It was so true what Shane said about the way we Irish were treated when I first went to London I was 15 and the way alot of young Irish men used to stand in the sidewalk in cricklwood broad way to get work sometimes they might be 40 people standing there and sometimes English workers passing in there vans would shout anti Irish slogans at us ya one day we got a start and the job was in Soho and I still remember the sign saying no blacks no Irish and no dogs and also went to another job in Chelsea and we went into a pub at dinner time went to call a couple of pints and was told no working cloths when he heard my accent so I said to him they are other people in working cloths drinking just over there who were on the same job as we were just as dirty as us he just said no Irish in here that was my first time seen what racist is it went on a lot back then I no the IRA done alot if damage and killings back then but that was one percent of Irish yet we all were painted with the one brush I haven't been in London for years now I wonder if it has changed
Nobody has actually found an example of these signs you mention. Not even a photograph of one. There was a mockup someone made of what one may have looked like made for some exhibition or another, about what they may have looked like. That's as close as we can get.

"I was convincing the Russian ambassador of the worthlessness of the American imperialism." Shane McGowan @7:38
am I in the minority here in thinking Jack was a decent interviewer? He clearly respects Shane and was encouraging him to have higher esteem of himself.
IainDowieMask well if that is what you seen. OPEN YOUR FKN EYES.
are you really that stupid?
I think the interviewer is a test😂
A twat not test
God bless you Shane, you saw straight through the qunt interviewer
They don't make them like shane no more.....and if they do ....they sure don't let them on TV any more...forget the life style he lived... the guy wrote some of the best songs ever
Shane is awesome
Can you imagine Shane n Oliver Reed hanging out in a Pub in Ireland drinking n getting drunk together. RIP Shane
@@jasonallen6081thank you for correcting this lie.
I moved to Cricklewood in 85 aged 19 and queued up with 50 other older lads to be picked up by vans and taken to building sites to do the sh!t jobs for little money.
The ones doing the exploiting, who ran the sites were always overweight Irish guys, who sometimes would refuse to pay you, tell you to F off.
I experienced absolutely NO racism.
However, in Ireland the country that elbowed me out, but neither education or money, I was a nobody and couldn't get work anywhere, cos I came from wrong side of town and didn't know anyone with power.
Good interview thanks! Good interviewer for once!!!
Love that man 🙏🏽
Am i mistaken or is there a terrible sadness in his eyes.
Great interview!
well who is this guy to interview a legend like Shane?
makin a fool of himself i think!
Stupid questions.. pathetic... Shane was a legend..RIP.
Brilliant, re Why he ate the Beach Boys album. very accurate
Love him
Nothing wrong with being friends of your enemy.
Shane looks so gentle
he looks forever drunk
He looks clouded, permanently.
The guy wears his humanity on his sleeve..
"Never argue with an imbicile."
Shane McGowan was too smart for the porridge wog.
This is Shane MacGowan
Me and my mate were at a hotel bar in Glasgow. The comedian Jack Dochert was there with his cronies. My mate shouted over "Hi Jack" jack was like " oh hi"
My mate was a bit pissed. He kept shouting over to him, by now jack was ignoring him. Then jack and his team were leaving the bar and as he passed us my pal said " hey Jack not seen you on TV for a while? Jack docherty shouted back" I have a new show and will be back on tv next month but need to go now"
My mate shouted back.. " Jack?"
" yes what is it?"
" any chance you could be funny in this one?" 😂😂😂
@@coolnamebro yep he did and jack docherty went back to not being funny
Just like Jack 😂😂
Drink and drugs destroy but he was a very astute person
He doesn't really promote himself always plays it down but still v. aware of his talent and capabilities
‘These’ people will NEVER!! Understand a Chemical wonderSmith…🥳🥳
“A diamond, in a see of Carbon” 🙏🙏🕊️🕊️
They don’t get it. RIP Shane
They’re embarrassing themselves, don’t have a clue.
His parents had aspirations for him. He went to the same Prep School as Dan Stevens. His parents had aspirations for him. He’s self taught and incredibly well read.
Play this at 1.5x
So frustrating when his answers are cut off. I really wanted to hear him continue the list of musicians he listened to.
He liked John McCormack, other famous opera singers and soul music. But he mainly listened to Irish music of various genre. Oh, he also liked Led Zeppelin.
🕊🌹🕊Shane🕊🌹🕊
i,d have said, "and, how much have you got jack?", but then, shanes a gent
Shane-O!!!!!!!!!!!!!
He's got a little bit of blood level in his alcohol. Wow...I'm speechless. Not sad, because it was his choice, not surprised too many like him out there like Ozzy, and Keith richards, not a tragedy because he's doing what he wants, just a bit strange someone chooses to live like this...he could have so much more. He doesn't look too happy. It's like he IS the drugs. An amazing train wreck.
Never mind, Shane is dead. Ozzy and Keith outlived Shane and still preform. Shane died and even his wife has trouble mourning him. How can anyone feel sad for a person who simply didn't care enough about his own life?
He is who he is man.
Shane was a writer, poet, artist, singer, musician. Ozzy is a singer.
@@123YMR both drug addicts. Ozzy wrote, composed, directed and staged all his performances. IDK what you're point is, but an addict is an addict regardless of what they do. Neither has more talent than the other when they are both high af.
@@heidithomas5455 Ozzie didn't write music or play an instrument.
"All 4 members of the classic Sabbath lineup shared songwriting credit equally, but it’s a badly kept secret that Tony Iommi wrote almost all the music and Terry Butler wrote almost all the lyrics."
I agree Ozzie was a class performer, he put on a good show. Shane MacGowan was a troubled individual to begin with and suffered with anxiety.
@@heidithomas5455 Shane MacGowan was a literary genius, he won a prestigious literary scholarship to Westminster school at age 11.
15 tabs of acid a day !! Fuck me I've had a few in my time but that would be mind bending . If you hammer drugs long enough your mind gets hazy and you can't get things out . You can see shane here is ruined by them , I'm still fighting my shit but I can see how he's struggling to say what he means in a plausible way !
Don`t matter, he wrote great songs, and he sings like an alligator.
Did he ever get a decent interviewer?
look for the henry rollins interview, is the only one that shane got the respect he really deserves
Love ya Shane
Did he say "I tried to convince the Russians and bastards of the worthlessness of American imperialism"? :D Anyway I love how he's looking at the totally stunned interviewer after that like 'you didn't expect that did you'
He doesn't say 'bastards' he says 'Ambassador'
LEGENDDDD
Classic
❤️
Those talentless audience members, giggling like adolescents, and what the Hell has it got to do with Doherty how much cash Shane Macgowan has? He's probably had enough diazepam etc to knock out the whole audience.
Where are you shane? Between 6th and 7th Saturn ring
So you're telling me Flock of seagulls are shit???
@MrDasolja
what country is he on tv? Not Scotland as far as I know.
You the man
What song them lyrics from ? I don’t recognise them ?
what a tragedy terribly gifted man
