Mr H. had a certain way of depicting inanimate objects coming to life that set your hair on end. The Kali statue here is like a miniature version of Talos from Jason and the Argonauts (in a couple of different senses) but still effective; and I don't think I fully appreciated the image of the figurehead physically ripping itself away from the timber it was carved into! Also, a moment to appreciate Tom Baker. Look at the scene where he interacts with his second homonculous. Brilliant actor. 😄
While not as good as the first film, this film is still incredibly solid. My only problem with the stop motion creatures is that I think that the Kali (the best opponent in the film in my opinion) would’ve been a better final enemy than the centaur. Still a classic, and a far better sequel than Sinbad and the Eye of the Tiger.
I guess it is a bit of cultural appropriation. Or it could also be one man inspired by another culture than his own to do great things. The film was a coproduction between United Kingdom and the United States ans shot in Spain. :)
This movie has some of the best stop motion animation ever.
The Battle with Kali is my favorite scene!

The Centaur's scream reminds me Frankenstein's Monster's scream

The only thing I don’t like about this film is how they kill Griff, not in a fair fight.
