to prove hes a man
Because he lost his mother when he was 5 and was the only one of the three sons that got to meet their mother before they passed.
Because he lacks impulse control, is the youngest child, is a spoiled brat, son of a saloon girl (and possible courtesan) . . .
Plus at only 5'9" (Michael Landon wore 4 inch lifts), he is puny compared to his 3 other family members - Napoleon syndrome
The kid (McNeil, Paul Carr) did a great job portraying a psychopath! :)
Adam knew that Ben will understand its plans and make his part. And it worked!
What's the point of being Sheriff without authority, respect and support ? Shooting innocent people at random isn't
The townspeople remind me of 2020 Democratic election workers, save for being a shade or two lighter.
Wow, Bonanza didn't play in Season 1. That was intense.
That sheriff shouldve stayed on star trek
Star Trek was 6 years after this episode aired
