The way he describes our fragility as an entire PLANET is so profound… understanding that the difference between our continued existence and our ultimate demise is a 50 MILE BARRIER is one thing-but actually experiencing must really be as indescribable as he says. I hope that we truly take heed.

And by the time more of us realise just how much we need it we will have messed things up way beyond the possibility of any 'quick fix'. The Earth will survive but humans will be decimated, if not wiped out, along with many other species of plants and animals. The Earth will ultimately recover but it will take millions of years to get back to the rich diversity of life it had before humans evolved enough to start messing it all up.
Why is he "great"? He's actually a conceited, arrogant git who despises his fans and who did his best to upstage and/or bad mouth his fellow Star Trek actors that he was very jealous of (especially Leonard Nimoy who totally eclipsed him in popularity). The only reason his fat butt was on that shuttle is that he's rich enough to buy. Too many people confuse the actor with the role he plays, he's NOT "Capt. Kirk" (nothing even remotely "heroic" about this person).
@@Rifterneo Granted you have your point of view and it has some logic going for it, but also maybe as well as the points you make a decent man might at the age of 90 risk his life in order to highlight how fragile our planet and ecosphere really is. @Magi why would you share something like this on a positive vibe?
We really do take this beautiful planet of ours for granted and thats ashame.
Finally, after all of these decades, the Today show has something interesting. Good interview!

People forget Shatner IS a published author
A great man wouldn't have wasted that much money, or ripped such a huge hole in our atmosphere, for a sightseeing publicity stunt.
I can't pretend to understand his motives for doing that, but if the message he gives afterwards is a positive one pushing the rest of us poor schmucks to respect the planet and help ourselves, then maybe he did a good thing in the long run, even if it wasn't 100% beneficial to the planet as a whole. Nothing is ever black and white, we should wait until after the dust has settled and see if more good than evil was done, or vice versa, then judge the outcome. Just my opinion, if you disagree, then I won't judge, I'll just wait until the dust settles and then see what I think (and still respect your right to own your own opinion)
So happy he of all people got this experience. He truly has gone where few have gone before. What an experience! Congratulations Sir!
Most of these billionaire types launching into space I find boring and dull and self indulgent . But this is the first time to get someone worthy like William Shatner . Great words upon arrival and being the oldest person to do this and he is the original Captain Kirk . Now THAT is cool 😎
To a billionaire its just a thrill ride. Thrill junkies with all their lamborginis and yachts. Shatner is a mere millionaire, even his home looks like youre average home. Unlike the billionaires where its a palace.
That how it works look at the history of commercial Aviation so with space a billionaire today hopefully you tomorrow
Why is an actor worthy?
Me too!
You seriously think he went to space 🤣🤣🤣🙄😂😂😂
He is a very intelligent man. And he's words were so beautiful
"And that was death, and this was life"
Kirk remembered, when he was young, some crewmember said to him: "Space is disease and danger wrapped in darkness and silence"
Whoa!
Whoa...that's deep.
Truth!
@@retromousex5118 Star Trek was indeed "deep" yet great Creativity and Entertainment. That's why it has been with us for so long, in its many manifestations. The Original still brings great impact and inspiration given by the people involved in creating it, as Shatner displayed.
Bones😂
You Mr. William Shatner and my auntie who is 91 years young share the same zest and the pure joy for life. You both give me much joy . I surround myself with my beloved aunt . Thank you so much for sharing…
I can't believe William Shatner is 90. He is just amazing. I love how he said "I don't want to throw Skittles, I want to look out the window!" Me too, Mr. Shatner, me too! Well done. Yes, our world is so fragile and does need to be taken care of. Live Long and Prosper Mr Shatner!
Can't believe you buying this BS from a clown
I’m throwing trash everywhere everyday from now on🧿
@@dudarewaleriy4225 And what BS would that be? I missed the clown did he come in in a car or what?
His thought and words after exiting the craft yesterday were, for me at least, profound, and touching. I have a new found respect for Mr. Shatner.
Good for Mr. Shatner!! I got emotional when he stepped out of the capsule and struggled to find words that could possibly describe what he had just experienced. You could just tell how overwhelmed he was. Congrats to him at 90!!
We need more artists like Bill on space. Such a great perspective on life and earth that no scientist can ever capture
A HUMBLE AND NOBLE RESPONSE, CAPTAIN!!
Yes. I keep posting about his humility in the experience. A gift to us all.
@@ritagailburleson3819 Oh ride it up and down like the disco.
I'm so thrilled he managed to do that he is just beaming,( No pun intended) that also took a lot of guts to do that, respect Sir!
he does have a big gut too 🤣
I physically cannot wrap my head around the fact that he is 90
His 90 year old body would have been CRUSHED by that impact, IF IT WERE REAL! Watch how huge the dust cloud is!! Use your head people! Fake as f**k!
The only thing fake is you buddy
@@kidwave1 --- dumb little internet F**k. The cloud of dust was from the retro-rockets which fire just before landing and soften the bump, they have been used since Vostok in 1961 but that is WAY beyond your intelligence............
@@thewildblueyonder5414 That is even more hilarious! ahahaha
We love you William Shatner. You are part of American history. Space the final frontier. God Bless you Mr. Shatner.
